In response to deadly border attack in which Israeli teen was killed, IAF strikes nine Syrian military targets, reportedly causing casualties and damage • Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon: Assad regime responsible for what takes place in areas it controls.
Israeli Air Force planes struck nine military targets inside Syria late Sunday night, in response to a cross-border attack in the Golan Heights earlier in the day in which an Israeli teenager was killed.
The Israel Defense Forces said “direct hits were confirmed” on the targets, which included a Syrian regional command center and unspecified “launching positions.” Syrian and Lebanese media outlets reported the IAF carried out at least three sorties against Syrian military positions in the Golan border region, causing casualties among Syrian soldiers and heavy damage to the targeted sites.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ten people were killed in the bombings. The organization, based in London, maintains strong ties with the Syrian regime.
On Monday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said, “We view the regime of [Syrian President] Bashar Assad and the Syrian military as responsible for what is done in the territory under their control, and we will continue to respond harshly and strongly to any provocation and attack on our sovereignty.”
