#BariWeiss: “We are living through an epidemic of cowardice. The antidote is courage”

Some Thoughts About Courage
by Bari Weiss
October 19, 2021

Why have things come so undone? And what can we do to rebuild them? Those are the questions, more than any others, that I’ve been turning over in my mind over the past year and they are the subject of an essay I just published in Commentary Magazine.  Its headline: “We Got Here Because of Cowardice. Courage Is What Gets Us Out.” If you read this newsletter — and if you are new here, welcome! — you are by now quite familiar with the features of the great unraveling. The politicization of everything. The re-racialization of everyone. The demonization of those with a different perspective. The forced conformity…The betrayal of liberalism by the institutions meant to uphold it…The replacement of forgiveness and mercy with perpetual punishment. READ MORE

Hamas holds conference to plan for which Jews they will murder once Israel is destroyed; entrapping others to prevent a “brain-drain”

MEMRI
Hamas-Sponsored ‘Promise Of The Hereafter’ Conference For The Phase Following The Liberation Of Palestine And Israel’s ‘Disappearance’
October 4, 2021

…The conference also recommended that rules be drawn up for dealing with “Jews” in the country, including defining which of them will be killed or subjected to legal prosecution and which will be allowed to leave or to remain and be integrated into the new state. It also called for preventing a brain drain of Jewish professionals, and for the retention of “educated Jews and experts in the areas of medicine, engineering, technology, and civilian and military industry… [who] should not be allowed to leave.” Additionally, it recommended obtaining lists of “the agents of the occupation in Palestine, in the region, and [throughout] the world, and… the names of the recruiters, Jewish and non-Jewish, in the country and abroad” in order to “purge Palestine and the Arab and Islamic homeland of this hypocrite scum.” READ MORE

“The AP’s report on the discovery of a First Temple era toilet omits Jewish references, while a NY Times Rosh Hashanah recipe evokes ‘Canaanites,’ not Israelites”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
Flushing the Israel out of ancient Israel
by Tamar Sternthal
October 10, 2021

News headlines last week reported on the rare archeological find of a private Kingdom of Judah-era toilet discovered in the remains of a luxurious mansion in Jerusalem. Haaretz noted the presence of dozens of bowls around the ancient lavatory, about which an Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) official speculated: “they held air freshener, an aromatic oil or incense – anything to make use of the facility less onerous”….While aromatic oil might have done the olfactory trick in the First Temple-period bathroom, all the fragrant incense in ancient Judah can’t conceal the stench of media reports that erase the long, rich Jewish history of ancient Israel. On Tuesday, the seventh day of the Hebrew month of Cheshvan, Israel celebrated Aliyah Day

JEWISH PRESS
Israelis to Celebrate Biblical Ingathering, on Aliyah Day
by Hana Levi Julian
October 11, 2021

On Tuesday, the seventh day of the Hebrew month of Cheshvan, the nation of Israel will celebrate Aliyah Day. It is not by chance that the day falls on that date, says Yishai Fleisher, international spokesperson for the Hebron Jewish community and also the person who invented the holiday…When Fleisher wrote the law for the Knesset, together with then-MK Yaakov “Ketzaleh” Katz he says, “We were hoping that this would be something that would also be celebrated in the Diaspora, a focal point for schools to celebrate immigration to Israel. Aliyah is a continuing battle; we wanted a reason for people to discuss it, to bring it up and to remember there is a continuing yearning for Eretz Israel.” READ MORE

“The fact that a large number of Palestinians are desperate to work in Israel is a sign of the failure of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority to improve the living conditions of their people”

GATESTONE
Why Palestinians Prefer To Work In Israel
by Khaled Abu Toameh
October 13, 2021

Palestinians in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip are excited. Israeli authorities have decided to allow thousands of them to work in Israel. The news about the Israeli decision spread like wildfire, prompting tens of thousands of Palestinians to converge on the offices of the chambers of commerce throughout the Gaza Strip in the hope of obtaining a permit to work in Israel. The scenes of Palestinian scrambling to receive permits to work in Israel have angered and embarrassed many Palestinians and Arabs, many of whom believe that Palestinian leaders are not doing enough to end the suffering of the Palestinians. Gilad Erdan blasts co-founders of ice cream maker over Axios interview. “Demanding from Israel what is demanded from no other country is the definition of antisemitism”

BLOOMBERG
Israeli Envoy Criticizes Ben & Jerry’s Founders Over Boycott
by Augusta Saraiva and Alisa Odenheimer
October 12, 2021

The Israeli ambassador to the U.S. accused Ben & Jerry’s co-founders of “helping the antisemites” following an interview in which they defended the company’s decision to not sell its ice cream in the country’s occupied Palestinian territory. Gilad Erdan, the envoy to the U.S. and the United Nations, said the “ignorance and hypocrisy” toward Israel demonstrated during the interview aired Oct. 10 on HBO is “an outrage.”… “Part of the definition of antisemitism is precisely to demand from Israel what is not demanded of any other entity in the world,” Erdan said in a statement Monday. “Ben and Jerry have no problem with their ice cream being sold to supporters of terrorism, and yet they are boycotting Israel.” READ MORE

Memo to Rooney, the BDS’er : “Boycotting the Hebrew language — spoken by millions of Jews worldwide — has nothing to do with Palestine. It’s just racism”

NEW YORK POST
Sally Rooney reportedly banning new novel from being translated to Hebrew
By Lee Brown
October 12, 2021

It girl novelist Sally Rooney has reportedly refused to allow her new novel to be published in Hebrew because she supports a boycott of Israel. The acclaimed Irish novelist turned down Modan, the Israeli publisher that translated her previous books, because of her outspoken views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Haaretz reported. “When Modan approached Rooney’s agent in an attempt to sign another translation deal, the agent announced that Rooney supports the cultural boycott movement on Israel and therefore does not approve translation into Hebrew,” Haaretz reported as an addendum to its reprint of an interview Rooney gave last month.  READ MORE

MELANIE PHILLIPS BLOG Sally Rooney’s very ugly world The Irish novelist’s anti-Israel bigotry has a particular cultural context… The situation is horrific at the political level, horrific at the academic level and horrific at the street level. It is almost impossible to overstate how toxic the situation in Ireland has become.

“Traditionalists chafe at the contemporary-art approach to Holocaust commemoration being employed at Babyn Yar, a site of mass shootings in World War II. But it has brought visitors for an anniversary”

NEW YORK TIMES
A Tech-Savvy Holocaust Memorial in Ukraine Draws Critics and Crowds
by Maria Varenikova and Andrew E. Kramer
October 8, 2021

An advertisement on the Ukrainian-language version of Tinder, the online dating platform, offered a not-so-romantic experience. “Touch the tragedy of Babyn Yar,” the ad suggested, urging users to learn more about one of the largest mass shootings of Jews in World War II, at a site in Kyiv. The pitch was hardly an outlier. As Ukraine this week marks the 80th anniversary of the massacre at Babyn Yar, web-savvy advertising, modern art installations and audience-grabbing techniques like online gaming have become an integral part of a well-funded effort to update Holocaust commemoration. The tech-heavy approach has drawn criticism from traditionalists, who say it dishonors the solemnity of the topic. READ MORE

“Many of us liberal Jews are not awake to the hatred of our colleagues, students, professors, and thought leaders”

TABLET MAG
Stop Enabling the Antisemites Who Live Closest to Our Homes
by Ammiel Hirsch
September 27, 2021

… The Jewish people is and has always been the perfect scapegoat around which to organize and rally people to extreme political causes. It is nefarious Jewish power that stands in the way of peace, prosperity, liberation, or justice. Thus, communists could accuse the Jews of being capitalists. Capitalists could accuse the Jews of being communists. Nationalists could accuse the Jews of cosmopolitanism, and cosmopolitans could accuse the Jews of blind and exclusive loyalty to the Jewish people. The hard left can accuse the Jews of being white and complicit in racial inequality, and the extreme right can accuse the Jews of being an insidious enemy of the white race. Imagine how much easier it would have been for Goebbels had he had social media at his disposal. READ MORE

“The EU is also pouring money in to create a de facto Palestinian state, regardless of the Palestinian strategy of using such a state to destroy Israel”

Europe’s deadly hypocrisy
by Melanie Phillips
October 8, 2021

…Yet the European Union continues to funnel money to the Palestinians even while they pour out antisemitism and remain committed to eradicating Israel. Their educational materials, for which the EU helps pay, promote hatred of Jews and incitement to murder Israelis and steal their land. The EU also enables the Palestinian Authority to pay the families of terrorists for murdering Israelis. Last December, the PA announced that the EU had contributed 54 per cent of the cost of benefits for “needy” families. By so substantially helping provide for the “Palestinian needy,” the EU allows the PA to use its own funds in order to pay rewards for terror. The purported wall between welfare assistance and “pay-for-slay” is an illusion. READ MORE
