In an attempt to pull the focus of international attention from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria back to their bête noire, anti-Israel campaigners have attempted a rebrand, and have floated the hashtag #JSIL, short for the ‘Jewish State of Israel in the Levant’ in a crude allusion to the more familiar acronym ISIL.
The comparison has obviously caused some outrage. News outlet JNS.org ran a scathing editorial, and blasted the JSIL hashtag and it’s implicit comparison to ISIS: “Yes, you read that correctly. There are people out there who are seriously equating a gang of rapists, decapitators, slave traders, and genocidal killers with a democratic state that takes the trouble, whenever it is dragged into an armed conflict, of informing civilians on the other side when and where it will be launching an attack so that they can get themselves to safety”.
Campaign leaders Max Blumenthal and Rania Khalek, both criticized variously for their anti-semitic and anti-Israel comments and publications launched the rebrand on Sunday, and amid citations of write-ups by the Times of Israel and have already congratulated themselves on a job well done, calling it a ‘wild success’……
