Israel charges teen hacker over JCC bomb threats, blackmailing US state senator

An Israeli court on Monday indicted a dual national teenager for a series of bomb threats against 100 Jewish institutions in the United States and other countries out of a total of 2,000 public and private organizations worldwide. The teen is also charged with trying to blackmail Republican state senator Ernesto Lopez from Delaware who spoke out against the bomb threats, even going so far as sending illegal drugs to his house in order get him in trouble with the law. According to an Israeli justice ministry statement, the defendant’s goals were to spread widespread panic by dispatching emergency service providers to the scene, forcing evacuations and searches and creating a media frenzy.
