CARE: Citizens Against the 112 Referendum

The District 112 School Board has stated time and again in the last few months that there are no other options for reconfiguration–except for their plan to borrow $198 million to build a single big box middle school. This astronomical cost to our community has been reinforced by the threat of premature school closures–all to scare the community into voting yes. However, this is a failure of leadership of our school board, not a failure of options. CARE has obtained a memo from the architectural firm Nagle-Hartray, dated December 29, 2014, titled “Alternate Configuration Option.” This memo illustrates that the district was presented with less costly, less radical options for reconfiguration a little over a year ago and chose not to share it with the public. This memo, written by Nagle-Hartray architect Don McKay, includes details of a two middle school plan with a “scalable” approach that would “permit consideration of a much less expensive project.” READ MORE
