Biden honors two Israel critics with USHMM appointment

ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA
Rescind Biden’s Appointment to Holocaust Museum’s Board Hostile-to-Israel Kimberly Emerson and Alan Solomont
Morton Klein
June 13, 2023

ZOA and I, Morton Klein, as a child of Holocaust survivors who lost most of my family to Hitler’s Holocaust, condemn and urge rescission of President Biden’s recent horrific and frightening appointment to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Council of two board members of hostile-to-Israel non-governmental organizations…Since 2012, Kimberly Emerson has been an active member of the Board of Directors of the Israel-bashing and America-bashing Human Rights Watch, which is infamous for falsely accusing Israel of “apartheid,” and “crimes against humanity”Alan Solomont was a long-time Board member of vicious hostile-to-Israel groups New Israel Fund (which funds numerous anti-Israel groups that promote antisemitic BDS), and Israel Policy Forum (which is so radical that it was the only group to testify against moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem). What to expect the day after a new US-Iran deal
Israel Kasnett
June 15, 2023

Washington and Tehran are engaged in indirect negotiations to close a deal with regard to its illicit nuclear program that will effectively bring Iran in from the cold. While the precise details of the emerging deal are not yet known, it will reportedly limit Iran’s uranium enrichment to its current production level of 60%. According to The New York Times, it will also reportedly require Iran to halt attacks against U.S. contractors in Syria and Iraq, increase cooperation with international nuclear inspectors and cease ballistic missile sales to Russia. In exchange, Washington would agree not to increase economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic…READ MORE

Israel and Russia agree on new Jerusalem embassy branch

ISRAEL HAYOM (by agreement with JNS)
Russia to open embassy branch office in Jerusalem following deal with city
Ariel Kahana
June 16, 2023

Some five years after the US opened its embassy in Jerusalem, Russia is set to build a branch office in the capital for its Tel Aviv embassy as part of a secret deal signed between the two countries, Israel Hayom can report after obtaining a copy of the agreement. The Jerusalem City Hall, led by Mayor Moshe Lion, has agreed as part of the deal with the Russian Foreign Ministry to settle a long-standing dispute over the area in question. The provisions include a Russian commitment to set up the embassy branch office in the Maalot Parking lot compound in the city center, in exchange for the city pledging to avoid expropriation of the area for the light rail project being built in its vicinity, essentially requiring a rerouting of the line. Palestinian survey: 66% believe Israel will not celebrate its 100th anniversary and 80% want Mahmoud Abbas to resign

JERUSALEM POST
Most Palestinians support ‘armed struggle’ against Israel
Khaled Abu Toameh
June 15, 2023

The establishment of radical Islamic groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and their participation in the armed struggle against Israel, was the best thing that happened to the Palestinian people since 1948, a public opinion poll published Thursday showed. The poll, conducted by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, also showed that Palestinian support for the two-state solution remains as low as it was three months ago. Support for a two-state solution stands at 28%, and opposition to it stands at 70%…Asked to describe the standing of Israel on its 75th anniversary, 42% of those polled said it was one of the most powerful countries in the world economically and militarily. “When the left began its anti-government campaign, the public expectation was that violent lawbreakers would be treated the same way as their right-wing counterparts had in the past. That has not been the case”

The Israeli left threatens murder and incites civil war
Caroline Glick
June 9, 2023

On Sunday, retired Brig. Gen. Nehemiah Dagan, one of the heads of the left’s anti-government campaign, published a post on his Facebook that included an explicit call for civil war and physical destruction of the Kohelet Forum—a think tank in Jerusalem that Dagan and his associates have singled out for harassment and assault. Dagan’s post, which he deleted three days later, is worth quoting at length…Throughout the past several months of leftist political violence, Kohelet scholars and donors have been subjected to a continuous stream of violent threats on social media. Kohelet has filed repeated complaints with the police. To date, no one has been indicted. READ MORE

“Netanyahu’s voters are typically darker-skinned Mizrahi Jews, and so Israel’s progressives often play on ethnic and racial stereotypes to express their scorn for the right”

TABLET MAG
Israel’s Civil Rights Movement
Gadi Taub
June 7, 2023

…Israel’s “resistance” movement is not a popular revolt. It is the revolt of Israel’s elites, out to protect Israel’s peculiar oligarchic structure of government. The Supreme Court, which holds more power in Israel than any court in any Western democracy, has allowed Israel’s liberal elites to rule from the bench even as they keep losing elections. They will not give up this arrangement without a fight. The protest movement was, accordingly, lavishly (and in part internationally) funded. It was well organized by people who have both the time and the skills for such a large-scale operation, and it was cheered on, rather than covered, by the mainstream press. It also helped, of course, that Israel’s “democratic resistance” movement was politically supported by the Biden administration and its ambassador to Israel, Tom Nides. READ MORE

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg offers sweetheart plea deal to suspect in brutal anti-Semitic attack
Elizabeth Rosner and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon
January 12, 2023

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is offering a sweetheart plea deal to a suspect charged in the brutal anti-Semitic beating of a Jewish man in Midtown, prosecutors confirmed. Waseem Awawdeh — who defiantly said “I would do it again” after his arrest in the cowardly assault on Joseph Borgen near a pro-Israel rally — has received a six-month plea deal offer from the controversial prosecutor. That would be a slap on the wrist compared to the up to seven years he would face if convicted of the charges, including attempted assault as a hate crime, at trial. Awawdeh, 24, was part of a gang of brutes busted in the May 20, 2021 attack on Borgen, who was wearing a yarmulke as he walked to a pro-Israel rally near Broadway and West 49th Street. READ MORE

‘No Joke’: The Baffling Silence by The Biden Administration, UN and EU on Iran’s Human Rights Abuses
Majid Rafizadeh
June 10, 2023

Not only have the Biden Administration, the EU, and the UN have been silent in the face of the Iranian regime’s increasing human rights violations, but just a few days after the regime executed two young men, Yousef Mehrad and Sadrollah Fazeli Zare, for “blasphemy,” Iran was rewarded by being appointed chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council 2023 Social Forum, as well as being handsomely compensated by the European Union. The grotesque move prompted The Telegraph to headline, “Iran human rights role ‘like granting Bin Laden a Nobel Peace Prize.’READ MORE

CUNY Chancellor Matos Rodriguez has strategically replaced Jewish leaders with individuals that spew harmful antisemitic rhetoric

STOP ANTISEMITISM
Antisemite of the Week:
CUNY Chancellor Felix Matos Rodríguez

June 10, 2023

In 2019, Felix Matos Rodriguez was promoted as Chancellor of The City University of New York (CUNY), leading the nation’s largest urban university and overseeing its 25 colleges and nearly 250,000 students. Just 4 short years later, in the city where the population is 20% Jewish, Matos Rodriguez has transformed CUNY into America’s most antisemitic university. Matos Rodriguez parades himself as a “champion of student equity” however results show CUNY’s Jewish students and faculty are continually disregarded, dismissed, and attacked over their identity. Jewish students at CUNY have said they have been harassed and bullied to the point of some dropping out. In most of these instances, the perpetrators of this abuse are never addressed, and Chancellor Matos Rodriguez’s silence is deafening. READ MORE

Defense rests in Pittsburgh synagogue shooting trial without calling witnesses or presenting evidence
Ron Kampeas
June 14, 2023

Defense attorneys in the trial of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter will not be calling witnesses or presenting evidence in court, following 11 days of harrowing testimony from witnesses called by the prosecution. The defense attorneys’ choice underscores their acknowledgement that their client committed the attack. Since the beginning of the trial, lead defense attorney Judy Clarke has made clear that her goal is to prevent the shooter, Robert Bowers, from being sentenced to death…The prosecution wrapped up its case before lunch on Wednesday with testimony from Andrea Wedner, one of two worshippers who were injured by gunfire in the shooting and survived. Wedner was with her mother, Rose Mallinger, when the gunman entered the chapel. Mallinger, who was 97, was killed in the attack.
