Hundreds of Palestinians have taken to the streets of Gaza in a rare and direct display of anger against Hamas, blaming the Iran-backed group for plunging the territory into 16 months of devastation and bloodshed. The protests, which are ongoing, erupted in Beit Lahia, where residents marched through the rubble of their town, chanting “Hamas, get out” and “Hamas are terrorists.” The Beit Lahia protest came just hours after Israeli evacuation orders for the town’s residents. Israel’s Security Cabinet has approved Defence Minister Israel Katz’s proposal to establish a new directorate within the ministry to facilitate the “voluntary emigration” out of the Gaza Strip. The newly formed directorate is tasked with overseeing the “safe and controlled passage of Gaza residents for their voluntary departure,” according to a statement from Katz’s office. This includes managing logistics such as securing movement routes, processing individuals at designated crossings, and coordinating the necessary infrastructure to support travel by land, sea and air. The push for emigration, long favoured by the Israeli far-right, has gained new prominence following US President Trump’s suggestion that Washington would “take over” Gaza and displace its population – whether this would be temporary or permanent was left ambiguous. There’s a new show on Amazon right now that gives the most accurate portrayal of how American Christians see the Jewish people that I have seen in a long time. House of David is a biblical drama from brothers Andy and Jon Erwin, a duo of Christian filmmakers from Alabama. It tells the biblical story of King David, author of the book of Psalms, who was a shepherd, musician, and poet before he came to the throne. And it’s freaking phenomenal. There’s much for Jewish audiences to love. Set in Israel in 1000 BC, the series brings the biblical story to life with compelling characters of the sort the Bible excels at; the show is respectful of the source material while also taking some subtle liberties (Agag, king of the Amalekites—the prototype in Jewish tradition for hatred of the Jewish people—is portrayed as a cannibal, for example).  READ MORE

Last week, the Trump administration won a high-stakes showdown with Columbia University. Following the October 7 terrorist attack against Israel, Columbia has been ground zero for pro-Hamas agitation on America’s campuses. It has seen marches, occupations, vandalism, and violence. In response, the White House threatened to withhold $400 million in public funding unless the university enacted meaningful reforms. The administration’s hardball approach paid off: Columbia has now acceded to virtually all the administration’s demands. A lot has been said about “Pavergate,” the controversy over Highland Park Council Member Kim Stone’s vote to install permeable pavers on the alley leading to and facing onto her home. As a neighbor whose home of 33 years backs up to the same alley, I objected to the $900,000 expense at the time, even though these beautiful pavers have now improved my own home’s value. As Kim seeks re-election, she is justifying her vote by pointing to the merits of the decision, but that misses the bigger point — that Kim voted when she should have recused herself due to a clear conflict of interest. Since the pavers were permanent improvements that increased the value of her home, she never should have participated in that vote. READ MORE

…Similarly, it is troubling that those who argue, against all available evidence, that Mahmoud Khalil is a martyr on the altar of free speech—rather than someone who violated the terms of his residency by advocating for a terror group—enjoy near-universal access to and support from our finest academic institutions, our best-endowed philanthropies, and our best-placed legal or political elites. Telling foreign nationals to refrain from espousing support for a terror group to evade legal trouble exceeds the bounds of advocacy; it approximates aiding and abetting people in skirting our immigration laws. If nothing else, the Khalil case demonstrates yet again that for America’s progressive elites, power, not principle, is the currency that counts, and that the system they’ve designed ensures that their power is preserved in perpetuity, defending even those fellow travelers who work to undermine our national-security interests.
