…New Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot equated the good work of Nasatir and JUF with her vision for the City of Chicago. “Dr. Nasatir’s life and his work personify what it means to give back, to be a public servant, to understand the importance of community, and to reach out to those most in need, she said. “Dr. Nasatir’s incredible work on behalf of the Jewish community worldwide really exemplifies the importance of that common thread that runs through all religions — that we must be our brother’s keepers.” READ MORE

The Priorities of Palestinian Leaders
by Khaled Abu Toameh
June 7, 2019

…The latest [Palestinian] victim died under torture in a Syrian prison last week…His death brings to 606 the number of Palestinians who died under torture in Syrian prisons in the past eight years. One doubts whether Palestinian leaders in the West Bank and Gaza Strip are even aware of these disturbing figures. When was the last time a senior Palestinian official talked about the torture and arrest of Palestinians in an Arab country? They really don’t have the time: they are too busy condemning Israel and the US administration to take note of the fact that thousands of their people are being killed, displaced and tortured in Arab countries. U.S. officials claiming sanctions against Iran have put Hezbollah in dire financial straits are “cherry-picking evidence to paint a misleading picture”

Hezbollah Isn’t Broke. So Why Is Everyone Claiming Otherwise?
by Tony Badran
May 31, 2019

“Terrorist groups like Hezbollah are withering on the vine as Iran sanctions take effect,” Sen. Tom Cotton tweeted last week, voicing what has now become a consensus in Washington. In this age of polarization, the unanimity of this take is all the more remarkable, as it is shared by the Trump administration, Middle Eastern analysts, as well as The New York TimesThe Washington Post, and even the Israeli government. But this conventional wisdom is wrong. Hezbollah is nowhere close to being broke. READ MORE

FDD Sanctions Drive Iranian Oil Exports to Historic Lows Iranian exports of crude oil and condensate plunged rapidly in May to a historic low of less than 500,000 barrels per day and possibly as low as 250,000 barrels. This rapid decrease points to both the surprising effectiveness of U.S. sanctions and the likelihood of increased financial hardship for Tehran in the coming months.

#BDSFail Participants in DC Dyke March were warned not to display Israeli flag. But they did it anyway.

WASHINGTON BLADE
Close to 1,000 turn out for DC Dyke March
by Lou Chibbaro Jr.
June 8, 2019

…A controversial decision by march organizers to request that participants not display “nationalist” flags or symbols, including the Israeli flag or the Jewish Pride flag, which consists of a Star of David superimposed over a rainbow flag, was ignored by a number of marchers who carried those flags. A contingent of Dyke March volunteer marshals who helped D.C. police stop traffic to allow the march to cross streets along its route made no attempt to stop the relatively small number of marchers from carrying the Israeli flag or the Jewish Pride flag. “Trump has not yet been entirely successful. Not only because of his many opponents; it is also because Trump’s public persona, honed in the world of reality television, often distracts from or undermines the goal of reviving American nationhood”

NATIONAL REVIEW
Trump’s Great D-Day Speech
by Matthew Continetti
June 6, 2019

President Trump gave one of the best speeches of his presidency while many Americans were brushing their teeth. His remarks at the 75th commemoration of D-Day at the Normandy American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, were gracious, moving, poetic, and delivered in a time zone six hours ahead of the East Coast. Which is too bad. The address deserves a wide audience not only for its content but also because it fits into the larger themes of this presidency. Speaking from what he described as “Freedom’s Altar,” Donald Trump once again made the case for reviving America’s national spirit, sovereignty, and strength. READ MORE

Bennett to run with New Right again, Shaked mulls next step
by Ariel Kahana, Yaron Doron, Yehuda Shlezinger and Staff
June 3, 2019

Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s sudden dismissal of Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, the co-leaders of the New Right party, which failed to pass the electoral threshold in the recent general elections, convened a joint meeting with party activists Sunday night. Shaked will take the next few days to consider her next political move, Israel Hayom has learned. It should be noted that despite previous reports that certain Likud officials sought to recruit Shaked to the party’s ranks ahead of the upcoming snap election on September 17, that option has effectively been removed from the table. Hundreds of Palestinians riot as Jews allowed on Temple Mount for Jerusalem Day
by Michael Bachner and Staff
June 2, 2019

Clashes erupted between Palestinian rioters and police on Sunday morning at the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, as hundreds of Jews were allowed into the holy site [the holiest site in Judaism] to celebrate Jerusalem Day — the 52nd anniversary of the unification of the capital in the Six Day War. Later in the morning, hundreds of Palestinians rioters threw rocks and chairs at Israeli security personnel…It was the first time in three decades that non-Muslims were let into the site during the final days of the month of Ramadan, which coincided this year with Jerusalem Day. New Survey of American, French, and Israeli Jews Shows Majority Agree on Many Issues, But Sharp Divide Over Trump
by Benjamin Kerstein
June 2, 2019

A new unprecedented survey of the world’s three largest Jewish communities — American, French, and Israeli — showed a majority of the communities agreeing on many issues, but a sharp divide on President Donald Trump’s relationship with Israel. The American Jewish Committee poll showed that 48 percent of Israelis strongly approve of Trump’s handing of the US-Israel relationship, with another 31 percent somewhat approving and only four percent strongly disapproving. Among American Jews, on the other hand, the numbers are almost precisely the opposite, with 45 percent strongly disapproving and only 22 percent strongly approving. READ MORE
