CAMERA: “Along with moral equivalence, an additional means of softening coverage of Palestinian terrorism is slapping on a headline using the euphemistic passive voice, thereby obscuring the perpetrator”

Terror in Jerusalem, Counter-Terror in Jenin, and False Moral Equivalency

One pathetic trick for covering up the morally indefensible nature of a fatal terror attack is to draw a false equivalence to deadly counter-terror activity. Attempting to explain away the horrific Palestinian terror attack on Israeli Jews outside a Jerusalem synagogue Shabbat evening, MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin excels at this morally bankrupt maneuvertweeting: “Just a reminder, as the Western media now begins to urgently and extensively cover the attacks in Jerusalem, in which at least 8 Israelis were killed, that 30 Palestinians (9 on Thursday alone) who have been killed in 2023.”…[She] egregiously omits the key fact that at least seven of them were affiliated with designated terror organizations and violently clashed with Israeli troops engaged in a counter-terror operation. The OIC’s influence at the UN is evident not only in its obsession with delegitimizing the State of Israel at every turn, but also in how it has harnessed the UN’s agencies to further a general Islamic fundamentalist agenda

How ‘The Collective Voice of the Muslim World’ Weaponizes the UN against Israel
Bassam Tawil
February 6, 2023

It is already a tired truism to say that the United Nations has a distinctly anti-Israel bias. The US became exasperated with this laser-like focus and, in unequivocal condemnation of the agency, withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in 2018 and, for the same reason, from UNESCO the following year. Predictably, a UN Committee on the Status of Women resolution singled out Israel as the only state in the world to be condemned for violations of women’s rights, as well. How can such an overwhelming amount of time, paperwork and energy of the UN’s extensive agencies, professedly representing global interests, be so single-mindedly devoted to the censure of a single democratic state? I am a 42-year-old St. Louis native, a queer woman, and politically to the left of Bernie Sanders. My worldview has deeply shaped my career. I have spent my professional life providing counseling to vulnerable populations: children in foster care, sexual minorities, the poor. For almost four years, I worked at The Washington University School of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases with teens and young adults who were HIV positive. Many of them were trans or otherwise gender nonconforming, and I could relate: Through childhood and adolescence, I did a lot of gender questioning myself. I’m now married to a transman, and together we are raising my two biological children from a previous marriage and three foster children we hope to adopt. READ MORE

U.S. House of Representatives Republicans on Thursday ousted Democrat Ilhan Omar from a high-profile committee over remarks widely condemned as antisemitic, two years after Democrats removed two Republicans from committee assignments. The deeply divided House voted 218-211 along party lines to remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee with Republicans citing the 2019 remarks for which she later apologized. One Republican voted “present.” Omar, who arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia, is the only African-born member of Congress and one of the only Muslim women in the House. She was in line to be the top Democrat on the foreign affairs panel’s Africa subcommittee. READ MORE

NBC NEWS Rep. Ilhan Omar backs resolution recognizing Israel as a ‘legitimate’ ally as GOP moves to oust her from committee More than 30 House Democrats have signed on to a new resolution “recognizing Israel as America’s legitimate and democratic ally and condemning antisemitism.” The most notable among them: Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, a Muslim American who has been a fierce critic of Israel and the Jewish lobby. Republicans ousted her from the Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday for what members of both parties said were antisemitic remarks.

Netanyahu: ‘I call on citizens not to take the law into their own hands – for that we have an army and police’

In the worst murderous rampage Israel has known in years, seven people were killed in a shooting attack outside a synagogue in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Neve Yaakov on Friday evening. The 21-year-old terrorist – a resident of east Jerusalem – arrived outside the Ateret Avraham synagogue at around 8 p.m. and opened fire at people walking nearby. He then attempted to flee the scene by car and fired in the direction of Israel Police officers who fired back and killed him. After a second terrorist attack in the City of David on Saturday morning, the IDF bolstered its forces in the West Bank with three additional battalions. In addition, since Friday night, the police had arrested over 40 suspects who were taken in for questioning to determine if the attacker had assistance. READ MORE

ELDER OF ZIYON The most progressive, liberal, Westernized Palestinians support murdering Jews Up until Friday night’s terror attack in Jerusalem, Mahmoud Abbas usually condemned terror attacks like that – usually at the urging of the US. This time, he didn’t. And the Palestinian intelligentsia who are the face of Palestinians to the Western world got the memo.

Israeli Democracy Is Fine, Thank You for Asking
Gil Troy
February 1, 2023

As the brutal videos from Memphis of Black police officers beating a Black man to death trigger yet another racial paroxysm, many Americans are claiming that Israeli democracy is doomed. While this juxtaposition may seem odd, disruptions in both countries can teach us that democratic life is often a roller-coaster ride. No democracy is problem-free—and it is self-defeating to hear every governmental initiative you dislike as liberty’s death knell. While there is much to debate about Israel’s judicial system, reports of the death of Israeli democracy are highly exaggerated. READ MORE

Orit Strook rebukes Blinken over his veiled criticism of Israel’s judicial reform

Israeli minister to Blinken: We don’t need to be lectured on democracy
January 31, 2023

An Israeli minister publicly rebuked U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken Tuesday, chiding him for expressing the Biden administration’s concerns over the Netanyahu government’s plans to reform the judicial system. In a tweet Tuesday morning, National Missions Minister Orit Strook (Religious Zionist Party) accused Blinken of lecturing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on democracy during their meeting in Jerusalem Monday evening. While the Israeli premier tried to steer the conversation towards his concerns regarding Iran and the Islamic regime’s nuclear aspirations, Blinken hinted at White House opposition to the Netanyahu government’s handling of the judicial reform plan. Today, Iranian money gushes into the coffers of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and many analysts now believe Iran is beginning to influence the Palestinian Authority as well

Media claims that last weekend’s terror attacks in Jerusalem were an act of revenge for the deaths of nine members of Islamic Jihad during an IDF raid in Jenin are false. The attacks were a product of hateful ideology and antisemitic incitement. One can see this in the way Palestinian society celebrated the attack. In Ramallah, Nablus, Jenin and eastern Jerusalem, candies were joyously handed out, while Hamas, Islamic Jihad and even the ostensibly “moderate” Fatah spoke in praise of the murderers. Far from a specific act of revenge, the attacks were part of a long legacy of Palestinian opposition to the very presence of Jews in the Land of Israel, which in the last year alone has resulted in 2,200 attacks and 29 deaths. 169 liberal US Jewish leaders sign letter expressing concern over Israeli government

February 1, 2023

A letter signed by 169 US liberal Jewish leaders and published Wednesday expressed concern over many of the policies proposed by the new hardline Israeli government. The statement calls for a “critical and necessary debate” about the government’s policies and cautioned against false accusations of antisemitism aimed at Israel’s critics. “Those who employ accusations of antisemitism as a political weapon poison the debate. They weaken our ability to fight real antisemitism and effectively advocate for a strong US-Israel relationship,” it read. The list of signatories includes the former executives of rabbinical seminaries, Jewish Federations, AIPAC and the Conference of Presidents. READ MORE

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday announced $50 million in new funding for a UN agency that is dedicated solely to the descendants of Palestinian refugees and which has been widely denounced for propagating antisemitism, eliciting rebuke from a top Senate Republican…Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID), the ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, slammed the move Wednesday. “The Biden Administration is far too eager to give out US taxpayer dollars to UNRWA,” Risch told The Algemeiner. “I do not support a single US taxpayer dollar going to UNRWA without serious reform, in part because their textbooks continue time and again to include antisemitic content…” READ MORE
