Adam Boehler sidelined from Hamas negotiations after media blitz, sources say

Republicans on Capitol Hill are privately frustrated by Adam Boehler, President Donald Trump’s special envoy for hostage affairs, over his behavior during a media blitz last weekend about his direct negotiations with Hamas and subsequent handling of the fallout. GOP sources told Jewish Insider the administration has pulled him off of the Hamas hostage file and said that he needs to be further sidelined. Boehler’s appearances on “Fox News Sunday,” CNN’s “State of the Union” and several Israeli channels made headlines over his responses to questions about his direct engagements with Hamas on behalf of the U.S.; he told CNN’s Jake Tapper that Israel’s resistance to direct talks with the terror group stemmed from the possibility that he would meet Hamas officials and think “they don’t have horns growing out of their head … They’re actually pretty nice guys.” READ MORE

GATESTONE Daniel Greenfield: U.S. Hostage ‘Negotiator’ Says Hamas Wants Peace, Offers ’15-Year Truce’, U.S. Rebuilding of Gaza Now White House Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs, Adam Boehler, who appeared to be a credible figure, decided to directly meet up with Hamas and came out with exactly the sort of thing John Kerry or Jimmy Carter would have come away with…This proposed deal leaves Hamas in Gaza, and has the U.S. rebuild Gaza for 10-15 years. In short, it’s the worst deal imaginable for America and for Israel.

“The Barnard administration, instead of disciplining students who break the rules and the law, negotiated with them”

Cut Federal Funding to Barnard
Alan Dershowitz
March 7, 2025

President Donald Trump has pledged to cut federal funding to schools that do not protect Jewish students from anti-semitic harassment and violence. The best place to begin this process is Barnard College in New York City. Cutting funding to major research universities threatens cutbacks on grants for medical and other important scientific research. Barnard College, on the other hand, is not a university. It does not have a medical school. Its faculty does little or no research that would affect Americans on a day-to-day basis. Cutting off federal aid to Barnard would have few negative impacts on issues that legitimately concern Americans, especially if it focuses on discriminatory actions and does not interfere with protected free speech. ALGEMEINER Cornell University Pursuing Disciplinary Charges Against Anti-Zionist Hecklers of Pro-Peace Event Cornell University has initiated disciplinary proceedings against over a dozen anti-Zionist students, staff, and non-Cornell-affiliated individuals who disrupted a “Pathways to Peace” campus event that was held to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians on March 10.

FREE BEACON Trump Admin Slashes $400 Million In Federal Funding to Columbia, Citing Ivy League School’s ‘Inaction’ in the Face of Anti-Semitism The Trump administration’s multi-agency task force to combat anti-Semitism announced the immediate cancellation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University over its failure to curb campus anti-Semitism in the aftermath of Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel. The departments of Justice, Health and Human Services, and Education, along with the General Services Administration, announced the move Friday. Two days earlier, Columbia student radicals stormed a Barnard College campus building—the second time in a week. Within hours of the funding cuts, Columbia suspended its four students who had been arrested while clashing with police during Wednesday’s incident.

“Israel is not a cause. It’s a country. It exists so that Jews — real, breathing, imperfect, wonderful Jews — have unapologetic control of our own destiny”

FUTURE OF JEWISH
Israelis don’t care what you think about Zionism
Joshua Hoffman
March 9, 2025

The idea that American Jews, nearly all of whom have never lived in Israel, can define and redefine Zionism is laughable to say the least. It’s cute, in a way. College students with Che Guevara t-shirts, think tank interns who just discovered the word sababa, and even some clueless “progressive Jews” all seem to think that the fate of the Jewish state hinges on how they feel about it. As if Israel is a reality show waiting for audience approval. None of this is surprising, of course. Americans in general have grossly overvalued their opinions and perspectives on the world stage, known as “American exceptionalism.” Unsurprisingly, many American Jews have acquired this mentality. There is also the fact that American Jews, on the whole, are a very successful minority in the most impactful country in our post-World War II world. We should also note that parts of American culture give people an unfounded sense of entitlement, especially those who come from homes with money and means. READ MORE

Heritage Foundation: “From 2029 to 2047, the United States should transition its military financing of arms procurements to direct military sales to Israel”

Heritage Foundation report calls to wind down military aid to Israel
Emily Brooks and Laura Kelly
March 12, 2025

The Heritage Foundation is proposing that the U.S. wind down military aid to Israel as part of a strategy to “re-orient its relationship” with the country over the next two decades, a notable stance for the prominent conservative think tank given the long and deep support for Israel among conservatives and Republicans. The Heritage report on moving the U.S.-Israel strategy, “From Special Relationship to Strategic Partnership,” was crafted by its defense experts and released on Wednesday…Release of the report was accompanied by Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter canceling a scheduled appearance at a Heritage Foundation event scheduled to promote the new report, as first reported by Jewish Insider. HERITAGE FOUNDATION Heritage Releases Strategic Framework to Elevate and Strengthen U.S.- Israel Relations as Israel Approaches Its Centenary Given recent developments in the Middle East and a new foreign policy mandate from the United States, the current MOU between the U.S. and Israel no longer fully aligns with the strategic interests of both nations. This special report details how the United States should re-orient its relationship with Israel to an equal strategic partnership over the next two decades. Just as the U.S. once phased out financial aid to Israel, the U.S. should transition Israel from a military financing recipient to a security partner by advancing new security and commercial frameworks.

Ten Indian construction workers were rescued overnight from a village in the West Bank, where they had been held for over a month after their passports were taken, The Times of Israel reported, citing the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority on Thursday. In a statement on X, the Indian embassy confirmed the development, saying, “Israeli authorities traced 10 missing Indian construction workers to West Bank & have brought them back to Israel. While the matter is still under investigation, the Embassy is in touch with the Israeli authorities & have requested to ensure their safety & well-being.” According to Israeli authorities, the workers were lured to the West Bank village of al-Zaayem by Palestinians with promises of jobs. Their passports were then confiscated, and attempts were made to use them to cross into Israel. READ MORE

Proposed appointment of Daniel Davis generated significant pushback from the right due to his ongoing criticism of Israel’s Gaza policy

Trump daily intel brief role almost handed over to ‘extremely dangerous’ anti-Israel scholar

Tulsi Gabbard, director of national intelligence, has decided against appointing Daniel Davis to a key intelligence position following criticism from some members of President Donald Trump’s orbit over Davis’ views on Israel’s military operations in GazaThe New York Times reported based on information from officials familiar with the situation…The canceled appointment highlights an emerging foreign policy divide within the new administration. President Trump has appointed both traditional hawks – like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz – alongside officials more skeptical of American military intervention abroad, including Gabbard. “Beinart goes through the motions of condemning what happened on October 7 but spends far longer attacking those who have stood up for Israel since then”

THE JEWISH CHRONICLE
‘For Peter Beinart, focusing on the right of Jews to be secure from terrorists is immoral’
Stephen Pollard
February 20, 2025

…Beinart has become that shul parody, hawking his self-proclaimed moral superiority around as if the rest of us should be grateful to have such a man in our midst, rather than feeling ashamed of him. That has been given full rein in his latest book, Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza. This is a book that not only need never have been written but that does not need to be read. Its most obvious pointlessness is that it is simply boring, a predictable regurgitation of every slander against Israel. We get ethnic cleansing, apartheid, massacres and all the usual stuff. Why bother with Beinart when this is the everyday diet of the media? READ MORE

“More than half of Democrats are anti-Israel, according to a shocking new poll”

NEW YORK POST
Shocking Gallup survey finds 60% of Dems are anti-Israel — first time ever for major US political party
Carl Campanile
February 27, 2025

Only 33% of Dems surveyed by Gallup said they had a favorable view of Israel, while a whopping 60% said they viewed the Jewish State unfavorably and 4% had no opinion. It’s the first time ever that a Gallup survey showed a majority of members of a main US political party had a negative opinion of the Jewish state, with the question being asked since 1989. By comparison, 83% of Republicans said they had a favorable view of Israel, and just 13% unfavorable, with 4% not offering an opinion, the poll found. READ MORE

“Three IDF officials are uniquely responsible for the last-minute decisions they made once there was evidence of a potential imminent attack”

How a massacre happened: How three top IDF officials failed to prevent Hamas’s attack
Yonah Jeremy Bob
March 7, 2025

…There are many pieces of evidence regarding what Hamas might have done the night before October 7, which The Jerusalem Post has been exposed to but is barred from publication for now. Of the evidence that is allowed to be published for now, the most crucial components are: (1) The Walls of Jericho Plan; (2) the SIM cellphone cards, which Hamas turned on in Gaza; (3) the Air Force noticing some movements relating to Hamas’s rocket crews; and (4) a variety of intelligence readings on Hamas movements (the specifics of which are still classified). One fascinating aspect of the IDF probes as presented to the Post is that although one would assume that such top-level officials would have access to everything, each of these three major characters knew different pieces of information. “Witkoff’s treatment of Netanyahu was effective but it was also cartoonishly performative”

What Trump’s Tough-Guy Diplomacy Means for Israel
Seth Mandel
March 13, 2025

Israelis may be relieved that U.S. envoy Adam Boehler has been sidelined from Hamas talks after his disastrous foray into hostage diplomacy, but they should remember that it is ultimately President Trump who sets the agenda. A new profile of the president’s main negotiator, Steve Witkoff, contains some insight into what Trump likes about Witkoff, what he expects of him, and what that means for anyone sitting across the table from him. The Telegraph reports that Witkoff’s initial success in getting a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas raised his stature enough to earn a shot at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine. He has replaced Keith Kellogg, the retired general and national security adviser, as the administration’s top mediator for that conflict as well. READ MORE
