Iran is the culprit behind Tuesday’s Gaza rocket barrage, Israel says
by Anna Ahronheim
May 30, 2018

…Less than a month after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps fired 32 rockets toward Israel’s northern Golan Heights, the Iranian-funded Islamic Jihad along with Hamas fired some 180 Iranian-made 120-mm. mortar shells and 107-mm. rockets toward communities in southern Israel. It was the largest salvo fired from the Gaza Strip since the end of Operation Protective Edge in 2014. In response, Israel carried out the most extensive retaliation since 2014, striking 65 Hamas targets across the entire Gaza Strip, including a dual-purpose tunnel dug one kilometer into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and then 900 meters into Israeli territory. Hebron spokesman Yishai Fleisher unpacks Michael Chabon’s nasty Hebrew Union College speech

JEWISH NEWS SYNDICATE
To Michael Chabon, from biblical Hebron
by Yishai Fleisher
May 30, 2018

At a recent graduation of Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, novelist Michael Chabon berated the Jewish community of Hebron…The IDF defends Hebron for two reasons: Jews have every historical right to be in Hebron, and at the same time we are under constant attack from the jihad. It is not our zealousness that provokes violence, but rather a hateful ideology that has taken hold of our region. Michael, why do give the attackers a pass while blaming the victim? The Jewish community of Hebron does not “gaze out in scorn” at our Arab neighbors… READ MORE

by George Martin
May 28, 2018

Israel and Iran have reportedly held a secret meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation on the Syrian border. The two nations allegedly sent representatives to stay in a hotel in Amman, Jordan in next door rooms. Jordanian officials then acted as mediators – passing messages between the two embattled parties – according to reports in Saudi wesbite Elaph. Although unconfirmed, the report suggested that Iran had reportedly pledged to stay out of fighting in southwest Syria between Syrian forces and rebel groups. READ MORE

New State Solution calls for “the creation of a state for the Palestinian people in Gaza and a coastal section of the northern Sinai Peninsula”

ALGEMEINER
The New State Solution: Turning Gaza Into an Opportunity for Regional Peace
by Amir Avivi
May 27, 2018

…Yet Gaza also constitutes the richest opportunity to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict. With the right policies, Gaza can become nothing less than the linchpin for regional security and prosperity…The New State Solution provides a solution to these problems. It champions a dramatically widened territory. It opens the door to massive economic development, including a seaport, airport, new cities in the Sinai, water desalination, and a new economic market. YNET Looking back, Gaza pullout was a mistake Had Israel remained in Gaza, the economic gap between the Palestinians in the strip and in the West Bank would have been narrowed, the PA would have maintained its rule, tens of thousands of Gazans would be working in Israel and the level of violence would have dropped.

Britain’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ has ruled: Critic of Islam Tommy Robinson arrested then “summarily tried and sentenced to 13 months behind bars” [VIDEO]

GATESTONE INSTITUTE
Swift Injustice: The Case of Tommy Robinson
by Bruce Bawer
May 27, 2018

…On Friday, as reported here yesterday, the saga of Tommy Robinson entered a new chapter. British police officers pulled him off a street in Leeds, where, in his role as a citizen journalist, he was livestreaming a Facebook video from outside a courthouse. Inside that building, several defendants were on trial for allegedly being part of a so-called “grooming gang” — a group of men, almost all Muslim, who systematically rape non-Muslim children, in some cases hundreds of them, over a period of years or decades. Some ten thousand Facebook viewers around the world witnessed Robinson’s arrest live. READ MORE

“Biographer Blake Bailey shares the details of Philip Roth’s long struggle with coronary artery disease, and of his prolific — and profound — writing life”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
The story behind Philip Roth’s final days
by Eric Cortellessa
May 25, 2018

Three weeks ago, Philip Roth was struck with an attack of arrhythmia, or improper beating of the heart, and he dialed 911. Paramedics arrived to his apartment in Manhattan’s Upper West Side and took him to New York Presbyterian Hospital. Doctors soon discovered that he had several blocked stents from a previous angioplasty, a procedure to repair obstructed arteries. They did another angioplasty to unblock those stents and thought he would recover and go home in a few weeks. Roth had suffered with heart problems for almost the entire second half of his life. Iranian women protesters “removing their headscarves in unprecedented acts of civil disobedience are fostering a crisis of self-confidence for the regime”

WALL STREET JOURNAL
The Mullahs’ Biggest Fear: Iranian Women
by Masih Alinejad
May 25, 2018

In 2002, I became a journalist writing for reformist publications, but I was always aware that my hair was held hostage by the Islamic Republic. One day, wearing my hijab while in conversation with two members of Iran’s parliament, I was approached by a conservative lawmaker who immediately warned, “First, cover your hair or I’m going to punch you.” A few wisps had flown loose. In 2009, I had to flee my homeland to avoid being arrested amid political tensions. Five years later, I began the online campaign “My Stealthy Freedom” from London and then New York, urging Iranian women to post images on my Facebook page of themselves removing their hijabs. UNRWA’s “Palestinian Refugee” Fraud?
by Ruthie Blum
May 24, 2018

“Thus, instead of the living original refugees officially numbering 30,000, UNRWA now services some 5.3 million Palestinian Arabs.” The actual number of Palestinian refugees is likely even lower than that cited by the authors: a classified State Department report, delivered to Congress in 2015, reveals it to be closer to 20,000. The report showed that billions of taxpayer dollars have been funneled over the years into an organization that seems to have been perpetuating a fraud. It is no wonder, then, that the Obama administration kept the report’s contents a secret from the American public. READ MORE

“In Obama’s defense, interfering in Israel’s elections had almost become a Democratic Party tradition”

NEW YORK POST
The hypocrisy of American election investigations into Israel
by Seth Lipsky
May 23, 2018

…After all, if the United States wants to investigate meddling in foreign elections, Israel is a great place to look. Just not for the reason Mueller & Co. think. Just a few years ago in 2015, then-President Barack Obama threw everything he had into an effort to defeat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party in Israel’s most recent election [using taxpayer dollars]. He became only the latest of our Democratic US presidents to do so. First, Obama — according to The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg…— tried to “force a rupture in the governing [Netanyahu] coalition…” READ MORE

JERUSALEM POST Heeding Democratic Warnings Caroline Glick: Every day Israel is subjected to a torrent of warnings from Democrats. “You will pay a price for your support of President Donald Trump,” we are told. “He won’t be president forever, and when he’s gone, watch out!” The basic notion, repeated over and over again is clear enough. If Israel doesn’t want to be punished by the next Democratic White House – which we are warned will make us long for Barack Obama – then we’d better stop talking about the fact that Trump is the best ally and friend Israel has ever had in the White House.
