by James T. Norman

Highland Park police estimated that more than 300 people attended a pro-President Donald Trump rally Monday that was, overall, peaceful despite moments of contention between counter-demonstrators who showed up. Much of the three-hour Labor Day rally, which took place at the intersection of Central and St. Johns avenues, included participation from a few local organizations and groups, city officials said…City officials say two primary groups made up the crowd: The Lake Bluff Social Club and the Highland Park and Highwood Co-Alliance for Racial Equality [apparently many of the pro Trump supporters had no connection to or knowledge of The Lake Bluff Social Club, which is reported to be a “militia”] READ MORE

HIGHLAND PARK PATCH Pro-Trump Rally In Highland Park Dwarfed By Counterprotest In addition to heated verbal confrontation, Strom [a pro-Trump attendant] said she had to physically help an elderly man away from the group after he was surrounded. “They really only had the F-word to use. They were absolutely despicable. There’s no other word to describe them. We were shocked at their disrespect toward the police,” she said. “The hate they were just screaming in our faces is truly like nothing I have ever seen before” Strom said.

Heard in #AbuDhabi: “The younger generation in the Middle East has much to gain from abandoning extremism and fostering ties with Israel”

JERUSALEM POST
Netanyahu gave Israel a place among the nations in a new Middle East
by Lahav Harkov
September 4, 2020

…It clearly was not just Israelis who were excited about this new development. The Emiratis pulled out all the stops. They literally rolled out the red carpet for the El Al plane that landed at the airport in Abu Dhabi. They held a banquet with steaks and caviar for the officials of both governments. The journalists were given a private tour of the futuristic-looking Louvre Abu Dhabi and served a four-course dinner, including camel meat, a delicacy. (There was an elegant kosher option, from the newly OU-certified local kosher caterer, as well.) READ MORE

Aliyah to Israel on the rise, despite COVID-19 and bureaucracy bottlenecks
by Israel Kasnett
September 9, 2020

Israel is seeing a spike in aliyah (immigration to Israel) this year, with a higher number of people interested in moving to the Jewish state compared to previous years. But with COVID-19 wreaking havoc across the world, it has become more difficult to get through the process and once in the Jewish state, whole families are required to sequester in a hotel for two weeks. Welcome to aliyah in 2020! According to Yael Katsman, vice president of public relations and communications at Nefesh B’Nefesh, a nonprofit organization that promotes and facilitates aliyah to Israel, “aliyah is continuing, and we are seeing a [200%] spike in interest in the number of applications.” READ MORE

“King Salman of Saudi Arabia informs US President Donald Trump that he will not pursue a peace deal with Israel until a “fair and permanent solution” is reached on the Palestinian issue”

Saudi king links normalization with Israel with Palestinian statehood
by Reuters and ILH staff
September 7, 2020

King Salman of Saudi Arabia has informed US President Donald Trump there would be no normalizations with Israel without Palestinian statehood, the kingdom’s state news agency reported on Monday. The leaders spoke by phone following a historic US-brokered accord last month under which the United Arab Emirates agreed to become the third Arab state to normalize ties with Israel after Egypt and Jordan…Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and site of its holiest shrines, has no official diplomatic ties with Israel. However, this month the kingdom said it would allow flights between UAE and Israel, including by Israeli airliners, to use its airspace. READ MORE

“The antisemitism eminent in attacks on Israel and on Zionist Jews like Ritch is evident to all except the most intentionally hateful or obtuse”

Rose Ritch Is a Clarion Call to End Jew Hatred on College Campuses
by Micha Danzig
September 8, 2020

…What happened to [Rose] Ritch epitomizes the “new anti-Semitism.” Rabbi Jonathan Sacks explains that “Anti-Semitism is not an ideologyThe best way of understanding it is to see it as a virus … Today, we are living through the fourth mutation. Unlike its predecessors, the new anti-Semitism focuses not on Judaism as a religion, nor on Jews as a race, but on Jews as a nation.”…Make no mistake—slander and libel are what fuels Jew hatred. Every historic crime against the Jewish people, from our expulsion from England in the 13th century to the Holocaust, was preceded by strings of lies….READ MORE

by Donna Rachel Edmunds
September 6, 2020

A meeting between Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and the father of a black man who was shot by Wisconsin police has sparked a renewed debate over antisemitism within the African-American community, after it emerged that the father had expressed support for antisemitic figures. 29-yr-old Jacob Blake Jr. was shot seven times by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as they attempted to arrest him and was severely injured…It has since emerged that in 2018 and 2019, Jacob Blake Sr. made a number of antisemitic and anti-white posts on social media. “The fate of the Palestinians is no longer an overriding political concern for most Arab regimes”

JNS
The End of the Arab-Israeli Conflict
by Gary C. Gambill
September 6, 2020

…The Israel-UAE agreement and regional reaction to it underscores that the fate of the Palestinians is no longer an overriding political concern for most Arab regimes. This is partly because it is no longer a salient concern of their subjects, according to James Zogby, whose polling firm has conducted regular surveys of public opinion in major Arab countries for years. The latest survey in September 2019, he notes, revealed that there has been “sea of change in attitudes toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” which “ranked in the bottom tier of priorities in every country.” READ MORE

“Only about one-hundredth of 1 percent of in-person votes are rejected, whereas rejection rates of 1 percent are common with mail-in votes, and many states exceeded that during their primaries this year”

Democrats Should Curb Their Enthusiasm for Mail-in Voting
by Rich Lowry
September 2, 2020

There’s a giant scheme afoot to disenfranchise voters in November—it’s called mail-in balloting. Mail-in voting has, like many things in our politics, taken on the aspect of tribal warfare—if President Donald Trump is vociferously against it, Democrats must be vociferously for it, and vice versa. Absentee voting isn’t as secure as in-person voting, but there’s no evidence of widespread fraud, as Trump repeatedly alleges, sometimes in ALL CAPS. Nor is there any evidence that, at least prior to this campaign, mail-in voting has favored Democrats, as the president also believes. READ MORE

“A Polish ex-Communist taught me a hard-earned lesson in the difference between bad and worse”

WALL STREET JOURNAL
Vote for the Czar, It’s Important
by Ruth Wisse
August 31, 2020

…There were three parts to the lesson—two that she spelled out for me, and a third that I have since added on my own.The first was the all-important political distinction between bad and worse. Czarism might have seemed intolerable, but the Communist regime proved crueler than the evils it had come to replace. The Communists had learned from their time in czarist prisons to make conditions harsher, torture more painful and deadlier. When weighing political options, never assume that change is for the better. READ MORE SUBSCRIPTION CONTENT

Kosovo intends to establish diplomatic ties with Israel and both that Balkan-Muslim majority nation as well as Serbia plan to open embassies in Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed both historic announcements, which were made by US President Donald Trump from the White House’s Oval Office on Friday, during a meeting to establish normalized economic ties between Serbia and Kosovo“Kosovo will be the first Muslim-majority country to open an embassy in Jerusalem.  As I said during the last days, the circle of peace and recognition of Israel is expanding with more countries expected to join,” Netanyahu said.
