Responding to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, did the Academy get it right?

…To the average citizen who probably cares not a whit as to which pampered and acclaimed celebrity gets an Oscar, the question holds no interest. It is a question which interests only those in the industry, and apparently there are many who believe some sort of affirmative action program, which is outlawed in California for public institutions, is necessary to recognize and reward those in the film industry whose work cannot compete in a meritocracy and needs a special category where competition is more limited. Perhaps they have in mind some categories like: Best Film with Black Actors; Best Hispanic Actor; Best Director of Color; Best Film Score by an Asian-American, or some such. READ MORE
