Julius Rosenwald was one of America’s greatest philanthropists and visionaries, yet many people, even here in Chicago, have never heard of him — at least in part because that’s the way he wanted it. Jewish filmmaker Aviva Kempner hopes that will change as her new documentary, “Rosenwald,”opens today at Landmark Century Centre Cinema in Chicago and Landmark Renaissance Place Cinema in Highland Park. Last night, JUF co-sponsored a special screening of the film at the Museum of Science & Industry (which almost was named the Rosenwald Industrial Museum because of his central role in creating it). The screening was followed by a panel discussion that included JUF President Steven B. Nasatir, who was interviewed in the film. READ MORE
