Sen. Mark Kirk: Why I won’t let Iran get nuclear weapons

As co-author of an Iran sanctions law that passed the Senate in a 100-to-0 vote in 2011, I’ve worked tirelessly to sustain the bipartisan consensus to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Our children must never witness an Iran-initiated nuclear war. But if President Obama doesn’t do his part to sustain this bipartisan consensus, I fear Iran will go nuclear. A recent open letter by Republican senators sent to Iran underscores that the president isn’t doing his part to bring along Congress, a co-equal branch of government. Congress believes Iran’s theocratic dictatorship already poses a clear and present danger.
