NEW YORK TIMES
A Grotesque Spectacle in Jerusalem
by Michelle Goldberg
May 14, 2018

From the second paragraph, you see where this train wreck is headedThe [Jerusalem embassy opening] event was grotesque. It was a consummation of the cynical alliance between hawkish Jews and Zionist evangelicals who believe that the return of Jews to Israel will usher in the apocalypse and the return of Christ, after which Jews who don’t convert will burn forever….This spectacle, geared toward Donald Trump’s Christian American base, coincided with a massacre about 40 miles away…The juxtaposition of images of dead and wounded Palestinians and Ivanka Trump smiling in Jerusalem like a Zionist Marie Antoinette tell us a lot about America’s relationship to Israel right now. JERUSALEM POST
Guatemalan president arrives to reopen embassy in Jerusalem
by Herb Keinon
May 16, 2018

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales arrived in Israel on Tuesday to take part in the official reopening of the Central American country’s embassy in Jerusalem’s Malha Technology Park on Wednesday. Guatemala had an embassy in Jerusalem until 1980…Mattanya Cohen, Israel’s ambassador to Guatemala and Honduras, said in a Kan Bet interview that Guatemala has a tradition of friendship for Israel that goes back to efforts by Jorge Garcia Granados, the country’s ambassador to the UN at the time, to push for acceptance of the Partition Plan in 1947. JNS Embassies to Jerusalem, the dawn of a new era The significance of this move can hardly be overstated. It is a significant shift in the discourse of the Middle East. For the past 70 years, the Arabs were accustomed to the fact that there is no price to pay for their violating international law and employing military aggression against Israel.

TIMES OF ISRAEL Chuck Schumer ‘applauds’ Trump for opening Jerusalem embassy Though not a single Democratic member of Congress attended the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem on Monday, and most objected to the move as harming the prospects for a two-state solution, the Democratic Senate leader praised the US president for following through on his campaign promise.

JERUSALEM POST Christian supporters made the embassy move to Jerusalem possible But this historic turning point in Israeli history could also not have taken place without the critical involvement of another group – evangelical Christians in America.

NATIONAL REVIEW The Blood Isn’t on Trump’s Hands The talking heads on CNN and MSNBC were out in force this week, furiously blaming the president not only for the dozens killed in violence at the border between Israel and Gaza but also for killing the peace process. His decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital in Jerusalem was slammed not merely as an obstacle to peace but for setting in motion a series of events that led to Palestinians’ getting killed

Diaspora Jews on Gaza: Stop telling us how ashamed you are

TIMES OF ISRAEL
What I hear when I hear Diaspora Jews on Gaza
by Hen Mazzig
May 15, 2018

As a Jew I am ashamed of myself today. I understand that I have no military or security experience, but is this the only way to stop tens of thousands of people and terrorists trying to cross a border of a country? I know that if it was in any other country we would have seen many more casualties. I know that my country, for instance, would have carpet bombed the border and killed everyone that tried to break through, but it is Israel that I am ashamed of. Although my country has secure borders and I have nothing to worry about except whether or not Starbucks will have my almond milk latte, I can still judge. I can tell you we should be ashamed of Israel today. READ MORE

ALGEMEINER Editorial: Gaza ‘Peaceful Protests’ Are ‘Orchestrated Tactical Operations’ by Hamas Against Israel, Says UK Military Expert “In reality these demonstrations are far from peaceful, but are carefully planned and orchestrated tactical operations by a terrorist organization intending to break through the border of a sovereign state and commit mass murder in the communities beyond, using their own civilians as cover”

MELANIE PHILLIPS BLOG Who’s responsible for these Gaza deaths? The Hamas and their western media enablers The people who caused these deaths are the Hamas themselves. But the people at whose door these dead Arabs should also be laid are the BBC and those in the rest of the British and other media who have acted their part in the script the Hamas has written

Iran Says US Diplomats Were Bribed To Pass Deal , IAEA Chief Suddenly Quits
by Jared Evan
May 14, 2018

An adviser to H.J.Ansari Zarif, the deputy for parliamentary and Iranian affairs within Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specifically threatened to expose every corrupt official who accepted bribes to make the Iran deal happen three years ago, while the chief of inspections at the UN nuclear watchdog agency resigned suddenly, the agency said on Friday without giving a reason, according to Reuters. “If Europeans stop trading with Iran and don’t put pressure on US then we will reveal which western politicians and how much money they had received during nuclear negotiations to make #IranDeal happen.” READ MORE

ALGEMEINER ‘Hatchet Job’ Profile of Iran-Deal Critic Gets His Hair, Suit, Pay Wrong  A New York Times profile of a prominent critic of the Iran nuclear deal is being condemned as a “hit piece.” The profile describes the chief executive of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Mark Dubowitz, as someone who “wears tailored French suits and keeps his curly hair just so.”

AL JAZEERA UN nuclear watchdog chief inspector Tero Varjoranta resigns

AMERICAN THINKER Top Iranian adviser threatens to expose those who took bribes to make the Iran deal happen. I don’t want to disillusion readers, but bribery is not exactly unknown in the Middle East, even among government officials.  It is now established by documents captured after the fall of Baghdad that Saddam Hussein bribed French, Russian, and Chinese officials.

“The Arab League’s April 10, 1948 decision to invade Israel and “save Palestine,” marked a watershed event, for it changed the rules of the conflict”

MYTHS AND FACTS
Nakba: The Arab Self-Inflicted Catastrophe
by Eli Hertz
May 15, 2018

…It was a conflict between two national or ethnic groups. Palestinian Arabs represented one side in the conflict – the side responsible for starting the war. By their own behavior, Palestinians assumed the role of belligerents in the conflict, invalidating any claim to be hapless victims. Explains scholar Benny Morris: “One of the characteristics of the Palestinian national movement has been the Palestinians’ view of themselves as perpetual victims of others: Ottoman Turks, British officials, Zionists, Americans.” Arabs never recognize that they are victims of their own doing. Israel Has the Right and Obligation to Defend Its Border with Deadly Force: Would you let people who want to kill you into your home?
by David French
May 15, 2018

One of the enduring mysteries of modern political discourse is the way in which smart people — who are not remotely anti-Semitic — impose curious, unworkable double standards on the nation of Israel. Let’s take, for example, the response of many on the left to the so-called Great Return March, an effort by thousands of Gazans to storm the Israeli border. After all, the international legal standards are clear. A nation has the right to protect the integrity of its border, and that right is supplemented by an inherent right of self-defense in the face of a hostile foreign powerREAD MORE

… Republicans aren’t the only ones who admire [Netanyau]. World leaders from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chinese Premier Xi Jinping welcome him to their capitals like a visiting monarch. Sandwiched between two major Israeli air assaults on Iranian military assets in Syria Tuesday and Wednesday night, Netanyahu flew to Moscow. He stood next to Putin in Red Square as the Red Army Band played “Hativka” during the parade marking the 73rd anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany. READ MORE

by David Rosenberg

Israel gained support from an unexpected source Thursday for its recent airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria, after Iranian forces fired 20 rockets at Israeli territory Wednesday night. Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Foreign Minister of the Gulf Arab state Bahrain, tweeted support for Israel and endorsed the Jewish state’s right to self-defense. “As long as Iran has breached the status quo in the region and invaded countries with its forces and missiles, so any state in the region, including Israel, is entitled to defend itself by destroying sources of danger.” READ MORE

Dershowitz attacks NBC hit piece on John Bolton and Gatestone Institute

GATESTONE
NBC’s Demonization of Bolton and Gatestone
by Alan M. Dershowitz
May 10, 2018

…Today a similar tactic of defamatory character assassination against people with whom one disagrees, particularly conservatives, is being employed by elements of the left, including some in the mainstream media. Consider the recent attack by Heidi Przybyla of NBC News against the recently appointed National Security Advisor, Ambassador John Bolton, and an organization whose board he chaired before that, Gatestone Institute. The headline of the hit piece is: “John Bolton chaired anti-Muslim think tank.” Nothing could be further from the truth. READ MORE

NATIONAL REVIEW
Israel Shows America How to Deal with Iran
by David French
May 10, 2018

One of the great and enduring mysteries of American foreign policy is the ongoing, bipartisan tolerance for Iranian efforts to kill Americans by the hundreds. Iran has been waging an undeclared war against the United States since the Hostage Crisis of 1979–1981. Its hostile acts against the United States are almost too numerous to list, but the lowlights include the Beirut Marine barracks bombing, the Khobar Towers bombing, a successful Quds Force plot to kidnap and kill American soldiers in Iraq, and the hundreds of American deaths and injuries due to Iranian-designed and -supplied explosively formed penetrators, the most deadly form of IED in Iraq.
