“Andrew Yang’s op-ed, which reads that ‘BDS unfairly singles out Israel for unfair economic punishment,’ sparked fierce debate between pro-Israel, progressive Democrats”

Andrew Yang Got It Right on BDS
by Stephen H. Norwood and Rafael Medoff
January 29, 2021

We’re used to politicians mangling history, whether out of carelessness or partisanship. So it was a breath of fresh air when New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang recently shared a powerful historical truth about people who boycott Jews. Yang has been pilloried by supporters of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. But he got it right. “A Yang administration will push back against the BDS movement, which singles out Israel for unfair economic punishment,” he wrote in The Forward. And then came his most controversial — but most important — sentence: “BDS [is] rooted in antisemitic thought and history, hearkening back to fascist boycotts of Jewish businesses…” READ MORE

Chief Rabbi of France, Haim Korsia, praises move by Catholic Church, calling it “prophetic initiative”

Citing Erosion of ‘Mutual Respect,’ Catholic Church in France Issues Clarion Call Against Antisemitism
by Algemeiner Staff
February 2, 2021

The leading bishops of the Catholic Church in France published an emotional declaration against antisemitism on Monday, emphasizing that the “importance of the Jewish roots of Christianity must be recalled now more than ever.” The declaration — signed by Monseigneur Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, president of the Conference of Bishops of France, and four of his senior colleagues — was unveiled at a short ceremony on Monday in the presence of French Jewish leaders. The text noted that France had been shocked by the brutal murder of four people last year at the hands of Islamist assailants: high school teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded in broad daylight in a Paris street on Oct. 16, and three worshipers at a church in Nice, one of whom was beheaded, on Oct. 29. WASHINGTON TIMES Clifford May: U.N. General Assembly simply remembering the Holocaust is insufficient Year after year, even on International Holocaust Memorial Day, the U.N. and its affiliated organizations are not merely silent about such genocidal incitement [against Israel]. They also spend enormous amounts of time and energy demonizing Israel, sending the message that the extermination of the last viable Jewish community remaining in the Middle East — Jews having been expelled from most Arab lands following World War II — would be amply justified.

“Until Greene disavows QAnon, anti-Semitism, and her Facebook support for political violence, Republicans and conservatives should condemn her and distance themselves from her”

Why Republicans Need to Denounce Marjorie Taylor Greene
by Tyler O’Neil
January 30, 2021

…Conservatives and Republicans need to condemn Greene’s previous statements on social media and demand an explanation for them. While Greene has dismissed the scandal as a biased attack from the left-leaning legacy media, she has yet to explain her previous statements or denounce them. Until Greene unequivocally rejects the insane and dangerous things she has written and promoted on Facebook, she will give conservatives and Republicans a bad name. While “canceling” people for old social media posts is distasteful, it seems Greene consciously built a following of crazies and worse in order to further her political career…In 2018, Greene crafted a conspiracy theory about Jewish space lasers. 10 ways to fight back against woke culture
By Bari Weiss
January 31, 2021

…America is imperfect. (Does it even need to be said?) There is bigotry toward blacks and gays and Jews and immigrants; there is intense polarization; political violence is becoming more regular; elected representatives believe conspiracy theories. All true here as in many other countries being torn apart by the dislocations of the 21st century. But there is no gulag in America. There are no laws permitting honor killings. There is no formal social credit system of the kind that exists right now in China. By any measure, we have achieved incredible progress and enjoy extraordinary freedoms. And yet people aren’t acting that way. They are acting, increasingly, like subjects in a totalitarian country…READ MORE

Controversial former Obama aide Malley named Biden’s top envoy on Iran

JERUSALEM POST
Iran rejects new players and new negotiations of nuclear deal
by Reuters and Lahav Harkov
January 30, 2021

Iran’s foreign ministry rejected any new negotiations or changes to the participants in Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers, after French President Emmanuel Macron said new talks should include Saudi Arabia. The remarks came after the White House confirmed that veteran diplomat Robert Malley was named special US envoy for Iran. A key member of former president Barack Obama’s nuclear negotiating team, Malley is a controversial figure in Israel, where he is viewed as soft on Tehran and tough on Jerusalem…US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden administration would consult with its allies in the Middle East, including Israel, before engaging in talks with Iran. TIMES OF ISRAEL 2015 nuke deal negotiator Malley named as Biden’s envoy on Iran; hawks cry foul Appointment comes amid criticism from some who consider him soft on Tehran, appears to indicate seriousness of Biden plans to reenter JCPOA if Iran returns first…“It’s deeply troubling that President Biden would consider appointing Rob Malley to direct Iran policy,” Republican Senator Tom Cotton tweeted last week. “Malley has a long track record of sympathy for the Iranian regime & animus towards Israel. The ayatollahs wouldn’t believe their luck if he is selected,” he wrote.

NEW YORK POST
A new libel against Israel from Human Rights Watch
Editorial Board
January 29, 2021

Israel has led the world in rapidly vaccinating much of its population, so naturally the global left has to find fault: hence the drive to condemn Jerusalem for not taking responsibility for vaccinations in Gaza and the West Bank. In a series of tweets, Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth accused Israel of racism for this supposed failure; a week later, Palestinian officials decided to join the blame game, announcing that Israel is responsible for vaccinating Palestinians despite past statements to the contrary. In reality, as UN Watch’s Hillel Neuer notes, the 1995 Oslo II Accord designates responsibility for the health care and vaccinations of its people to the Palestinian Authority. READ MORE

California Is Cleansing Jews From History
by Emily Benedek
January 27, 2021

…Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, director of AMCHA Initiative, which fights campus anti-Semitism, points out that all 13 founding members of the Critical Ethnic Studies Association (CESA) are BDS activists. CESA, the national home base for critical studies, passed a resolution to boycott all Israeli academic institutions in 2014, and the group’s past four biennial meetings included multiple sessions demonizing Israel. “There are a couple thousand academic boycotters of Israel in the country,” she said, “and the largest percentage of them come from ethnic studies. Anti-Zionism is built into the theory and the discipline of ethnic studies, which demonizes Israel as an apartheid settler-colonialist Nazi state.” READ MORE

Biden Taps Anti-Israel BDS Activist for Top White House Intel Job
by Adam Kredo
January 27, 2021

The Biden administration is tapping for a top intelligence post a Palestinian-American who spent years at the forefront of efforts to boycott Israel and danced in front of a banner calling Israel an apartheid state. The selection of Maher Bitar to be the senior director for intelligence programs at the National Security Council is already generating concerns that he will use the post to diminish intelligence sharing between the United States and Israel. Bitar spent years leading anti-Israel organizations that promote the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which wages economic warfare on Israel. READ MORE
