Netherlands Becomes Second Country to Suspend UNRWA Funding Over Corruption Allegations Against Palestinian Refugee Agency

The allegations of systematic corruption at the highest levels of UNRWA — the United Nations body dedicated solely to Palestinian refugees and their descendants — proved too much for a second donor nation on Wednesday, as the The Netherlands announced that it was freezing its contributions to the agency…The Dutch decision came hours after Switzerland announced that it was freezing its contributions to UNRWA, based on its concerns about the report into the agency’s operations assembled by the UN’s Office of Internal Oversight Services. The 10-page document cited “credible and corroborated reports” that members of an “inner circle” at UNRWA had engaged in “abuses of authority for personal gain, to suppress legitimate dissent and to otherwise achieve their personal objectives.” READ MORE
