He grew up as an observant Jewish African-American boy in Philadelphia. He played basketball professionally, and after visiting Israel on Taglit-Birthright Israel, he decided to make aliyah – immigrate to Israel and make it his home. Yet Jared Armstrong had no idea that he was in for a roller-coaster of bureaucracy from the Israeli government. It decided that even though he went through a Conservative conversion, he was not eligible to make aliyah. Recently, Armstrong has launched a campaign, trying to make his point that he should be allowed to become an Israeli citizen…He explained, “I grew up an observant Jew. A senior Turkish delegation visited Israel on Thursday in preparation for President Isaac Herzog’s upcoming visit to Turkey as the two countries work to improve long-strained ties. The delegation, which was hosted at the Foreign Ministry and the President’s Residence, was headed by Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman and senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Deputy Foreign Minister Sadat Onal. They met with Foreign Ministry Director-General Alon Ushpiz and Director-General of the President’s Office Eyal Shviki. If the 280-page report published by Amnesty International accusing Israel of ‘apartheid’ was a person, we’d say that he doesn’t have an honest bone in his body. Whilst both the Economist and Freedom House have assessed the Jewish state as a liberal democracy, with the former ranking Israel’s democracy score higher than even the United States, Amnesty, like other so-called human rights organizations which have embraced the radical left’s malign obsession with Israel, offered what can fairly be described as a conclusion in search of evidence…In fact, as CAMERA has noted, searching for the words “terror” or “bombing” or “suicide” or “stab” or “stabbing” reveals that in the entire 280-page report there is not a single mention of any particular Palestinian terrorist attack against Israelis. A recent Heritage Foundation study found strong anti-Israel bias in the social media posts of “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” (DEI) officials at colleges and universities throughout the United States. These officials criticize Israel far more frequently and far more severely than they do China. Their posts about Israel exceed those mentioning China by a factor of three, and almost all of their statements about Israel express condemnation, whereas nearly two-thirds of their comments on China convey praise. These disturbing findings should surprise no one. U.S. campuses have become hotbeds of hostility toward the state of Israel as well as toward the idea of American exceptionalism, and in the radical religion of the campus, far-left professors are the priests and DEI officers are the choir. The Chicago Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly yelled “all of you should be killed” to a Jewish teacher and her students at the Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi Academy on January 13. The police described the man: “Black man, 40 to 49 years old, 6 feet tall, with black hair, mustache and beard, wearing a dark knit cap, black coat, white hooded sweater and dark pants.” West Ridge is a neighborhood on the North Side of Chicago. …The upshot is that I no longer have any difficulty understanding why many young Jews and Christians in the U.S. are starting to distance themselves from Israel. They have been bullied and intimidated into remaining silent. When that crowd shouted “Zionist go home,” they were sending a message to anyone, Jew or otherwise, who would dare to speak in defense of the Jewish state in their presence. But it won’t end with Jews or Israel. Just as lies about Israeli use of force against the Palestinians have been used to portray the Jewish state as an evil country with no right to exist, lies about American history have been used to justify the same message about the United States, with terrible effect.
