Israel Is Making New Friends, with Netanyahu Out of Office
by Seth J. Frantzman

Nineteen years after Israel’s observer status at the African Union was ended during the Second Intifada, Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has announced that the symbolic status is being restored. This is an important moment for Israel, not only because Israel has repaired relations with dozens of African countries but also because it comes amid a flurry of activity for Israel’s foreign relations. Lapid has been speaking about a new era in relations with the European Union, Morocco, the Gulf, Sudan and many countries. READ MORE

Gaslighting Jews to get the right poll results

BESA
Jews Gaslighting Jews: A Primer
by Alex Joffe
July 22, 2021

A recent poll purports to capture the attitudes of American Jews regarding Israel and politics. While the poll boasts the sensational result that 22% of American Jews apparently think Israel is guilty of “genocide” against the Palestinians, a closer look shows that the poll was presented with a clear narrative arc designed to manipulate the respondents. Significantly, the poll was conducted by a progressive consulting firm on behalf of an allegedly impartial Jewish political organization that is in reality a spin-off of a Jewish Democratic organization. This gaslighting of Jews by other Jews on behalf of the Democratic Party and its progressive causes is in keeping with longstanding Obama-Biden-era practice. READ MORE

“The home of an entire family shouldn’t be demolished for the action of one individual,” the Americans pontificated. But the arrogance was only beginning

The world reacts to Israel with arrogance and hypocrisy
by Nitsana Darshan-Leitner
July 22, 2021

The US State Department reached a new level of sanctimonious ridiculousness when, after the IDF destroyed the home of a Palestinian lone-wolf terrorist who killed one teenager and critically maimed another in a drive-by shooting, the US Embassy in Jerusalem issued an official communique lambasting the Israeli action…“All parties [must] refrain from unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions and undercut efforts to advance a negotiated two-state solution,” the communique continued, “and this certainly includes the punitive demolition of Palestinian homes.” READ MORE

Media watchdog group unveils billboard outside NY Times saying it buries news of attacks on Jewish people
by Brian Flood
July 29, 2021

A large billboard has been set up outside The New York Times’ headquarters that accuses the paper of “burying” news of attacks on Jewish people decades after it admitted to downplaying the Holocaust.  The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) is responsible for the billboard addressed directly to chairman and publisher A.G. Sulzberger.  “Hey, Mr. Sulzberger, The New York Times apologized for burying news about Nazi antisemitism,” the billboard states. “Why are you burying the full truth about attacks on Jews today? Get back to us at CAMERA.ORG.”  READ MORE

Tlaib, AOC Join Call for Treasury to Strip Tax-Exempt Status From US Charities ‘Supporting’ Israeli Settlements
by Sharon Wrobel
July 29, 2021

US Representatives Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and five other Democrats have called for the US Treasury to stop granting tax exemptions to American charitable organizations active in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem. In a July 22 letter sent to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the group expressed their “extreme concern that US charities are funding and providing direct support to Israeli organizations that are working to expand and perpetuate Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise in violation of international law, including supporting the dispossession and forced displacement of Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem neighborhoods.” READ MORE

For first time, Olympics opening ceremony honors Israeli athletes murdered in Munich
July 23, 2021

For the first time ever, the Olympic Games held a moment of silence during the opening ceremony for the 11 Israeli athletes murdered during the Munich Olympics in 1972. There, the Palestinian terrorist group Black September attacked members of the Israeli Olympic team, ultimately killing six coaches and five athletes, as well as a West German police officer who participated in an unsuccessful raid to free the hostage athletes. Ankie Spitzer and Ilana Romano, widows of two of the murdered athletes, have long advocated for the International Olympic Committee to acknowledge the massacre in the opening or closing ceremony. Orthodox Jews Have the Best Sex
by Shmuley Boteach
July 21, 2021

I have not watched the new Netflix series “My Unorthodox Life,” a show supposedly about how fashion executive Julia Haart lives her life in freedom from the repressive orthodox Judaism in which she was raised. I’m not boycotting the show because it attacks Judaism. This has become weirdly common on Netflix. Indeed, you’d think its executives would at least have come up with a more creative name that using the exact same title as the 2020 Series “Unorthodox.” Nor am I skipping the show because of Julia herself; I’ve never met her and I have nothing against her. Many people who are raised religiously abandon it and that is their choice. READ MORE

JERUSALEM POST Orthodox world divided over Netflix show ‘My Unorthodox Life’
Netflix series on fashion mogul Julia Haart has religious community on the offensive. Throughout the nine-episode series, Netflix’s new hit My Unorthodox Life is packed with the superficial trappings of a soapy reality show: stiletto designer heels, helicopters to the Hamptons and a trip to Paris Fashion Week.

Ben, Jerry, and the Hilarity of Privilege
by Benjamin Kerstein
July 29, 2021

…Despite Ben and Jerry’s self-serving and self-congratulatory claims, this is not a question of whether one can criticize Israel without being antisemitic. The principle they cite is not what is at stake. What is at stake is the right of the Jewish people to exist without harassment and hate, without having their state constantly threatened with annihilation, and without being told they are horrible people for defending themselves against the onslaught. Indeed, one may note that Ben and Jerry, throughout their praise of themselves as just, moral, and progressive, say absolutely nothing about the antisemitic pogrom that has recently erupted at the hands of precisely those they are aiding and abetting. JERUSALEM POST
US Jewry failed to teach its youth about Israel, here is the result
by Herb Keinon
July 14, 2021

…What didn’t make the top 10 was that 28% of those [American Jews] polled – and 38% of those under 40 – agreed with the statement that “Israel is an apartheid state”; 23% of those polled and 33% under 40 agreed that “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians”…If one-fourth of American Jews truly think – as this poll claims, but which some observers of the American Jewish community find hard to believe – that Israel is an apartheid state committing genocide against the Palestinians, then there is something woefully wrong. And what is wrong is with American Jewry, not with Israel. READ MORE
