The Reform movement is no longer certified as a trip provider for Birthright, according to a Judy Maltz report in Haaretz Sunday (How Orthodox Groups Are Taking Over Birthright, and Using It to Target Young U.S. Jews). Not on religious or political grounds, God forbid, but because they have been unable to deliver the goods – in this case, fresh eyed Jewish American kids eager for their free summer trips to Israel…And so, according to [Yoav] Schaefer, a poster boy for the Jewish American left’s past relationship with the Jewish State, the growing ambivalence of the Reform and Conservative establishment in America about Israel is reflected in their growing inability to appeal to their youth to go spend a fun ten days on the shores of the Mediterranean. …Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the [Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead]’s behavior is that prior to the showing of the film [The Occupation of the American Mind], the church met with a group of community leaders who had come with irrefutable counter-points to the film’s premise. Before a word could be spoken, however, Rev. Wendy von Courter, minister of the church, made it clear that no matter what was proven, the show would be going on. The group listened politely while the reverend and four assistants dutifully regurgitated the inaccurate talking points of the film. When it became clear that the church was not open to compromise, my 96 year-old dad, who was leading the group, found it prudent to bring the meeting to a close. READ MORE

The Trump administration and Israel are working to prevent the publication of a “blacklist” identifying companies operating in Israel’s West Bank settlements, The Associated Press reported Sunday. Israeli officials are concerned publishing the list of companies being compiled in a United Nations database could drive business away, according to the AP. The companies have not been publicly identified, but reportedly include banks, supermarkets, restaurant chains and security firms, among others. READ MORE

The horrific massacre on Friday at a mosque in Northern Sinai was a stark reminder of this reality and prompts the question: why and to what end? While no one as of Saturday night had claimed the deadly massacre that killed 305 worshipers, Egyptian officials said the terrorists were waving the black Islamic State banner as they fired into the mosque. MSNBC personality Joy Reid called rural Americans a “core threat to our democracy” last weekend. Responding to a piece in the Wall Street Journal headlined, “The Varied – and Global – Threats Confronting Democracy,” Reid called for sacking the Electoral College because it gives rural voters an unfair advantage over urban voters in national elections. It cites a prediction that by 2040, 70 percent of Americans will live in the 15 largest states by population. That means 70 percent of the people in America will be represented by 30 members of the U.S. Senate and the other 30 percent will be represented by 70 senators. READ MORE

Soon after taking office, President Trump ordered his national security advisers to provide “a complete strategic review of our policy toward the rogue regime in Iran.” Last month, based on that review, he announced a new strategy “to confront the Iranian regime’s hostile actions,” including its development of missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, its support for terrorists, and its neo-imperialist aggressions. This month that strategy is facing its first serious test. Ironically, it’s the success of Mr. Trump’s policy of expeditiously defeating the Islamic State that has brought matters to a head so soon. The situation in France has gotten so desperate that the only way to prevent civil war between Muslim and non-Muslim sections of society is to divide the country in two, one French academic argued. This may seem needlessly drastic, but the push for Sharia (Islamic law) being enshrined in the government may make it necessary. “Just as the English never managed to tame the Irish Catholics, we will never be able to eradicate the radical Islamism,” wrote Christian de Moliner in the French online magazine Causeur. “Everyone realizes that a second people has formed in France, a branch that wants to settle their life on religious values and is fundamentally opposed to the liberal consensus on which our country was founded.” READ MORE
