“In Elul, our biggest concerns should be goiing back to school, menus and guest lists, not fear and hiding a Star of David necklace”

I’m afraid to walk to shul in NYC
Cindy Grosz
September 5, 2022

I get some interesting requests. Several weeks ago, I received a phone call from a friend’s acquaintance who lives on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, a neighborhood of many liberal successful Jews, many religious. The conversation was very cordial, brief and to the point. Can I help this family find a rental outside of Manhattan for the end of September and through the Jewish holidays concluding when Simchat Torah ends. And, if so, if I find that rental, they have friends who are looking too. Jews in Manhattan are afraid to walk on streets to shul, eat in Sukkahs and wear yarmulkes as they watch fellow Jews get beaten up, robbed and mobbed simply because they are Jewish. Rosh Hashanah is a festive time, not a time to hide. READ MORE

Munich 1972: “With hand grenades and bullets the terrorists butchered the remaining nine athletes in the helicopters that brought them there, as well as a German policeman”

GATESTONE
‘There We Will Strike Them’: The Munich Massacre and Its Aftermath
by Richard Kemp
September 4, 2022

Fifty years ago this week, 5th and 6th September 1972, the world watched in horror as Jews were again brutally murdered on German soil, at the Olympics in Munich. Eight Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) terrorists, using the cover name “Black September,” tortured and murdered 11 Israeli athletes, emasculating one of them as he lay dying in front of his team-mates. They stormed the athletes’ accommodation, killed two immediately and held the remainder hostage, demanding the release of 234 terrorist prisoners held by Israel. Prime Minister Golda Meir — who had been a signatory to Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948 — refused to bargain with them, branding it blackmail. READ MORE

ELDER OF ZIYON Seven inconvenient and under-reported facts about the Munich Olympics massacre One is that the terror attack was financed by Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority. The mastermind of the Munich attack, Mohammed Daoud Oudeh (Abu Daoud), says that both Yasir Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas wished him luck and kissed him.

“In the 14-minute film was a three-minute section of their visit to Kurtz’s grandfather’s home village of #Nasielsk, #Poland, a town whose Jewish community would be decimated by the #Holocaust not long after”

How 3 minutes of a home movie from 1938 turned into an acclaimed Holocaust documentary
Stephen Silver
August 26, 2022

In 2009, writer Glenn Kurtz was working on a novel about “someone who discovers an old piece of home movie footage in a flea market and becomes obsessed with identifying the people [in it],” he said in an interview earlier this year. As he started researching what happens to old film, he remembered that his family happened to possess some home movies and wondered what became of them. This led him to a closet in his parents’ house in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he unearthed a film of his grandparents’ vacation to Europe in 1938, on the eve of World War II. READ MORE

“Just as words like apartheid and genocide have actual definitions, so does “occupation” have strict definition under international law and precedent”

ISRAEL HAYOM (by agreement with JNS)
How to defeat the Israel ‘occupation’ myth with facts
James Sinkinson
September 6, 2022

…Most anti-Israel attacks in the media take the form of lies – from apartheid to ethnic genocide to the slaughter of Palestinian children. These “big lies” have sharp edges. The words have a powerful emotional impact…which makes them sting when they land. But because these words – apartheid, genocide, slaughter – have common specific meanings, they are also relatively easy to refute. Indeed, by no rational stretch of these words’ meanings can Israel be guilty of such slanders. No separation of or discrimination against citizens by race or ethnicity – no apartheid. No methodical mass murder of people because of race or ethnicity – no genocide. No targeted, purposeful killing of innocent children – no slaughter. But one libelous accusation persists – largely because the lie is so plain-sounding and its meaning so vague and diffuse: occupation. READ MORE

“Biden’s Democrats seek a one-party state. Trump’s followers want freedom from government power”

WALL STREET JOURNAL
Biden’s Speech Had It All Backward
Lance Morrow
Sept. 4, 2022

The Democrats have the “fascist” business wrong. Donald Trump isn’t a fascist, or even a semi-fascist, in President Biden’s term. Mr. Trump is an opportunist. His ideology is coextensive with his temperament: In both, he is an anarcho- narcissist. He is Elmer Gantry, or the Music Man, if Harold Hill had been trained in the black arts by Roy Cohn. He is what you might get by crossing the Wizard of Oz with Willie Sutton, who explained that he robbed banks because “that’s where the money is.” READ MORE

Boeing KC-46’s to arrive in 2025 at the earliest; deal to cost Israel nearly $1 billion, with funds coming from military aid Washington provides to Jerusalem

US inks deal to sell Israel 4 refueling planes needed for potential Iran strike
Emanuel Fabian
September 1, 2022

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing signed a contract with the US Department of Defense on Thursday to supply Israel with four KC-46 refueling planes, the company said in a statement. The multi-role aircraft makes mid-air refueling possible for fighter jets and other aircraft, but can also be used for military transport. For Israel, the aircraft are seen as necessary to conduct potential major strikes against targets in Iran, some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from Israel and far outside the normal flight range of Israeli jets. The KC-45 aircraft are to replace the Israeli Air Force’s current fleet of aging refueling planes, which includes KC-130 Hercules and converted Boeing 707s. READ MORE

JNS What should Israel’s strategy be for the day after a nuke deal with Iran? While Israel has urged the United States not to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran nuclear deal, recent signs point to a revived agreement. This has shifted discussion in Israel from how to prevent a deal to what strategy to adopt the day after one is signed.

Abbas’s designated successor has begun takeover of Fatah
Yoni Ben-Menachem
September 1, 2022

The Palestinian Authority’s succession battle has kicked into high gear. Hussein al-Sheikh, confidant and designated successor of 86-year-old Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, has begun the process of taking over the Fatah movement in the territories. Al-Sheikh plans to take control of the Fatah leadership by convening the Eighth Fatah Conference, which will elect the movement’s institutions. Through internal elections, he aims to remove several of his rivals from the leadership and thereby pave his way to becoming Fatah’s official candidate in the presidential elections once Abbas leaves the political stage. “It is possible that in the absence of an agreement in the coming weeks that would regulate the maritime borders between Israel and Lebanon, Hezbollah would be interested in fighting against Israel”

Israel must prepare for a military operation against Hezbollah
Omer Dosri
August 24, 2022

In recent months, Israel has been negotiating to settle maritime border registration with Lebanon. This negotiation, which has known difficulties – and included new and illogical demands from the Lebanese side – is apparently nearing its end with a very good possibility that the agreement will be approved in the coming weeks. At the same time, Hezbollah threatens Israel with the possibility of military action, most likely against a naval target, and in particular, against the Karish gas rig located offshore Israel, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has recently threatened several times to carry out military action against Israel if Jerusalem is not willing to reach an agreement with Lebanon that will satisfy the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group. “For me and other young Jews, the future is no longer in America. What we experienced on campus has a lot to do with it”

COMMON SENSE
My Post-Graduation Plan? I’m Immigrating to Israel.
Blake Flayton
August 29, 2022

I had always felt at home in America. It was my home and my parents’ home and my grandparents’, and it never seemed like it could be any way else. But three weeks from now, I am leaving the place where I was born and making a new life in Israel. The story of why is the story of a growing cohort of Gen Z Jews who see what the older generations cannot yet see: That the future doesn’t feel like it’s here as much as there. When people ask me what the origin point is—when I knew I would leave—it’s not one particular moment, but a collection. Among them…READ MORE

Civilians injured, Masyaf area ablaze following alleged Israeli strike on Iranian missiles

Israeli strike destroyed over 1,000 Iran-made missiles in Syria
August 28, 2022

An airstrike Thursday on the Syrian city of Masyaf that was attributed to Israel struck a missile warehouse containing more than 1,000 Iranian-made missiles, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Saturday. The warehouse, in the city’s Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) complex, stored thousands of medium-range, surface-to-surface missiles assembled under the supervision of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “expert officers,” the report said.
Syrian air defense systems were activated in northwestern Syria on Thursday, with Syria’s state news agency SANA reporting that local forces were “confronting hostile targets” above Masyaf. Later, the agency said the airstrike was an Israeli attack. READ MORE
