US Suspends Funding for UN Palestinian Refugee Agency Over Employees Participation in Hamas Pogrom

January 26, 2024

The US announced on Friday that it was temporarily suspending funding for UNRWA, the UN agency dedicated to Palestinian refugees and their descendants, citing concerns about the participation of several of its employees in the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas pogrom in southern Israel. “The United States is extremely troubled by the allegations that twelve UNRWA employees may have been involved in the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel,” US State Department Matthew Miller said in a statement. “The Department of State has temporarily paused additional funding for UNRWA while we review these allegations and the steps the United Nations is taking to address them.” The US announcement came after UNRWA confirmed that it was launching an investigation into the employees suspected of involvement in the pogrom. UN WATCH Evidence Shows Widespread Support for October 7th Terrorists Among UNRWA Teachers in Gaza UN Watch continues to find abhorrent antisemitism and support for jihadi terrorism by UNRWA staff on social media. This report details how UNRWA teachers in a 3,000-member UNRWA staff Telegram group cheered and celebrated Hamas’s October 7th massacre while at the same time asking when their UNRWA salaries will be paid.

GATESTONE Bassam Tawil: Time to End UNRWA’s Jihad against Israel The UN, which has long ignored or denied the involvement of its employees in anti-Israeli terrorism and incitement, is now feigning shock and horror by the participation of some of its employees in the Hamas atrocities… The UN does not need to launch an investigation “to establish the truth” about the involvement of its employees in terrorism and incitement against Israel…For years, there has been ample evidence regarding the close connection between UNRWA and Hamas, the Palestinian terror group that seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER GOP demands Biden permanently cut off UNRWA after staffers allegedly joined Hamas in Oct. 7 Israel attack The Trump administration decided in 2018 to cease funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, a move the Biden administration reversed in 2021 but paused on Friday after UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini announced the termination of the accused staffers.

American taxpayers have been subsidizing educators who call for the murder of Jews. Suspending these funds isn’t enough. UNRWA must be abolished for good.

Many who watched the October 7 massacre likely wondered how a man’s mind can become so warped that he not only commits heinous acts of murder, rape, and mutilation, but proudly films this carnage for the world to see. It is a complicated question. But one of the primary answers is found in the schools that mold the minds of young people in their formative years. In Gaza, the organization that does much of the molding is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA. That organization pays the salaries of teachers who call for the murder of Jews. READ MORE

Qatar, its Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said last week, was “appalled” at words of criticism Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leveled against it. That’s right, appalled. Qatar, a state that has provided diplomatic, media, and financial support to Hamas – a barbaric terrorist organization that murders and mutilates the bodies of men, rapes, and kidnaps women, and burns to death entire families – is appalled.…For years the Qataris perfected the art of appearing civilized, modern, and forward-looking while backing the most vile, vicious, antisemitic terrorist organization on the planet. It is time to consider an organized, diplomatic campaign to expose the charade. READ MORE

…Taking this tactic of martyring their fellow Arabs to a new level, Hamas turned Gaza into suicide central. Above ground, residents were allowed to conduct a quasi-normal life, knowing that, below ground, every school, every hospital, and many private homes were booby-trapped for the Israelis whom their leaders would lure into their cities. The IDF continues to uncover a tremendous amount of infrastructure built over years, confirming Hamas’ intention of invading and killing Israelis en masse. In the words of one of its soldiers “[It] is clear they expected us to arrive and laid plans to exact a cost in the form of IDF casualties.” The attack of Oct. 7 had to be monstrous enough to provoke Israel into full-scale war in the hope of rescuing the hostages and destroying the terrorists—a plan that would also ensure the collateral death of as many Gazans as possible to attract Western sympathy. J Street withdraws endorsement of Jamaal Bowman for ‘crossing the line’ on Israel-Hamas war

January 26, 2024

J Street, the self-described pro-Israel, pro-peace lobby, has rescinded its endorsement of New York Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman for “singling out” Israel for blame in the war in Gaza and accusing it of genocide. The group removed his name on Friday from a list of 122 members of Congress it endorsed in the 2024 election cycle. Bowman, 47, first elected in 2018, is facing a tough primary battle against George Latimer, Westchester County’s popular executive, who is backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. NEW YORK POST Jewish GOP, independent voters urged to register as Democrats to sway primary for ‘Squad’ member Bowman’s seat A new group is pushing independent voters and Jewish Republicans to switch registration to the Democratic Party in an effort to tip the scales in a hotly contested party primary in one New York congressional district. Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a member of the liberal House “Squad” that also includes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has been under fire for being critical of Israel while his opponent George Latimer has campaigned as a staunch supporter of the Jewish state.

JEWISH INSIDER George Latimer announces huge fundraising haul in campaign against Rep. Bowman Despite the warning, Latimer is expected to draw significant support from leading pro-Israel groups such as AIPAC, whose political action committee officially backed his campaign last week — in its first endorsement of a non-incumbent this election cycle.

Sa’ar says he’ll start work on filing genocide case against Iran at International Court of Justice

Cabinet minister Gideon Sa’ar says he will begin working on having Israel file a case against Iran in the International Court of Justice on genocide charges, pointing out that Iranian leaders have called for Israel’s destruction and that Iran gives strong backing to Hamas and other Gaza terror groups that carried out the October 7 atrocities. Numerous experts in international law have said that the massacres and other crimes carried out by Hamas on October 7 likely constitute a genocidal act since they appear to have been aimed at destroying “in whole or in part” a national group, in this case Israelis. “There are public statements by senior Iranian officials in favor of destroying Israel,” Sa’ar tells the Kan public broadcaster. …Fetterman, who is not Jewish, has been criticized by member of his own party over staunch support of Israel to defend itself from Hamas terrorists in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks. Fetterman has been a vocal supporter of Israel placing emphasis on the tragedy suffered by innocent Israelis. A deep intra-party rift has broken out among Democrats as the death toll in Gaza continues to rise and even President Biden has accused Israel of an ‘indiscriminate bombing campaign.’ Fetterman, meanwhile, plastered photos of Israeli hostages to the wall outside his office and draped himself in an Israeli flag in photos. Questions like that only reveal the vast gap between the pro-Hamas mob and everyone else. The pro-Hamas protests, allegedly in pursuit of a ceasefire, but in reality celebrating Hamas and now Houthi terrorism, have picked random fights with Starbucks, Christmas tree lightings and Alec Baldwin, to name a few.
