“ The Jewish state is secure enough to shrug off the world body’s longstanding rhetorical hostility”

Israelis Don’t Care How the UN Votes. Here’s Why.
by Daniel Gordis
December 26, 2017

When President Donald Trump announced on Dec. 6 that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Israelis cheered; support for the move in Israel was almost universal. When the United Nations General Assembl overwhelmingly repudiated Trump’s announcement last week, Israelis just shrugged. Israelis have long seen the UN as unremittingly hostile to the Jewish state, and no longer pay it much attention. A consistent pattern of recent UN votes on matters involving Israel drives home that point. READ MORE

Argentina prosecutor Alberto Nisman was killed, judge rules
December 27, 2017

Alberto Nisman, the Argentine prosecutor who died hours before he was due to testify against former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, was murdered, a federal judge has found. Mr Nisman died from a gunshot wound in his Buenos Aires flat in January 2015. He had been due to testify the next day that Ms Fernández covered up alleged Iranian involvement in a deadly bombing at a Jewish centre in the city in 1994. An official investigation had ruled that the prosecutor took his own life. READ MORE

“Why does the Democratic Party continue to tolerate James Zogby in its leadership ranks?”

Democrats should disown official who accused Israel, Rachael Ray of ‘cultural genocide’
by Stephen Flatow
December 27, 2017

A longtime Democratic Party official [James Zogby], is accusing Israel, and celebrity chef Rachael Ray, of committing “cultural genocide” against the Palestinians….Ray’s sin was that in a tweet about an Israeli-themed meal, she mentioned having “stuffed grape leaves, hummus, beet dip, eggplant and sun dried tomato dip, walnut and red pepper dip, and tabouli.” Zogby responded with this frothing-at-the-mouth tweet: “Damn it @rachaelray. This is cultural #genocide. It’s not #Israeli food. It’s #Arab (#Lebanese, #Palestinian, #Syrian, #Jordanian). First the Israelis take the land & ethnically cleanse it of Arabs. Now they take their food & culture & claim it’s theirs too! #Shame.” READ MORE

“A masterful new film shows how Churchill saved the world from Nazi Germany in May of 1940” [VIDEO]

Civilization’s ‘Darkest Hour’ Hits the Silver Screen
by Victor Davis Hanson
December 28, 2017

The new film Darkest Hour offers the diplomatic side to the recent action movie Dunkirk. The story unfolds with the drama of British prime minister Winston Churchill’s assuming power during the Nazi invasion of France in May 1940. Churchill’s predecessor, the sickly Neville Chamberlain, had lost the confidence of the English people and the British government. His appeasement of Adolf Hitler and the disastrous first nine months of World War II seemed to have all but lost Britain the war. Churchill was asked to become prime minister on the very day that Hitler invaded France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The armies of all three democracies — together larger than Germany’s invading forces — collapsed within days or a few weeks. READ MORE

Josh Meyer gets an echo chamber beat-down
by Lee Smith
December 27, 2017

A week after Josh Meyer’s Politico expose, “The Secret Backstory Of How Obama Let Hezbollah Off the Hook,” former Obama officials are still berating Meyer for his 13,000-word article detailing how the Obama administration killed a nearly decade-long DEA effort to stem a global Hezbollah cocaine-smuggling-and-organized-crime ring to help secure its nuclear deal with Iran. “This was a policy decision, it was a systematic decision,” former Defense Department analyst David Asher explained in the article. “They serially ripped apart this entire effort that was very well supported and resourced, and it was done from the top down.” READ MORE

“Recognition of Jerusalem first step in necessary process of convincing Palestinians they have lost”

WALL STREET JOURNAL
In the Mideast, Trump Gives Reality a Chance
by Reuel Marc Gerecht
December 26, 2017

A lot of people are in a funk over President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The liberal media, most former government officials who’ve dealt with the Israeli–Palestinian imbroglio, and just about everyone at the United Nations appear certain that the decision had a lot to do with Mr. Trump’s disruptive nature, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Evangelical Christians and pro-Israel Republican donors. It’s possible that his decision was based instead on an old-fashioned understanding of the way the world works, one that would be familiar to Middle Easterners: There are winners and losers in every conflict, and Palestinians have decisively lost in their struggle with the Jews of the Holy Land. “Haley plainly outshines Tillerson, a hapless if well-meaning secretary of state who has managed to wow neither the president nor the public”

Nikki Haley, the Trump administration’s breakout star
by Jeff Jacoby
December 24, 2017

…Nearly a year into the job, America’s ambassador to the UN comes across as refreshing, unabashed, principled, and savvy. She is one of the most popular officials in a historically unpopular administration. “The breakout star of Trump’s Cabinet,” CNN calls her. This would be impressive under any circumstance. It’s especially so in the Trump presidency, which has been very rough on the reputations and careers of numerous high-level officials. It’s even more remarkable given Haley’s own history with Trump. Displeased with Palestinians, Arab states chart new Jerusalem policy
by Daniel Siryoti
December 25, 2017

Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are displeased with the way the Palestinian Authority has reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and his decision to relocate the U.S. Embassy to the city, Israel Hayom has learned. Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit announced over the weekend that he would head a new committee, comprising the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudia Arabia and the Palestinian Authority, to devise a new policy on Jerusalem…“The Palestinians’ efforts to sway public opinion have been a complete failure, and as a result, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has created a rift between us [the Arab world] and Trump.
