Trump appoints former Middle East negotiator as hostage affairs envoy

President-elect Trump on Wednesday announced his selection of Adam Boehler to serve as special presidential envoy for hostage affairs in his second term. While the position holds the rank of an ambassador, it does not require Senate confirmation. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, credited Boehler as a lead negotiator on the Abraham Accords team, the 2020 agreement that established diplomatic relations between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates…Boehler took part in negotiations with the Taliban, with the first Trump administration inking a deal with the designated terrorist group that halted all attacks against U.S. troops in Afghanistan in exchange for a commitment to exit the country.
