LETTER TO AMERICAN AIRLINES CEO
August 24, 2015
Dear Mr. Parker: As a longtime and frequent flyer on American and US Airways, I was pleased when you merged. As a Philadelphia resident it is hard to avoid US Airways, and being able to combine routes and mileage programs seemed like a plus. The service has been shaky, but it was a massive undertaking and you deserved some slack. And combined routes meant we could fly almost anywhere. No more. I learned this week that you were shutting down the Philadelphia to Tel Aviv route, ostensibly because of profitability. I have flown that route numerous times. The flights are usually full, and with fuel prices falling it is hard to say your costs have gone up. To the contrary, I understand passenger volume is up. I can only presume that you are responding to the forces of BDS…and attempting to placate your Oneworld partners. This should be unacceptable for an airline whose roots originate as “American” and “US”, and whose routes blanket our nation. Such economic boycotts are unacceptable. I urge you to review what seems like a misguided and even hateful policy. Thank you for your reconsideration.
