The decision marks a resolution to tensions that surged in 2020 when JCPA was among 600 Jewish groups to sign onto a full-page New York Times ad declaring “Black Lives Matter”

Seeking latitude to press liberal causes, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs distances itself from federations
Ron Kampeas
December 19, 2022

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the onetime standard-bearer for outreach to the non-Jewish world whose influence has waned, is loosening its financial and organizational ties to the Jewish Federations of North America in a bid to reassert its traditional role. The decision to go it alone, announced Monday in a press release and a two-page brochure that will go out to Jewish organizations, will free the JCPA to pursue liberal agenda items that are favored by American Jews but can alienate or unsettle donors to the federation system who are more conservative or at least more cautious about maintaining an appearance of being nonpartisan. It’s not enough that the New York Times buried the Holocaust stories and libels Israel regularly

NEW YORK POST
New York Times slammed over ‘swastika’ crossword on first day of Hanukkah: ‘Disgusting’
Ben Cost
December 19, 2022

The New York Times is being ripped by social media users for publishing what they deemed a swastika-shaped crossword puzzle on the first night of Hanukkah. The fraught Sunday brain-teaser, titled “Some Theme’s Missing,” had been concocted by Washington, DC-based consulting manager Ryan McCarty, who has formulated 22 other puzzles for the paper. “Thrilled to have my first Sunday puzzle in The Times! This grid features one of my favorite open middles that I’ve made as it pulls from a variety of subject areas,” McCarty gushed in a section of the paper titled Constructor Notes. He wrote that he’d “originally tried to make it work in a 15×15 grid but then decided to expand the grid out to a Sunday-size puzzle with a fun whirlpool shape.” READ MORE

JNS Netanyahu slams Holocaust-burying New York Times for demonizing Israel “After burying the Holocaust for years on its back pages and demonizing Israel for decades on its front pages, the New York Times now shamefully calls for undermining Israel’s elected incoming government,” says the prime minister-designate.

Stanford’s “Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative” aims to educate people about the impact that ‘racist, violent and biased’ words have

American, grandfather, brave and master: Words Stanford University includes in its index of ‘harmful language’ because they are ‘ableist, sexist or racist’
Jessica Warren
December 20, 2022

Stanford University has published an index of ‘harmful language’ that it wants to eliminate because the terms are ‘ableist, ageist or racist‘ — including the word American — as it calls for US citizen to be used instead. The University revealed the plan in May, and wants to remove the words from its IT systems and websites, with grandfather, brave and master are also on the list…Elsewhere it also asks for the term ‘abort’ to be changed to ‘end’ or ‘cancel’, instead of linking it to abortion. The site also suggests replacing ‘Karen’ with ‘demanding or entitled White woman’, while a ‘child prostitute’ could be changed to a ‘child who has been trafficked’. READ MORE

Netanyahu on coalition partners: ‘They are joining me, I’m not joining them’

Bills advance to enable ministries for Smotrich, Deri
December 15, 2022

Bills to allow religious lawmakers Bezalel Smotrich and Aryeh Deri passed early Friday on their first readings in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. The bills amend Israel’s Basic Laws, which act as the country’s constitution, aimed at enabling the lawmakers to take office as desired ministers as part of coalition agreements with prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu. While these bills have raised protest among opposition leaders, the 63-52 vote foreshadows the right-wing and religious ministers getting what they want. Politicians convicted in the past seven years cannot currently serve as ministers. Deri, the head of Israel’s Sephardic religious Shas party, earlier this year admitted to minor tax offenses in exchange for a suspended sentence of one year…READ MORE

The State of the Black-Jewish Relationship in America
Bari Weiss
December 11, 2022

Last month, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was all over the internet with his conspiratorial, antisemitic tirades. Most recently, he went on Alex Jones’s InfoWars show with White Nationalist Nick Fuentes and said things like, “I love Nazis” and “I see good things about Hitler.” I wish it was just that…But what’s happened over the last month isn’t about one celebrity or basketball player. As Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and I talked about recently, the antisemitic ideas we’ve seen in the news lately are not new in America. Including among Black Americans. On the latest episode of Honestly, we put together a roundtable to discuss the history and state of of Black-Jewish relations in America with guests Chloe ValdaryBret StephensEli Lake and Kmele Foster. It’s clear that #JStreet isn’t “Jewish” or “pro-Israel,” it exists solely to elect and defend #Democrats

Why is J Street defending Congress’ worst antisemite?
Moshe Hill
December 14, 2022

J Street, a far-left organization that has done more to turn Israel into a partisan issue than any other, has joined other anti-Israel Jewish groups in an attempt to browbeat Kevin McCarthy—likely to be the next speaker of the House—into not kicking virulent antisemite Rep. Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This is in keeping with J Street’s plan to make Israel less safe and turn it into a wedge issue. First, let’s examine why and under what precedent McCarthy will make this decision. The precedent was set by outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who removed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments due to comments Greene made years before she was elected. READ MORE

In Qatar, the World Got a Rare Glimpse of Israel’s Existence Amidst a Sea of Hostility

World Cup Showcases Qatari Hostility to Israel — A Festival of Hatred
Hussein Aboubakr Mansour
December 1, 2022

…Israeli broadcaster Raz Shechnick has some of the worst moments during this festival of hatred. In multiple segments, he was yelled at and threatened by fans. In one video, he even screamed, “we are from Ecuador,” to avoid further hostilities. On his Twitter feed, he wrote a long emotional thread about his shock at the experience, saying that he had always been a leftist from the peace camp, but this experience made him doubt what he thought he knew about the Middle East. But it wasn’t just the fans; local businesses also treated Israelis harshly. Another Israeli reporter wrote of one incident when one restaurant owner, after finding out he was Israeli, made the security escort him out of the establishment, took his phone, and deleted the pictures he took of the food. Condé Nast Traveler: Galilee is a top destination for 2023
Abigail Klein Leichman
December 12, 2022

Israel’s Galilee region ranks in fifth place on the Condé Nast Traveler list of 23 best places to go in 2023. Editor Debra Kamin recommends the northern area for its “charming boutique hotels, vineyards and improved connectivity.” “For decades, food and wine aficionados from Tel Aviv have been making the windy drive north to Israel’s Galilee region, where the landscape unfolds into lush green hills and valleys. For locals, this fertile corner filled with fruit farms, organic dairies, and family-run wineries, has long been revered as Israel’s own Tuscany,” she writes. “And now, international tourists are discovering the region’s bounty as well: A flurry of new boutique hotels have opened over the past year.” READ MORE

An American Philosopher’s Defense Of Israel, Jews, And Jewish Civilization
December 15, 2022

In this episode, Jason offers a radical defense of Israel, the Jewish people, and what he terms “the superior nature of Jewish civilization.” Jason explains why we should reject the term “settlers,” and replace it with “noble pioneers”—and why “occupied territory” is an illegitimate term. He also provides a vehement defense for Israel’s right to annex Judea and Samaria, and closes with an endearing and inspiring letter to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

THE FEDERALIST Jason Hill: The Moral Case For Israel Annexing The West Bank—And Beyond Israel made an altruistic mistake toward the Palestinian people after the 1967 defensive war with Jordan. Rather than regard them as “war settlers” or refugees or, after legally occupying conquered territory, as “illegal occupants,” they made the Palestinian people their political and moral problem.

As Antisemitism Surges, Mehdi Hasan Guest Blames Jews
David Litman
December 7, 2022

On Sunday, December 4, the Mehdi Hasan Show on MSNBC reached a new low when one of Mehdi’s guests argued that Jews promote antisemitism to advance “Israeli Zionist ideology.” Responding to Mehdi’s question, “Have you been surprised at the speed with which antisemitism has become publicized, mainstreamed, normalized on the right,” guest Eric Alterman, a professor at City University of New York, responded: “What’s so interesting is the marriage between pro-Israel sentiment and antisemitism. The alt-right is very pro-Israel because they like the fact that Israel kicks Muslim ass. They also like the idea that Richard Spencer has said ‘I’m a Zionist,’ because I want all the Jews to go to Israel so we have a good Christian country here. READ MORE
