Bret Stephens on Iran Deal: Further proof that “Iran was in violation of the nuclear deal from the moment it was signed”

NEW YORK TIMES
What Was Iran Hiding in a Warehouse in Turquz Abad?
by Bret Stephens
Sept 5, 2019

Reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency don’t usually make for riveting reading, so you may have missed last Friday’s latest, soporifically headlined “Verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council resolution 2231 (2015).” Don’t be fooled. Buried in the report are two oblique sentences hinting at a mystery about which you may soon hear a great deal. READ MORE

Miriam Adelson, the publisher of free daily Israel Hayom, told police that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara repeatedly contacted her about how they were being covered in the paper, according to leaked transcripts aired by Channel 12 News on Thursday. Adelson, the wealthiest women in Israel and wife of American casino magnate Sheldon, said that Sara Netanyahu “once told me that if Iran gets nuclear weapons and Israel is wiped out, I’ll be to blame because I’m not defending Bibi,” referring to Benjamin Netanyahu by his nickname. “Legendary Israeli agent Eli Cohen embedded himself into the upper crust of Syrian society, providing intelligence to the Jewish state crucial to its victory in 1967’s Six Day War”

The real story behind ‘The Spy,’ Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Netflix series
by Josefin Dolsten
September 6, 2019

For “Borat,” his 2006 film, Sacha Baron Cohen went undercover as a made-up Kazakh journalist who travels America and gets unwitting targets to share his boorish and sometimes bigoted opinions. In his television series “Who Is America,” the Jewish actor creates a variety of characters who manage to get prominent Americans to say shockingly offensive things. In “The Spy,” he once again goes undercover, but in a very different way. The actor and filmmaker portrays the real-life Eli Cohen, a daring Israeli agent who embedded himself in the upper echelons of Syrian society in the 1960s and provided crucial intelligence to the Jewish state. An Iran story the media has little interest in reporting: “Barack Obama eventually fired the storied Marine general for what Mattis believes were his insistent warnings about the Iranian threat”

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
‘Act of war’: Mattis says Obama’s inept response to Cafe Milano bomb plot ’emboldened’ Iran
by Kelly Jane Torrance
September 4, 2019

Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says he predicted years ago that Iran would escalate its provocations against the United States — and he partly blames the Obama administration’s anemic reaction to an Iranian plot to bomb a restaurant in Washington, D.C…“Had the bomb gone off, those in the restaurant and on the street would have been ripped apart, blood rushing down sewer drains. It would have been the worst attack on us since 9/11…Mattis says his reaction to the Cafe Milano bomb plot contributed towards Obama’s decision to fire him abruptly. READ MORE

PJ MEDIA Mattis: Obama Failed to Respond to Iran Bomb Plot on U.S. Soil Because of Nuclear Deal In response to the [DC restaurant bombing] plot, Mattis believed a forceful reaction was necessary. “I believed we had to respond forcefully. My military options would raise the cost for this attack beyond anything the mullahs and the Qods generals could pay.” But, Obama wasn’t interested. “We treated an act of war as a law enforcement violation, jailing the low-level courier.” Why didn’t Obama want a forceful response to the act of war by Iran? His secret nuclear deal.

POWERLINE Obama Swept Iran Terror Plot Under the Rug Within the Obama administration, Mattis argued forcefully that the president needed to inform the public of this act of war and mobilize opinion in favor of strong action against Iran. But his advice went unheeded.

VDH: New alliances with Arab nations are positive but unstable, and old enemies are most dangerous when in a weakened state

NATIONAL REVIEW
Israel’s Good and Bad New Realities
by Victor Davis Hanson
September 3, 2019

…Indeed, if there exists a continuing strategic threat to Israel from the Arab world, it will be its increasing pressure on the Jewish state to get into a one-on-one fight with Iran. The Arabs could then play the role of Joseph Stalin from 1939 to 1941, when he gleefully saw the western campaigns of his new partner of convenience, Hitler, as a win-win that would weaken both the double-dealing Nazis on his new Polish border and the hated capitalists of the Western democracies. A second reason for the Middle East’s realignment is that the U.S. is now the world’s largest producer — and soon exporter — of oil and gas, making it more or less immune to Arab strategic pressures. In remembering 1929 Hebron massacre, top Israeli leaders visit…and make history
by Josh Hasten
September 4, 2019

“We are not strangers in Hebron, and we will stay here forever!” were the climactic remarks made on Wednesday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during an official state ceremony at the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs in Hebron commemorating the 90th anniversary of the 1929 Jewish massacre. Netanyahu also said that he was proud that his government approved dozens of additional housing units last year for Jewish residents of the ancient city.
