Motorola among other companies targeted by ESG movement for supporting Israel

NEW YORK POST
Woke ‘ESG’ investors guilty of anti-Semitism as they target Israel
Richard Goldberg
January 24, 2023

Israel boycotters have a new home for waging economic war against the world’s only Jewish state: environmental, social and governance ratings. Federal and state officials should respond by demanding transparency for investors, enforcing existing anti-boycott laws and preventing retirement funds from being weaponized for anti-Semitic purposes.  Take the case of Motorola Solutions, a global leader in two-way-radio systems and command-center software for first responders. Headquartered in Chicago, the company boasts it strives to reduce carbon emissions and increase its workforce diversity. In almost every category, Motorola Solutions looks to be a model ESG-compliant— read “progressive” — corporate citizen.  Yet despite its low overall risk profile, Yahoo! Finance warns ESG-minded investors that Motorola Solutions carries a “significant controversy level” twice as large as its peer average. What it doesn’t disclose is the supposed controversy surrounds the company’s sales of counterterrorism equipment to Israel to stop suicide bombers from blowing up restaurants and buses. READ MORE

Harvard reverses course: Ken Roth to receive fellowship
January 19, 2023

The Harvard Kennedy School reversed itself on Thursday and decided to offer a fellowship to Kenneth Roth. Roth was reportedly offered the position by Carr Center for Public Policy Executive Director Sushma Raman last May and accepted it the following month. However, the decision would be overruled by the center’s dean, Douglas Elmendorf, who concluded that Roth’s tweets showed an anti-Israel bias. The New York Times quoted Elmendorf as saying that he had made an “error,” and that his about-face was not a result of pressure from university supporters. READ MORE

JNS Tobin: Harvard surrenders to the antisemites By bending its knee to pressure from Israel-bashers and their media cheerleaders, the school demonstrated the moral bankruptcy of elite universities. Jews should take note.

“To the degree there is any independent journalistic inquiry about Biden—such as we are only now seeing with Biden’s security violations—it is likely only because the party wants the 80-year-old enfeebled Biden out of office”

AMERICAN GREATNESS
The Manic Methods of Mad Democrats
Victor Davis Hanson
January 15, 2023

For all Joe Biden’s talk about “semi-fascist” and “un-American,” “ultra-MAGA” Republicans, it is the Democratic Party that has far more radically changed. It is descended into a woke, neo-socialist, radically green party. And it is committed, as Barack Obama once promised, to fundamentally transforming America. How it proceeds with that agenda is now as entirely predictable as it is creepy. Before any presidential or midterm election, strict news suppression ensures that all bad news will follow, not precede, the voting. The Twitter files, Project Veritas ambush interviews, the Podesta emails, and occasional left-wing braggadocio like Molly Ball’s now infamous post-2020 election revelations in Time magazine, confirm the fusion between the media and the Democratic Party. Paul Vallas polls ahead in upcoming Chicago mayoral primary

JOHN KASS NEWS
The Gloves Are Off In The Chicago Mayor’s Race
Steve Huntley
January 22, 2023

…According to a poll released the same day that the Tribune broke the story about the Madigan phone conversation, Garcia has already lost his frontrunner status to former Chicago schools chief Paul Vallas.…It’s Vallas who has made fighting crime and ending the war on cops the centerpiece of his campaign and done it effectively. He proposes hiring 2,300 police, getting cops back on the beat and at CTA platforms and riding CTA trains, beefing up the detective ranks, using helicopters and drones against carjackings, ending what is in effect, a no-chase against fleeing criminals, and, critically supporting and treating cops like the vital members of our society that they are. NEW YORK SUN Crime Takes Center Stage in Chicago’s Mayoral Election Crime, not police reform, is top of voters’ minds in 2023, which is a problem for someone elected on a police reform platform.

Blinken says Iran deal no longer a priority, warns Tehran of ‘consequences’
Staff
January 18, 2023

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken doubled down Tuesday on the assertion that the United States no longer considers reaching an agreement with Iran over its nuclear program a priority, and warned Tehran of “consequences” for its actions at home and in Russia. At a press conference in Washington alongside UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, Blinken said Iran had long rejected the possibility of reviving the original agreement from 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. “The Iranians killed the opportunity to come back to that agreement swiftly many months ago,” he said. “There was an opportunity on the table that they rejected, an opportunity that was approved by all who were involved.” READ MORE

JNS Sullivan kicks off Israel visit focused on Iran Sullivan said last week that the Iranian nuclear threat would be a “substantial topic of conversation” during his visit. “We’ll have the opportunity to engage deeply with the new Israeli government on the threat posed by Iran. And I think we share the same fundamental objectives. And we will work through any differences we have on tactics, the same way that we have over the course of the past two years,” he said.

FREE BEACON Iranian Military Leader Threatens Destruction of US and Israel An Iranian military leader said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic is strengthening its military infrastructure and will soon oversee the destruction of Israel and the United States. Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, the deputy commander in chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Tehran’s chief terrorism force, said that “very soon” the world “will witness the destruction of the Zionist regime.” Iran, he said, is equipping Palestinian militant groups such as Hamas to wage war against Israel.

Legal expert Professor Eugene Kontorovich: “It’s time to reverse the power grab through which judges seized sweeping authority in the 1990’s”

Kontorovich: Time to Reverse ‘Power Grab’ by Israeli Judiciary
Deborah Brand
January 16, 2023

Kontorovich, who is director of International Law at the Jerusalem-based Kohelet Policy Forum, which has advocated judicial reform in Israel for a decade, pointed to the judicial revolution led by then-Supreme Court president Aharon Barak in the mid-1990s. “To claim that what Aharon Barak did by himself with no authorization in 1995 cannot now be undone without undermining Israeli democracy is absurd,” Kontorovich said. The “Barak Court” assumed the power to overturn legislation and to review administrative decisions. Moreover, an “independent” committee handpicks justices, with elected leaders playing only a minor role. Kontorovich has called for the Israeli judiciary to reflect the U.S. system, in which candidates for the Supreme Court are nominated by the president and voted for by the Senate. READ MORE

“The stockpile of weapons is held in Israel for US use across the Middle East, and Israel itself has withdrawn ammunition from it in the past”

JERUSALEM POST
US will reimburse Israel for weapons transferred to Ukraine
Yonah Jeremy Rob, Tovah Lazaroff
January 18, 2023

The Biden administration will replenish any US weapons it recently transferred to Ukraine from an American stockpile long located in Israel, an IDF source confirmed on Wednesday. The weapons transfer would not in any way impact Israel’s readiness for any emergency situation or conflict, the source explained, hours after The New York Times published an article on the depletion of the stockpile, designed to quickly help the Jewish state access arms during wartime. Israel has kept a neutral stance when it comes to Russia’s war against Ukraine, which began last February. It has opposed sending any Israeli arms or defensive military equipment to Ukraine. Archeologists Find Ancient Hebrew Coin Dated to Jewish Rebellion Against Rome: ‘Year Two of the Freedom of Israel’
January 18, 2023

An ancient Hebrew coin minted during a Jewish rebellion against Roman rule in Judea has been found during an excavation of caves by the Dead Sea, the Israel Antiquities Authority recently announced. The bronze coin was discovered at the Nahal Darga Nature Reserve. It is dated to the second year of the Bar Kokhba revolt, a failed Jewish uprising against Roman rule in Judea that broke out in 132 CE, following Roman repression of Jewish practice. The rebellion lasted until 135 CE, ending with the widespread killing and enslavement of the Jewish population, their exile from Jerusalem, and the renaming of the province of Judea to Syria Palaestina. Hamas Video of Israeli Captive Is Attempt To Pressure Israel Toward Swap Deal

A video released by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claiming to show Avera Mengistu, an Israeli citizen being held captive in the Gaza Strip since 2014, has sparked controversy over its timing and motivations. The Prime Minister’s Office in Israel said hours after the video was made public early on Monday that the government is investing all of its resources to release the captives held in Gaza Strip, but it did not say that it had been able to verify the video’s authenticity. The video was released on the same day as the swearing in of the new chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi. READ MORE

What’s life like under Hamas? ‘Whispered in Gaza’ offers unique, courageous testimony
Center for Peace and Communications
January 16, 2023

This article, the first in a series of three, presents eight short, animated interviews with residents of the Gaza Strip. Produced by the Center for Peace Communications, a New York nonprofit, they are being published by The Times of Israel because they represent a rare opportunity for ordinary, courageous Gazans to tell the world what life is like under the rule of Hamas…The short clips — none of them longer than two and a half minutes — offer poignant insights into day-to-day life in the Strip, an area that most outsiders cannot reach and whose residents directly suffer from the consequent lack of understanding.
