“Israel had warned the US that Iran would use a break in JCPOA talks to advance its nuclear program”

JERUSALEM POST
Gantz: Iran is 10 weeks from breakout to a nuclear weapon
by Lahav Harkov
August 5, 2021

Tehran will be able to break out to a nuclear weapon within 10 weeks, Defense Minister Benny Gantz told diplomats from UN Security Council member states on Wednesday as tensions ratcheted up between Iran and the international community over its maritime attacks. “Iran has violated all of the guidelines set in the JCPOA [nuclear agreement] and is only around 10 weeks away from acquiring weapons-grade materials necessary for a nuclear weapon,” Gantz warned. “Therefore,” he added, “it is time to act. The world must apply economic sanctions and take operative action against the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps,” which has targeted shipping vessels. READ MORE

UK says ‘highly likely’ Iran attacked tanker off Oman
August 1, 2021

Britain on Sunday said it believed Iran carried out an attack on an Israeli-managed petroleum product tanker off the coast of Oman on July 29 that killed a Briton and a Romanian, and said it was working with partners on a “concerted response”. “The UK condemns the unlawful and callous attack committed on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman, which killed a British and a Romanian National,” British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said. “We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran.” READ MORE

To get a sense of just how bad Russia’s sudden about face is for Israel, it’s important to remember what jolted Netanyahu into action six years ago

ISRAEL HAYOM (by agreement with JNS)
How Putin Understands the Lapid-Bennett Government
by Caroline Glick
July 31, 2021

Thursday it was reported that the IDF is planning to change its tactics in Syria and will base its operations against Iranian targets in the area on long-range standoff munitions rather than air strikes. Obviously, the move will downgrade Israel’s operational prowess. The report of Israel’s new policy of restraint followed the big story of the week: Russia’s announcement that it assisted the Syrians in intercepting four missiles shot by IAF F-16s at targets in Syria for the first time. Russia’s statement came in tandem with its announcement that it is abrogating its 2015 agreement with Israel to coordinate and deconflict Israel’s military operations in Syria from Russian forces in the country. There is a glaring problem with Joe Biden’s choice of Deborah Lipstadt: A president who has himself trivialized the Nazi regime to make a partisan political smear appoints as his anti-Semitism envoy the person who defended him in making the repugnant comment.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
Deborah Lipstadt Should be Voted Down
by Jackson Richman
August 3, 2021

…Donald Trump lied inexcusably. But that lying was nothing remotely close to stirring up anti-Jewish animus and an eventual genocide. Such a comparison disrespects the memory of the Holocaust and those who perished and survived, including my grandparents. In December, ahead of the Georgia Senate runoffs, Lipstadt gave a pass to Democrat Raphael Warnock for his history of antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment and activity. Yet, Lipstadt criticized incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler for her friendship with the far-right, now-Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. READ MORE

JNS Melanie Phillips: Envoy will first need to root out anti-Semitism in the Democratic Party Such jarring double standards and partisan judgments have provoked concern that despite her acknowledgment that “some people on the progressive left” indulge “the anti-Semitism of others,” Lipstadt is afflicted by the myopia through which anti-Semitism is viewed as overwhelmingly associated with Nazi supporters and white supremacists.

24-year-old Artem Dolgopyat: “The artistic gymnast who soared to the second gold in Israeli Olympic history keeps his feet firmly on the ground amid national euphoria”

Israel’s modest gold medalist: Artem Dolgopyat proves a disarming Olympic hero
by David Horovitz
August 1, 2021

Artem Dolgopyat, Israel’s first gold winner of the Tokyo Olympics, and only its second gold medal winner ever, must be one of the most modest individuals ever to step onto the top level of the Olympic podium. When the last of his rivals had completed his routine in the artistic gymnastics floor exercise on Sunday, and it became clear that he had won the gold, Dolgopyat wrapped himself in an Israeli flag and raised a fist in celebration, but he did so gently, almost embarrassedly. This was no “I’m the best in the world” swaggering fist pump. There was no victory scream, no dance of celebration, at the achievement of a lifetime — a victory he has worked toward since he started gymnastics at age 6, prompted by his gymnast father. Former Ben & Jerry’s employee details efforts to away company on Israel decision

by Shiryn Ghermezian
July 27, 2021

An ex-employee of Ben & Jerry’s who left the company after it announced that it was ending sales in the West Bank elaborated on her efforts to dissuade the ice cream maker from boycotting Israel. For 21 years, graphic designer Susannah Levin worked exclusively as a contractor for the ice cream company in their design department. She told StandWithUs during a virtual event on Sunday that when the company went silent on social media during the Israel-Hamas conflict in May, she began asking questions at work and was granted permission by the public relations department to listen to a company meeting on the subject, where she learned that Ben & Jerry’s was considering divesting from the West Bank. August 4, 2021

In a crowded primary race for a vacant US seat in the Democratic enclave of Ohio’s 11th District, local establishment Democrat Shontel Brown was battling progressive Nina Turner. With 53.8% of precincts reporting, the pro-Israel Brown was ahead, 50.4% to 43.8% for Turner…Brown emphasized her support for Biden’s administration, and Brown’s supporters highlighted Turner’s past criticism of the president. Turner was the co-chair of Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign; last year she compared voting for Democratic President Joe Biden to eating excrement. READ MORE

“Amid an alarming spike in antisemitism, JewBelong pivots to garner mainstream support, but critics say the organization’s eye-catching billboards largely resonate with donors”

Campaign hopes to fight US Jew-hatred with shocking ads, but who’s reading them?
by Eliyahu Kamisher
July 31, 2021

Dozens of hot-pink billboards and transit ads have appeared in major American cities over the last month, referencing the Holocaust and antisemitism. “We’re just 75 years since the gas chambers. So no, a billboard calling out Jew hate isn’t an overreaction,” reads one. “Being woke and antisemitic is like being a vegan who eats veal,” reads another. The ads are the brainchild of JewBelong, a New Jersey-based nonprofit whose stated mission is to “rebrand Judaism” with a hip, made-for-social-media bent. But now JewBelong is going through a rebrand of its own. READ MORE

Elon Gold dishes on Jackie Mason, COVID-19 and why Jews are so nervous
by Alan Zeitlin
August 1, 2021

…“Jackie Mason was the Sinatra of comedy,” Gold told JNS by phone. “There will never be another. He was a trailblazer. He was not afraid of his Judaism. I heard he was once told, ‘You’ll be a big movie star if you tone it down.’ He’s the opposite of that yenta [Julia Haart] on ‘My Unorthodox Life.’ He stayed true to himself…As for the infamous scandal when Mason supposedly gave the middle finger to Ed Sullivan and was banned for 20 years from the show, many I’ve asked said they weren’t sure if Mason really gave the middle finger to the host, who motioned that Mason only had two minutes left for his act. “I think he did,” Gold said of the middle finger.  READ MORE
