Israel said closely coordinating with US on response to Iranian missile attack, expected in coming days; oil prices jump, Gulf states wary Iran will retaliate on their oil sites

Biden says holding ‘discussions’ on possible Israeli strike on Iran’s oil facilities
Staff and Agencies
October 3, 2024

US President Joe Biden on Thursday told reporters in Washington that the idea of Israel striking Iran’s oil in retaliation for Tuesday’s ballistic missile attack was “in discussion,” as reports indicated that Israel was determined to strongly respond, but had not yet decided on the scope and timing. Speaking to reporters as he headed to his Marine One helicopter on the South Lawn of the White House, Biden was asked if he supported Israel striking Iran’s oil facilities. “We’re in discussion of that. I think — I think that would be a little — anyway,” Biden responded, adding that Israel would ultimately make its own decisions on how to respond to Iran’s massive missile strike. READ MORE

JPOST Nasrallah’s reported successor, Hashem Safieddine, targeted in IAF strike in Beirut Israel allegedly tried to eliminate former Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah’s successor, Hashem Safieddine, in the Dahieh suburb in Beirut, Israeli media reported early on Friday, citing Lebanese reports. These reports could not be verified.  The strikes targeted a meeting of senior Hezbollah leaders, including Safieddine, three Israeli officials told The New York Times. Safieddine, as head of Hezbollah’s executive council, oversees the group’s political affairs. He also sits on the Jihad Council, which manages the group’s military operations…

Israel shows America how to win wars

Killing Nasrallah
Lee Smith
September 27, 2024

By ordering the strike on Nasrallah while attending the U.N. General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underscored the Jewish state’s independence from the global consensus that has resolved not to confront terrorists but rather to appease them, whether they’re plotting in the Middle East or living among the local populations of Western nations, including the United States. Israel’s attack also shows that almost everything U.S. and other Western civilian and military leaders have believed about the Middle East for the last 20 years was simply a collection of excuses for losing wars. FUTURE OF JEWISH Joshua Hoffman: A historic opportunity for Israel and the Middle East is emerging Tuesday’s launch of 181 ballistic missiles by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israel should not have come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention the Middle East of late. Since October 7th, Israel has been thoroughly and embarrassingly thrashing the Iranian regime — defanging its proxies across the Middle East, degrading its reputation among said proxies, and proving to the world just how flimsy of a spiderweb is its Islamist dictatorship. ISRAEL HAYOM Nasrallah’s seismic death cracked the Iranian axis Friday’s brilliant strike led Syrian rebels to fight for Assad’s ouster, Iranian dissidents pushed for Khamenei’s demise, and Saudi social media lit up with calls against Houthi leaders. Now Israel can use this momentum to strike a hostage deal.

Heard from an imam at a Syrian mosque: “Thank Allah for the death of the oppressor Hassan Nasrallah”

Why Arabs Are Celebrating the Death of Hassan Nasrallah
Bassam Tawil
October 2, 2024

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, was often described by many in the West as a “formidable enemy” of Israel. Nasrallah’s death, however, has shown that many Arabs, including some of his fellow Lebanese citizens, also considered him an enemy and arch-terrorist. The Hezbollah chief was responsible for killing not only a large number of Israelis over the past three decades, but also many Arabs, especially in Lebanon and Syria. That is probably why the news of Nasrallah’s elimination was greeted with jubilation by many Israelis and Arabs…Images and videos circulating on social media featured Syrian children holding banners expressing gratitude to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for authorizing the assassination of Nasrallah. One banner reads: “Thank you, Netanyahu. We want you to take out the criminal Bashar Assad.” READ MORE

CAMERA BLOG What the Nasrallah Obits Omit The Associated Press said nothing about Hezbollah’s devastating attack on the Jewish center in Buenos Aires. Nothing about its attack on Israel’s embassy in that country. Nothing about its attack on the U.S. embassy in Beirut. Nothing about its attack on the Marine barracks there. Nothing about Nasrallah’s antisemitism, or his repeated demands that Jews ethnically cleanse themselves from Israel

ARUTZ SHEVA Khamenei urged Nasrallah to flee Lebanon days before elimination Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reportedly urged Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to flee Lebanon just days before he was eliminated in an Israeli air strike in Beirut, three Iranian sources told Reuters on Wednesday. Now, Khamenei is deeply concerned about Israeli infiltration within Tehran’s senior government ranks, the sources said.

“Joe Biden has hoped to deter Iran by restraining Israel. Time to take off the handcuffs”

Let Israel Win the War Iran Started
Eli Lake
October 1, 2024

…Since October 7, we’ve seen a consistent story: The Biden administration views its support for Israel in purely defensive terms, and feels a duty to restrain Israel’s offense. The American hug comes with handcuffs.  And the handcuffs often come with stern admonitions. So Biden arms the Jewish state and professes his support for Israel’s right to defend itself, but there is always a “but.” Israel has a right to self-defense, but it must do more to protect the Palestinian civilians Hamas uses as human shields. Israel has a right to self-defense, but it should not escalate its war against Hezbollah—even as the terror group fires rockets and missiles over Lebanon’s southern border. Israel has a right to self-defense, but it must participate in ceasefire talks that Hamas has boycotted. Israel has a right to self-defense, but there is no way it can enter its enemy’s last stronghold in Gaza without unacceptable casualties. Put another way, Israel has a right to fight its enemies to a tie. READ MORE

Photo of Aziz Salha displaying his blood-soaked hands to mob was a defining image of the Second Intifada; IDF says he was targeted in Deir al-Balah

Palestinian infamous for 2000 lynching of soldiers in Ramallah killed in Gaza strike
Emanuel Fabian
October 3, 2024

The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet said in a statement Thursday that they had killed Aziz Salha, a Palestinian man infamous for his role in the lynching of two Israeli soldiers in Ramallah in 2000, in an airstrike in Gaza. The brutal killing of the two soldiers in the first weeks of the Second Palestinian uprising, or Intifada, deeply shocked Israeli society, and the image of Salha proudly displaying his blood-soaked hands to a mob was a defining moment in the long history of violent conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. News of his death was first reported by Palestinian media and later confirmed by Israel. The IDF said Salha, 43, was targeted in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah. READ MORE

“Indeed, ‘The Message’ may well be the most beautifully crafted blood libel ever published.”

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
Israel: The racist protocols of Ta-Nehisi Coates
David Harsanyi
October 1, 2024

Ta-Nehisi Coates begins the Israeli-Palestinian section of his new bookThe Message, with a visit to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. The excursion, taken on the last day of his 10-day junket to the Palestine Festival of Literature, isn’t meant to elicit sympathy for the Jewish people or offer context about the founding of Israel. Rather, it is a literary device used to accuse the Israelis of becoming the thing they most revile. You see the irony, of course. It’s like unfurling one of those Israeli flags with a swastika painted on it — but in swirling prose. Indeed, The Message may well be the most beautifully crafted blood libel ever published. Each turn of phrase oozes with a loathing of the Jewish state. As with his previous work, history is a poetic truth in which white people are innately and inexorably evil — the Jew perhaps most of all. READ MORE

Things Worth Remembering: Mr. Biden, This Is How You Defend Israel
Douglas Murray
September 29, 2024

For the last week, hordes of diplomats have been wining and dining their way around Manhattan, where they have been quartered for the United Nations General Assembly. Anyone familiar with this annual circus could be forgiven for tuning out. So it might have escaped your notice that multiple UN grandees have availed themselves of this illustrious opportunity to demonize the world’s sole Jewish state. Israel is battling Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, two terrorist groups that will not rest until they have obliterated a nation America has always counted among its closest allies. And yet, this week, very few Americans seemed to bat an eyelid when a self-professed democratic leader—Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan—said, on U.S. soil, on the first day of the General Assembly: “Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his murder network must also be stopped by the alliance of humanity.” READ MORE

JPOST Netanyahu’s UN speech and the Hezbollah strike: A turning point for Israel? It transpired that at the time he delivered his speech, Netanyahu was aware of the fact that the Israel Air Force was about to perform a massive attack on Hezbollah headquarters in the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh – an attack designed to kill Hezbollah’s secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah. The operation had been approved by Netanyahu before he delivered his speech, and he must have had it in his mind when he spoke.

ALGEMEINER Israel Declares UN Secretary-General a Persona Non Grata Israel’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that he was barring U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres from entering the country over his failure to unequivocally condemn Iran’s missile barrage on Israel. Guterres has a long catalogue of dubious statements on Israel’s conflict with its Arab and Muslim neighbors.

…Now another very comprehensive report, “BBC coverage of the Israel-Hamas war”, has been published on the same issue. This one has been compiled and edited by the BBC’s former director of television, Danny Cohen, and accuses the BBC of making “false and damaging claims about Israel’s conduct of this war” and fuelling “the flames of antisemitism that have spread across the world”. Cohen drew upon research compiled by the excellent Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA)…The vicious media coverage in the west, produced by Hamas and its fellow travellers in the Palestinian cause and consisting of serial falsehoods, malicious distortions and blood libels designed to demonise, delegitimise and destroy Israel, is an absolutely essential weapon in the Hamas armoury. Family of Hersh Goldberg-Polin remembers his legacy at start of Rosh Hashanah

October 2, 2024

The family of slain Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin is remembering his legacy at the start of Rosh Hashanah, as the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel nears. The 23-year-old was wounded and later kidnapped from a music festival near the Israel-Gaza Strip border during the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. His parents, both Chicago natives, became outspoken advocates for the release of their son and other hostages. Goldberg-Polin’s aunt, Abby Polin, believes the issue should not be seen as a Jewish or Israeli cause, but a human cause.  READ MORE

TIME MAG As the Families of Murdered Hostages, Our Message to People in Power Is Simple: Act On the clear, blue-skied Saturday morning of Oct. 7, 2023, our loved ones and 245 others were brutally stolen from us by Hamas terrorists. Carmel was visiting her parents at Kibbutz Be’eri. Almog, Alexander, Eden, Hersh, and Ori had been celebrating peace and freedom at the Nova Music Festival. These six beautiful people were abducted into Gaza, several of them with critical injuries. They languished in miserable conditions for 328 days, then, on Aug. 29, were shot in the head, hands, shoulders, and elsewhere in their battered and starving bodies. Israeli forces found their emaciated corpses two days later in a tunnel 65 feet under a Gazan child’s bedroom.  READ MORE
