Illinois divests from Unilever over Ben and Jerry’s Israel boycott

An Illinois board overseeing state employee pension funds voted to bar funds from holding Unilever PLC shares due to the company’s Ben & Jerry’s ice cream brand forbidding sales in Judea and Samaria, joining at least five other US states moving to restrict the stock. A representative for the Illinois Investment Policy Board (IIPB) said that it voted 7-0 at a meeting on Wednesday “to add Unilever to its prohibited entity list,” following similar moves by other states including New York and New Jersey. An exact value of Unilever shares that state funds must now sell, if they own them, was not immediately available. READ MORE

“Thirty-nine years after the terror attack in the synagogue of Rome, the time has come for us to hear the truth”

Italy to probe claims government enabled 1982 terror attack on Rome synagogue
by Staff
December 16, 2021

An Italian government body that oversees the activities of the country’s intelligence agencies will probe documents published last week that appear to confirm long-held accusations that Italy agreed on a deal not to interfere with Palestinian terror attacks on Jewish targets, including a deadly assault on a Rome synagogue in 1982. The documents showed that Italian intelligence had clear information on the planned attack on the synagogue, in which a 2-year-old boy was killed, but did not stop it, and police even reduced security around the house of worship. Abu Shkhaydam was an Islamic studies teacher at Al-Rashidiyeh Boys’ School in east Jerusalem — he was also a murderer.

GATESTONE
The Palestinian School of Terrorism
by Bassam Tawil
December 22, 2021

A Palestinian teacher and three school children were directly involved in the recent spate of terror attacks against Israelis in Jerusalem and the West Bank. This came as little surprise to those familiar with the ongoing hate and incitement against Israel in Palestinian schools and textbooks, as well as in the media, mosques and university campuses. On November 21, Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, a 42-year-old high school teacher from Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem, shot and killed Eli Kay, a 26-year-old immigrant from South Africa. The shooting attack took place in the Old City of Jerusalem. Four other people were injured before the terrorist was shot dead by police.  That the school is run by (Israel’s) Municipality of Jerusalem did not bother the terrorist, who was later described as a member of Hamas. Abbas’ Advisor: Allah is punishing world with COVID for ignoring Palestinian plight
Nan Jacques Zilberdik
December 17, 2021

The PA is a master of evading responsibility because it is so easy to blame Israel for everything that goes wrong, including the spread of the Coronavirus. In a column in the official PA daily, Muwaffaq Matar, Fatah Revolutionary Council member and regular columnist for the paper accused Israel of deliberately bringing COVID-19 into the PA: “It would not be an exaggeration if we say that the racist occupation government has worked to export the ‘COVID-19’ (Coronavirus) epidemic to us, after our institutions succeeded in limiting and reducing the scope of its spread, as [Israel] used the virus as a new weapon to weaken the scope of economic life to the lowest point, and to leave it in an almost fateful dependency on its economy!”READ MORE

EDLER OF ZIYON Fatah official: Israel infected Palestinians with Covid-19 It is worth repeating that the outrageous part isn’t that some idiot writes something racist. It isn’t even outrageous that the editors of the newspaper have no problem publishing bigotry. The outrageous part is that this pure Jew-hatred is published every day, and there is no Palestinian media that disagrees. There is no debate in Palestinian media about this – Jews are evil, and that is accepted as fact.

Trump and Netanyahu: allies no longer?
December 17, 2021

For both fans and foes of America’s former President Donald Trump and Israel’s former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the two leaders have appeared to share certain features. Foes of both believe that their vainglorious bombast, power-mania and ideological crimes were so egregious that neither of them should ever have occupied high office. Fans of both believe they were virtually the only leaders prepared to confront effectively the west’s most lethal enemies; that they represented the interests of ordinary people against liberal elites threatening their nation from within; and that both were victims of left-wing forces intent on bringing them down. WASHINGTON POST Trump says Jewish Americans ‘don’t like Israel or don’t care about Israel’ Former president Donald Trump claimed in a new episode of a podcast that Jewish people in the United States “don’t like Israel or don’t care about Israel” and that the New York Times “hates Israel” even though “there are Jewish people that run the New York Times.”

JNS Carol Greenwald: Gaslighting Trump The Democratic Party and left-wing media have been engaged in a concerted effort to perpetuate a false narrative about American-Jewish attitudes towards Israel and former U.S. President Donald Trump.

“After gaining control of both houses of Congress and the presidency – with an obsequious media and support of Wall St, Silicon Valley, higher education, pop culture and pro sports – the Left has managed in just 11 months to alienate a majority of voters”

REAL CLEAR POLITICS
Why Is the Left Suddenly Worried About the End of Democracy?
by Victor Davis Hanson
December 16, 2021

What is behind recent pessimistic appraisals of democracy’s future, from Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, Brian Williams and other elite intellectuals, media personalities, and politicians on the Left? Some are warning about its possible erosion in 2024. Others predict democracy’s downturn as early 2022, with scary scenarios of “autocracy” and Trump “coups.” To answer that question, understand first what is not behind these shrill forecasts. They are not worried about 2 million foreign nationals crashing the border in a single year, without vaccinations during a pandemic. Yet it seems insurrectionary for a government simply to nullify its own immigration laws. READ MORE

It is beginning to dawn on the Israelis that when it comes to Iran’s nuclear program, the Jewish state stands alone. Iran reveals “rocket alert” map displaying targets Iran would strike including pins in Lebanese territory and on Palestinian cities

The generals’ belated awakening
by Caroline Glick
December 10, 2021

Something is changing in Israel’s military brass’ assessment of the Iranian nuclear threat. Evidence is growing that members of the IDF General Staff and the Mossad are beginning to realize that the US doesn’t share Israel’s goal of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power. Last week, for instance, Michael Makovsky, head of the Jewish Institute for National Security of America, (JINSA) a Washington-based group that cultivates ties between Israeli and US generals, published an article in the New York Post in which he described their rude awakening. Makovsky wrote, “Recent meetings with senior defense officials from our closest Middle East ally, Israel, were the most pessimistic I can recall. They perceive America as checked out, adrift, pusillanimous, unfeared and desperate to avoid military confrontation, and Iran as emboldened and nearing the nuclear weapons threshold.” READ MORE

Alongside a front-page opinion piece headlined “Just one wrong move!” the map showed scores of markers along the length and breadth of the country.

Taylor Force Act addition seeks to block ‘pay for slay’
by Omri Nahmias
December 8, 2021

A group of 13 Senate Republicans, spearheaded by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), on Monday introduced the “Taylor Force Martyr Payment Prevention Act,” a bill “aimed at eliminating Palestinian ‘martyr payments.’” According to Cotton and his colleagues, banks in “nominally friendly jurisdictions” evade United States anti-terrorism sanctions by avoiding an official presence in the United States “and continue to knowingly provide banking services, including dollar-denominated transactions, for terrorist organizations. “Some Democrats wanted Biden to undo the embassy move, simply because Trump had done it”

BREITBART
Biden Backs Off Palestinian Consulate in Jerusalem
by Joel B. Pollak
December 15, 2021

President Joe Biden is reportedly backing down from plans to open a U.S. consulate in Jerusalem dealing specifically with Palestinians, after ruling into objections from Israel, obstacles in international law, and concerns about Iran nuclear talks. As Breitbart News noted last year, Biden had promised during the 2020 campaign to reopen a consulate in “East Jerusalem,” though the site he was referring to was in western Jerusalem, across from the city’s Independence Park. The building had once served as the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem before President Donald Trump moved the U.S. embassy to the city, located in an existing building in southern Jerusalem, whereupon the consulate was converted into an annex of the U.S. embassy. “If enacted, the bill would create an office to monitor and combat Islamophobia in the State Department—similar to the one that exists for anti-Semitism”

House approves Omar-backed bill to create Islamophobia monitor, despite concerns of targeting Israel
by Dmitriy Shapiro
December 15, 2021

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a bill to create an envoy to monitor and combat Islamophobia on Tuesday in a partisan vote, following a long and vitriolic debate on the House floor. The bill, H.R. 5665, Combating International Islamophobia Act, which was introduced by Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), passed the house by a vote of 219-212, with all Democrats voting for the bill and all Republicans opposing it… Republicans opposed the bill, primarily stating that besides the redundancy it could bring to the State Department, which already has offices to handle issues of religious liberty, Islamophobia is a loosely defined term they fear can be used label legitimate criticism of the actions of Muslims throughout the world. COALITION FOR JEWISH VALUES Omar’s Islamophobia Monitor Will Undercut the Fight Against Anti-Semitism, Encourage Anti-Semites Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, argued that a monitor for Islamophobia would undercut the work of the antisemitism monitor. “To suggest that Islamophobia is on par with antisemitism is to dramatically understate and even trivialize the historic and pervasive nature that makes antisemitism such a difficult problem to overcome,” said Chabot.
