Egypt’s El-Sisi has taken a ‘strategic decision to deepen ties with Israel’
February 24, 2022

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has taken a “strategic decision to deepen ties with Israel,” a report in Globes has said in recent days…“This new approach can be attributed, among other things, to the major success of the Abraham Accords, which have helped promote economic deals signed between the Israel and Egypt themselves, and private companies from the two countries…Meanwhile, the energy sector has been over the past decade “one of the areas in which deals between Israel and Egypt have flourished,” said the report, stating that pipelines “have been laid and sales agreements signed and also implemented. Now, as part of the new approach that Al-Sisi has adopted, these deals have been expanded to include Jordan.” READ MORE

Eighty years ago this week, 700 Jews drowned because no one in the world would take them in

ISRAEL FROM THE INSIDE
“Surplus Jews” no longer
by Daniel Gordis
February 21, 2022

Eighty years ago this week, on February 24, 1942, nineteen-year-old David Stoliar was alive, alone, floating on a piece of wood in the middle of the Black Sea, surrounded by corpses, yelling all night into the dark so that he would not fall asleep and freeze to death. He was in the Black Sea, surrounded by death, because he was a “surplus Jew,” as the British put it unabashedly. We’ll come back to David Stoliar. Last week, the Israeli government was cooperating with relief groups to prepare for the possible evacuation to Israel of some of the 100,000 Jews in Ukraine, should the anticipated war make that necessary. Officials apparently do not expect to need a massive airlift, but they’re preparing for all eventualities, some said. READ MORE

“US led when it persuaded the General Assembly to repeal its 1975 vote declaring Zionism to be racism. It should now actively and decisively lead the effort to end the Commission of Inquiry, which the UNHRC created to conclude essentially the same thing”

THE NATIONAL INTEREST
Biden Can Reset the UN’s Discriminatory Approach to Israel
by Toby Dershowitz and Orde Kittrie
February 18, 2022

Amnesty International’s recent report falsely accusing Israel of committing apartheid is designed to fuel a Commission of Inquiry (COI) that the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) established in May 2021 to investigate the Jewish state’s alleged human rights abuses. The COI, which will release its first report this June, appears likely to discredit the UNHRC by echoing Amnesty’s false accusation. The Biden administration, which rightly rejected the apartheid slander and committed to oppose the COI, will have a little-noticed but pivotal opportunity to counter both at a UNHRC session from February 28 to April 1. Justin Trudeau just created a caste of economic untouchables. Can we stop this dystopian policy from taking hold in America?

COMMON SENSE WITH BARI WEISS
A Social Credit System Arrives in Canada
by David Sacks
February 20, 2022

Last summer, I warned readers of Common Sense that financial deplatforming would be the next wave of online censorship. Big Tech companies like PayPal were already working with left-wing groups like the ADL and SPLC to define lists of individuals and groups who should be denied service. As more and more similarly minded tech companies followed suit (as happened with social media censorship), these deplorables would be deplatformed, debanked, and eventually denied access to the modern economy altogether, as punishment for their unacceptable views. That prediction has become reality. READ MORE

Louisville activist charged after attempted shooting of mayoral candidate
by Christopher Hutton
February 15, 2022

A former Black Lives Matter activist in Louisville, Kentucky, has been charged after the attempted shooting of a mayoral candidate…”The gunman stood in the doorway as he fired the shots, and one of my teammates was standing to the side of the door and was able to get the door slammed, and then he and other teammates that were closer to the door just threw tables and desks to barricade us in,” Greenberg said at a Monday press conference. “I’m very fortunate to have a great team of brave people who responded in that way. We are all very blessed. … It all happened so quick, but it’s a very surreal experience.” READ MORE

“We would be wholly justified in adding Morningstar to state’s list of prohibited investments” said Andrew Lappin, chair of the board’s Illinois Committee on Israel Boycott Restrictions”

Is finance giant Morningstar boycotting Israel? A new BDS battlefront emerges in investing world
by Asaf Shalev
February 8, 2022

After brushing aside allegations of anti-Israel bias for nearly a year, a multibillion-dollar investment research firm has done an about-face, hiring an outside law firm to investigate the company’s practices. The change of tack at Chicago-based Morningstar came in early December, about two weeks before the Illinois Investment Policy Board was set to place the company on its blacklist, which would have barred state-run pension systems from investing in Morningstar. According to complaints first raised by Jlens, which advocates for Israel in the investing world, Morningstar’s subsidiary Sustainalytics steers investors away from Israel by improperly inflating the country’s risk and controversy ratings — which, for Jlens and its allies, amounts to an antisemitic boycott of Israel. Is the Biden administration truly concerned about climate change, or does it want to prevent Israel from becoming a strategically important supplier of natural gas to Europe?

GATESTONE
Biden Administration Kills Israel-to-Europe Gas Pipeline
by Soeren Kern
February 15, 2022

The Biden administration has abruptly withdrawn American support for the Eastern Mediterranean (EastMed) pipeline, a project aimed at shipping natural gas from Israel to European markets. The White House said the project was antithetical to its “climate goals.” In reaching its decision, which effectively kills EastMed, the White House appears to have caved to pressure from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has vociferously opposed the underwater pipeline because it would bypass Turkey. Biden’s decision — reportedly coordinated with Turkey but reached without consulting Israel, Greece or Cyprus, the main countries involved in the project — undercuts three of the strongest American allies in the Mediterranean region. #AmnestyInternational leader #Callamard obsesses on Israel “while she’s known to be closely affiliated with terror-linked individuals”

STOP ANTISEMITISM NOW
Antisemite of the Week: Agnés Callamard
Amnesty International’s Sham

February 12, 2022

Agnés Callamard is the Secretary-General of Amnesty International, a British-based NGO that claims to campaign for human rights for all. Under Callamard’s leadership, Amnesty’s mission has morphed into a witch-hunt against the world’s sole Jewish nation, the State of Israel. When confronted with the fact that the organization not only ignores but also promotes antisemitism, it outrageously stated “we can’t campaign on everything” despite the fact that they found time to issue a 100-page report on Islamophobia. Callamard’s atrocious obsession with demonizing the Jewish state extends to spreading lies about Israel such as alleging it was involved in the death of PLO leader, Yasser Arafat. READ MORE

“The normalization of ties with Israel paved the way for Sudan to reintegrate into the international community”

WASHINGTON POST
Sudan’s top general lauds recent ties with former foe Israel
by Samy Magdy
February 12, 2022

Sudan’s top general has lauded recent ties with Israel, saying that intelligence sharing between the two former adversaries helped arrest suspected militants in his country. The two countries normalized relations late in 2020 as part of a series of U.S.-brokered deals between Israel and four Arab countries. Israel and Sudan have since crafted security and intelligence relationships that have seen officials exchange meetings repeatedly in unannounced trip. Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, head of the ruling Sovereign Council, said exchange of intelligence has enabled Sudan to dismantle and arrest suspected militant groups in Sudan that “could have undermined the security of Sudan and the region.” READ MORE

‘No Place for Hateful Ideologies’: Israel Welcomes Australia’s Move to Fully List Hamas as Terror Group
by Sharon Wrobel
February 17, 2022

Israeli top officials welcomed the Australian government’s intention to list the whole of the Palestinian Hamas group as a terrorist organization, calling the move a “meaningful step.” Announcing the move on Thursday, Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews stated that the “views of Hamas and the violent extremist groups listed today are deeply disturbing, and there is no place in Australia for their hateful ideologies.” “It is vital that our laws target not only terrorist acts and terrorists, but also the organizations that plan, finance and carry out these acts,” she said.
