AP buries the lede as if they’ve never heard of a ‘hudna’: “Al-Hayya did not say whether his apparent embrace of a two-state solution would amount to an end to the Palestinian conflict with Israel or an interim step toward the group’s stated goal of destroying Israel”

Hamas official says group would lay down its arms if an independent Palestinian state is established
Abby Sewell
April 25, 2024

A top Hamas political official told The Associated Press the Islamic militant group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders. The comments by Khalil al-Hayya in an interview Wednesday came amid a stalemate in months of talks for a cease-fire in Gaza. The suggestion that Hamas would disarm appeared to be a significant concession by the militant group officially committed to Israel’s destruction. But it’s unlikely Israel would consider such a scenario. It has vowed to crush Hamas following the deadly Oct. 7 attacks that triggered the war , and its current leadership is adamantly opposed to the creation of a Palestinian state on lands Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war. EU Parliament votes in favour of resolution against Iran
April 25, 2024

In an unprecedented vote, the European Parliament passed a resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday. The resolution condemned Iran for its attack on Israel and reinforced the European commitment to the security of the State of Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz praised the European Parliament for its vote in favor of a resolution. It follows last Monday’s decision by the European Union to sanction Iran in order to curtail missile and drone production…The EU calls to put in place the following measures: to include the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in the list of terrorist organizations; to expand sanctions on Iran, including on the regime’s oil and banking; to acknowledge Iran’s non-compliance with the nuclear agreement…READ MORE

REUTERS US, 17 other countries urge Hamas to release hostages, end Gaza crisis The United States and 17 other countries on Thursday issued an appeal for Hamas to release all of its hostages as a pathway to end the crisis in Gaza, but Hamas vowed not to relent to international pressure. “We call for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza now for over 200 days,” a statement by the countries said, in what a senior U.S. official called an extraordinary display of unanimity. The 18 countries all have citizens held by Hamas six months after the Palestinian militant group launched its Oct. 7 assault on southern Israel and killed 1,200 people.

Khamenei’s war aims: Iranian ruler intends to establish an empire, exterminate Israelis
Clifford D. May
April 23, 2024

I’m sure you’ve heard commentators describe the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel as “rivals” engaged in a “tit-for-tat” conflict. That misinterprets reality. Ali Khamenei, Iran’s “supreme leader” since 1989, seeks to establish a new Middle Eastern empire. Israelis, by contrast, only want to survive as an independent nation within a slice of their ancient Jewish homeland. They would like nothing better than to enjoy amicable relations with Iranians, as they did prior to Iran’s Islamic Revolution of 1979. I should add: Substantial evidence suggests that most Iranians do not hate Israelis. Nor would most Iranians suffer under the jackboot of an antisemitic, misogynist, coercively religious ruling class if they had a choice. As for the fate Mr. Khamenei envisions for Israelis, we saw a preview on Oct. 7. Genocide is what he indisputably intends. READ MORE

Mandel: “The campus-organized protests are spreading and so is the violence they incite”

…“From the river to the sea, Palestine is Arab” establishes as its baseline a Nazi-like racial hierarchy. What that means is that regardless of political or governmental structures and constitutions, that racial hierarchy is baked into society: Jews would be treated this way even if they no longer had a state, just as they were treated this way in the 20th century before Israeli sovereignty was established. Put simply, ethnic cleansing of the Jews would be the goal in a one-state solution as well. Because this racial hierarchy is fundamental to its proponents’ worldview, opposition to coexistence with Jews is global. READ MORE

Israel planned bigger attack on Iran, but scaled it back to avoid war

Israelis tell NYT: Original plan was major strike on military targets near Tehran, beyond
April 22, 2024

Israel’s original retaliatory plan against Iran included a much wider counterstrike on military targets, including near Tehran, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing three Israeli officials. “Such a broad and damaging attack would have been far harder for Iran to overlook, increasing the chances of a forceful Iranian counterattack,” the paper said. As has been widely reported, Israel shelved plans for an immediate response to Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on April 13-14 when it became clear that Israel had thwarted most of the Iranian missiles and drones with the help of a US-led coalition, and after a phone call that night between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They Were Assaulted on Campus for Being Jews

For a second, imagine that black students at Columbia were taunted: Go back to Africa. Or imagine that a gay student was surrounded by homophobic protesters and hit with a stick at Yale University. Or imagine if a campus imam told Muslim students that they ought to head home for Ramadan because campus public safety could not guarantee their security. There would be relentless fury from our media and condemnation from our politicians. Just remember the righteous—and rightful—outrage over the white supremacist “Unite the Right” march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, where neo-Nazis chanted “The Jews will not replace us.” READ MORE

GATESTONE Many Culprits Behind Rise of Antisemitism, Including the Media There is the influence of DEI which has too often placed Jews at the top of a racial hierarchy, ignoring the fact that Jews have always been, and remain, dramatically more discriminated against than any other group, including those groups at the supposed bottom of the DEI hierarchy of intersectionality: Indigenous, Blacks, Muslims and the LGBTQIA+.

CANARY MISSION Columbia University’s Antisemitic Ecosystem Columbia University has created an “ecosystem” of antisemitism for many years. A key component contributing to this toxic atmosphere are the professors hired by the university. Post-Oct. 7 and in violation of university policy, dozens of faculty members have led the charge against Israel, calling for the destruction of the only Jewish state in the world and slandering Israel’s actions against the genocidal terror group Hamas. Sixty-eight professors at Columbia are currently profiled on Canary Mission for their antisemitism.

Antisemitic incidents in Illinois, which included harassment, vandalism and assault, nearly doubled last year amid tensions over the war between Israel and Hamas, according to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League. According to the new data released Tuesday, the ADL — a national nonprofit that tracks antisemitism and white supremacy across the country — said 8,873 antisemitic incidents were reported in the United States in 2023. The number marks a 140 percent increase from the 3,698 incidents recorded in 2022 and is the highest number on record since the ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979. READ MORE

…A century ago, the Jews of Germany were the most assimilated in Europe. They had prospered under the Kaiser, and seemed set to do even better in the Weimar Republic. They were industrialists, intellectuals, scientists, artists… A quarter of the thousand richest men in Prussia were Jews. As we heard on a pertinent Tale for Our Time, if you were an ambitious Jew born in the Bukovina or points east, you dreamed of Berlin and Vienna. And then…What Germany was to the Jews of a century ago, America is today. New York is the world’s most Jewish city, and Brooklyn is famously the most Jewish place on earth, with more Jews than either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. As in Germany, Jews are the businessmen, brain surgeons, physicists, film producers. I take it as read that the day is fast-approaching when London, Paris, Toronto, Copenhagen will be Jew-free. But New York? READ MORE

“Biden administration promotes Hamas propaganda by smearing Israel as a human rights abuser”

State Department Stabs Israel in the Back, Twists the Knife

April 24, 2024

On Tuesday, the State Department published its 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. What should have been a non-political document completed the betrayal of Israel that the Biden administration began on March 25, when it refrained from having the U.S. veto a UN resolution calling for a Gaza ceasefire, the impact of which would enable the leadership of Hamas to survive and launch more attacks on Jews and Jewish babies…Not only does the report include Israel among the most barbaric human rights abusers – China, Putin’s Russia, the Taliban, and Iran, the would-be exterminators of the Jewish state — but “Israel was mentioned before the Biden administration’s State Department addressed ‘ongoing and brutal human rights abuses in Iran’ or ‘the Taliban’s systemic mistreatment of and discrimination against Afghanistan’s women and girls.’” READ MORE

Iranian state media: Alleged Israel strike in Isfahan carried out by drones, not missiles

Alleged Israeli strikes reported in Iran

An Israeli missile strike targeted a site in Iran early Friday morning, according to ABC News. The report came shortly after local sources reported explosions in Isfahan in central Iran, in the As-Suwayda Governorate of southern Syria, and in the Baghdad area and Babil Governorate of Iraq early Friday morning. Videos from Isfahan appeared to show Iranian air defenses activated in the skies over the area. The Iranian semi-official Fars News Agency reported that an explosion was heard in Qahjavarestan, east of Isfahan and near the Isfahan International Airport. Fars stressed that the cause of the explosion was unknown as of yet. READ MORE

THE JC US poised to back Rafah operation in exchange for Israel dropping major Iran strike The United States has agreed to back an Israeli operation in Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah in exchange for Israel forgoing a major strike on Iran, unnamed Egyptian officials have told the Qatari Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news outlet. The development comes after Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had backtracked on a pre-approved military response to Iran’s massive drone and missile attack due to pressure by Joe Biden. The US president reportedly told Netanyahu during a phone call on Saturday that Washington would not participate in nor support an Israeli retaliatory attack.
