Iran denies plot to kill Trump, after Secret Service reportedly alerted
Laura Kelly
July 17, 2024

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday criticized “malicious” reports that Tehran is plotting an assassination against former President Trump, following reported claims by the Biden administration that the former president’s security was increased amid threats to his life from Iran. Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that the Iranian government is committed to pursuing legal action against Trump over the 2020 U.S. strike killing Qasem Soleimani…The Biden administration reportedly increased Trump’s security detail in recent weeks amid intelligence that Iran was plotting to kill the former president. The Biden administration has maintained security details for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former special representative for Iran Brian Hook, over threats from Iran to kill the men in retaliation for Soleimani’s killing. The outrageous “Gaza is starving” libel: UN finds inadequate evidence to prove a famine has occurred or is occurring in Gaza

Guardian again promotes disproven ‘starvation’ propaganda
Adam Levick
July 10, 2024

The Guardian has again promoted the starvation libel by uncritically citing the unevidenced claims of those calling themselves ‘human rights experts’. The Guardian report, “Famine has spread throughout the Gaza Strip, warns human rights experts”, July 10, written by Martin Belam and Rachel Hall, relied entirely upon an unsourced press release by a group of ‘experts’ which includes [Israel-hater] Francesca Albanese…First, this insidious libel, accusing Israel of an intentional and genocidal starvation campaign, is redolent of classic antisemitic libels and has been contradicted by an overwhelming amount of evidence that has emerged in recent weeks…One additional recent independent study revealed that the food supply provided to Palestinians in the Strip has averaged 3,374 calories per person daily, well above the 2,100 recommended by the Sphere humanitarian movement as the minimum standard. The Assassination Attempt—and America’s Choice
Yuval Levin
July 16, 2024

At first glance, Saturday’s terrifying assassination attempt on Donald Trump seems like an obvious extension of our depressing political drift.  We have grown more divided in this century, we use more militant rhetoric, and political violence has escalated. In the last 15 years, there have been shootings of members of Congress of both parties, a foiled assassination attempt of a Supreme Court justice and his family, a mob storming the Capitol to disrupt the certification of a presidential election, and rising levels of threats against public officials of all sorts. A near assassination of a once and perhaps future president might seem like all too natural a next step. And yet, this moment feels like a sharp break. Maybe because it was by far the highest profile act of domestic political violence in this century, directed at the highest profile figure in our politics, in front of television cameras, that it struck even our cynical culture as a shock. GATESTONE Lawrence Kadish: American History Altered by a Fraction of an Inch Once again, American history has been altered by a fraction of an inch. Donald Trump’s wound could have been catastrophic by such a margin. Teddy Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt when the bullet lodged in a rolled up copy of his speech he had casually stuffed into his breast pocket. Franklin Delano Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt when the gunman’s aim was faulty, killing FDR’s neighboring motorcade passenger, Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak, and wounding five others. Ronald Reagan’s bullet wound to the lung from a would-be assassin nearly killed him; he survived by the heroic efforts of emergency room doctors.

TABLET MAG Who Normalized Political Violence in America? Democratic Party officials and media deny that there’s any connection between their inflammatory rhetoric labeling Donald Trump a fascist, would-be dictator, and even Adolf Hitler and the attempt on the 2024 Republican candidate. But media executives must believe Trump supporters have a point or MSNBC wouldn’t have given Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski a 24-hour timeout Monday to put some distance between the shooting and the fare that Morning Joe has been dishing out for nearly a decade. Same with music industry executives who canceled Jack Black’s worldwide music tour after the funnyman’s bandmate told an Australian audience that his birthday wish was “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

The GOP platform document also references Iron Dome, the missile defense system slated for development during Trump’s term

As convention opens, Israel only foreign country in new GOP platform
Ariel Kahana
July 15, 2024

…The tenth chapter of the platform delineates Trump and his party’s vision for foreign relations. Israel stands out as the only country explicitly mentioned as one the US will support, with the platform stating, “We will stand with Israel, and seek peace in the Middle East.” In an exclusive interview with Israel Hayom several months ago, Trump said he “was the best president in the history of Israel,” and that he will continue to be if elected. It appears the Trump administration also aims to expand upon the Abraham Accords. “We will rebuild our Alliance Network in the Region to ensure a future of Peace, Stability, and Prosperity,” the platform declares. Notably, unlike other nations, Israel is not singled out as a country expected to fully fund its defense expenses. READ MORE

Anti-Israel ‘Squad’ at Risk of Another Big Election Loss as Poll Finds Cori Bush Trailing Opponent by 23 Points
Corey Walker
July 15, 2024

US Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), one of the fiercest critics of Israel in Congress, is trailing her Democratic primary opponent by a staggering 23 points, according to a new poll.  The findings come as Bush faces an uphill battle to avoid becoming the second member of the so-called “Squad” of far-left US lawmakers outspoken against Israel to lose to a more moderate Democrat this election cycle. St. Louis prosecutor Wesley Bell leads Bush by a margin of 56 percent to 33 percent in the Aug. 6 primary for Missouri’s 1st Congressional District, according to a survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates for the CCA Action Fund and first reported by the New York Post. UCLA to Jewish students: Stop your whining, its not as though you’re Black or LGBTQ

UCLA Urges Federal Court to Reject Jewish Students’ Civil Rights Claims
Joel B. Pollak
July 10, 2024

The University of California of Los Angeles (UCLA) claims that it should not be ordered by a federal court to protect Jewish students from antisemitism when they return to campus in the fall, after the “encampment” this past spring. UCLA was the scene of some of the most egregious and violent antisemitism among the dozens of “encampment” protest that swept the nation. Jewish students were barred by pro-Palestinian activists from entering some public areas of campus, and from reaching some of their classes. While there were pro-Israel counter-protests, Jewish students continued to be harassed; police only intervened after pro-Israel vigilantes attacked the encampment. READ MORE

JEWISH INSIDER Recent Harvard grad, once a proud Democrat, to speak at RNC. But he’s torn over Trump’s GOP Four years ago, Shabbos Kestenbaum, a recent Harvard graduate who is suing the university over its handling of campus antisemitism, was a self-described progressive Democrat who voted for Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and backed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president. Now, the 25-year-old is poised to take the stage tonight at the Republican National Convention here in Milwaukee, where he will recount the experiences of Jewish students at Harvard amid a sharp rise in antisemitic activity sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel and its war in Gaza, among other issues.

‘A Different Donald Trump’ Beams as Rivals Become ‘Converts’
Philip Wegmann
July 17, 2024

Republicans always seem to come home. Some sooner than others. Vivek Ramaswamy never really ran against him. Ron DeSantis threw his weight behind him within an hour of dropping out of the primary. But Nikki Haley, the last woman standing, she took her time. The endorsement took three full months to arrive. Donald Trump didn’t mind. The former president did not need her support to lock down a third consecutive nomination. He may not need it to return to the White House either. But as Haley walked onstage at the Republican National Convention Tuesday, Trump beamed. He listened with a bandaged ear from a box overlooking the arena to his last rival, the member of his cabinet who went astray, bending the knee in prime time. READ MORE

FREE PRESS Martin Gurri: The End of Joe Biden—and the Democratic Establishment: For both the king and what was once his court, a terrible reckoning has arrived. The campaign against Trump set a pattern that would continue for years. First, Biden was to be swaddled in the political equivalent of bubble wrap. He ran for the presidency of the United States from the basement of his home in Delaware. Why not? It was a time of pandemic. Second, a magnificent replica of Biden was erected by the establishment with the full complicity of the media, and it replaced, in the information sphere, the increasingly feeble, always spiteful, intellectually muddled real man. Third, a ring of iron was placed around the candidate to prevent public access. Biden’s appearances were carefully staged in the true sense of the word: they avoided reality and promoted a fictional character.

NEW YORK POST All the Democrats, donors and celebs who have called on Joe Biden to end campaign Joe Biden’s disastrous performance at the June 27 debate with Donald Trump sparked an explosion of concerns among Democrats – leading to a growing number of Congress members calling for the president to put an end to his 2024 run.

The IDF publicized its first probe into Israel’s October 7 failure to prevent Hamas’s invasion, focusing in on the invasion of Beeri in the South, which was overwhelmingly destroyed

JPOST
The IDF Oct 7. probes are coming out, but when will PM be probed ?
Yonah Jeremy Bob
July 11, 2024

At least three major strategic and tactical failures allowed Hamas to invade southern Israel at over 60 locations and in 22 villages on October 7, with Kibbutz Be’eri being one of the most severe victims. And it is important to enumerate all of these failures so as not to lose the big picture in the volumes of facts and time frames which the IDF shared on Thursday. But it is also important to state what did not come out on Thursday: the majority of the IDF’s remaining probes which will be publicized on a rolling basis over the next seven weeks, and just as crucially, the results of a state inquiry of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his government, and former governments who shared the failed “conceptzia”/conceptual security framework that allowed October 7 to happen. TIMES OF ISRAEL Gallant calls for state inquiry into Oct. 7 that will probe him, Netanyahu and IDF In a challenge to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called on Thursday for the formation of a state commission of inquiry to investigate the Hamas-led October 7 onslaught and the failures surrounding it. Despite calls from several opposition lawmakers, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that an investigation determining the culpability of the government cannot take place while the war in Gaza is ongoing. He has also been non-committal on establishing a state commission — the investigatory body with the greatest powers — indicating that other formats may be appropriate.

JPOST First Oct. 7 probe reveals how IDF, police failure led to Be’eri slaughter IDF Chief of Staff: “Probe demonstrates the enormity of the disaster which befell the residents of the South when the IDF was not there to protect them.”

Labour government reportedly likely to drop Britain’s challenge to International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Gallant

WORLD ISRAEL NEWS
New UK leader likely to allow ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu
July 10, 2024

Britain’s new Labour government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer is likely to drop its predecessor’s challenge to arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against senior Israeli leaders earlier this year. In May, ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan, a British national, revealed to CNN that his office had filed arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three senior Hamas leaders, charging all five with war crimes in the ongoing war between Israel and the Hamas terror organization. Now, according to a report on Monday by The Guardian, Britain is poised to drop its objections to the arrest warrants issued for the Israeli leaders. The ICC had set a July 12th deadline for Britain to provide documentation for its grievances against the arrest warrants. READ MORE

THE GUARDIAN US ‘pressuring UK to block ICC’s Netanyahu arrest warrant’ The US has been accused of putting pressure on the new Labour government not to drop a legal challenge mounted by Rishi Sunak’s administration over the international criminal court’s right to seek an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes.

Haredi conscription: IDF’s main options include a lottery to draft thousands of yeshiva students from Haredi mainstream, likely sparking major backlash, or to conscript from margins of the community

The army must soon begin enlisting ultra-Orthodox men. How will that work?
Jeremy Sharon
July 1, 2024

In a straightforward but massively consequential ruling, the High Court of Justice last week ordered the state to begin conscripting ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students into the military…There are currently 63,000 such men who are eligible for army service and now liable to be drafted, according to the court’s ruling and the attorney general’s orders. But according to Shlomit Ravitsky Tur-Paz, head of the religion and state program at the Israel Democracy Institute, there are another 14,000 young Haredi men who will turn 18 during the course of the current enlistment year…READ MORE
