Will an Anthropology Faculty Group Become a Political Tool to Boycott and Attack Israel?
Miriam F. Elman
June 19, 2023

At a time of rising antisemitism on campus, why is a professional academic association, headquartered in Virginia, poised to embark on a course of action that will further marginalize and alienate Jewish students and potentially contribute to more anti-Jewish hatred and harassment? On June 15, the American Anthropological Association (AAA) opened a membership-wide referendum on a proposed resolution to boycott Israeli academic institutions…The vast majority of scholarly societies and academic organizations, like the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), recognize that such a measure runs afoul of the bedrock principles and core mission of the academy. Netanyahu says IDF preparing in case Arab Israelis join enemy in wartime
June 20, 2023

…Lawmakers asked Netanyahu if Israel was ready for a multi-front war, and whether that included preparations for a possible internal threat from certain segments of the Arab Israeli population. Israel became aware of the possible danger during “Operation Guardian of the Walls” in May 2021. While Israel was engaged in a military operation against terrorists in the Gaza Strip, Arabs within Israel rioted, blocking roads, including those leading to army bases. Twenty-three police stations were also damaged, and about 300 policemen were injured. In response, the IDF incorporated scenarios in which rioting hampered the movement of Israeli forces during wartime in its “Chariots of Fire” exercise in May-June 2022. READ MORE

Ukraine-Russia War: Putin not antisemitic, demonizes Zelensky
Zivka Klein
June 19, 2023

…“Putin is not antisemitic, isn’t an antisemite, on the contrary, he sympathizes with Jews for many reasons but he is now building a new dictatorship,” Sharansky explained. He elaborated that Putin has made it his business to demonize Zelensky’s Jewish background since he wishes to return to the days when the Red Army of the Former Soviet Union freed the world from the Nazis…Russia is returning to the “period of the Iron Curtain that forbids people to say what they think or want,” Sharansky continued, adding that “Russia ‘limits freedom.’ There are four times more Jewish who have left Putin’s Russia than Zelensky’s Ukraine.” READ MORE

65 Senators Urge Biden Administration to Admit Israel to US Visa Waiver Program
Andrew Bernard
June 21, 2023

A bi-partisan group of 65 Senators sent a letter to senior Biden administration officials on Wednesday urging them to admit Israel to the US Visa Waiver Program before the end of the year. Israelis have long pushed for admission to the program, which would substantially reduce hurdles for Israelis attempting to visit the United States. Israelis seeking a US business or tourist visa currently face months-long wait times for interviews at the Jerusalem embassy and Tel Aviv consulate, but would be admitted for 90 days visa-free under the VWP. Established in 1986, there are currently 40 countries included in the VWP, mostly in Europe. READ MORE

Biden honors two Israel critics with USHMM appointment

Rescind Biden’s Appointment to Holocaust Museum’s Board Hostile-to-Israel Kimberly Emerson and Alan Solomont
Morton Klein
June 13, 2023

ZOA and I, Morton Klein, as a child of Holocaust survivors who lost most of my family to Hitler’s Holocaust, condemn and urge rescission of President Biden’s recent horrific and frightening appointment to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Council of two board members of hostile-to-Israel non-governmental organizations…Since 2012, Kimberly Emerson has been an active member of the Board of Directors of the Israel-bashing and America-bashing Human Rights Watch, which is infamous for falsely accusing Israel of “apartheid,” and “crimes against humanity”Alan Solomont was a long-time Board member of vicious hostile-to-Israel groups New Israel Fund (which funds numerous anti-Israel groups that promote antisemitic BDS), and Israel Policy Forum (which is so radical that it was the only group to testify against moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem). What to expect the day after a new US-Iran deal
Israel Kasnett
June 15, 2023

Washington and Tehran are engaged in indirect negotiations to close a deal with regard to its illicit nuclear program that will effectively bring Iran in from the cold. While the precise details of the emerging deal are not yet known, it will reportedly limit Iran’s uranium enrichment to its current production level of 60%. According to The New York Times, it will also reportedly require Iran to halt attacks against U.S. contractors in Syria and Iraq, increase cooperation with international nuclear inspectors and cease ballistic missile sales to Russia. In exchange, Washington would agree not to increase economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic…READ MORE

Israel and Russia agree on new Jerusalem embassy branch

ISRAEL HAYOM (by agreement with JNS)
Russia to open embassy branch office in Jerusalem following deal with city
Ariel Kahana
June 16, 2023

Some five years after the US opened its embassy in Jerusalem, Russia is set to build a branch office in the capital for its Tel Aviv embassy as part of a secret deal signed between the two countries, Israel Hayom can report after obtaining a copy of the agreement. The Jerusalem City Hall, led by Mayor Moshe Lion, has agreed as part of the deal with the Russian Foreign Ministry to settle a long-standing dispute over the area in question. The provisions include a Russian commitment to set up the embassy branch office in the Maalot Parking lot compound in the city center, in exchange for the city pledging to avoid expropriation of the area for the light rail project being built in its vicinity, essentially requiring a rerouting of the line. Most Palestinians support ‘armed struggle’ against Israel
Khaled Abu Toameh
June 15, 2023

The establishment of radical Islamic groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and their participation in the armed struggle against Israel, was the best thing that happened to the Palestinian people since 1948, a public opinion poll published Thursday showed. The poll, conducted by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, also showed that Palestinian support for the two-state solution remains as low as it was three months ago. Support for a two-state solution stands at 28%, and opposition to it stands at 70%…Asked to describe the standing of Israel on its 75th anniversary, 42% of those polled said it was one of the most powerful countries in the world economically and militarily. The Israeli left threatens murder and incites civil war
Caroline Glick
June 9, 2023

On Sunday, retired Brig. Gen. Nehemiah Dagan, one of the heads of the left’s anti-government campaign, published a post on his Facebook that included an explicit call for civil war and physical destruction of the Kohelet Forum—a think tank in Jerusalem that Dagan and his associates have singled out for harassment and assault. Dagan’s post, which he deleted three days later, is worth quoting at length…Throughout the past several months of leftist political violence, Kohelet scholars and donors have been subjected to a continuous stream of violent threats on social media. Kohelet has filed repeated complaints with the police. To date, no one has been indicted. READ MORE
