CAMERA is changing student attitudes in Ireland about Israel

How Israel education efforts are ‘changing opinions’ on Irish university campuses
by Eliana Rudee
November 8, 2017

At age 18, Tal Hagin is one of the first Zionist and Israeli speakers to present his message on university campuses in Ireland. His feat comes in a country where many observers believe the environment for supporters of Israel can be hostile.   With mentorship and funding from the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), Hagin used Israel as a case study on overcoming media bias during a speaking tour from Oct. 23-27. “I went with the hope of changing opinions, helping the students to question the media in what they see of coverage of Israel, and I was able to do that,” Hagin told JNS.org. “I could tell people were influenced.” READ MORE

“Head of Hillel at Princeton is more worried about how Muslims feel than about Jewish students’ rights to hear Israel’s side of the story”

Hillel’s Conservative Rabbi Julie Roth is a second time offender
by David Bedein
November 8, 2017

Princeton Hillel’s Conservative Rabbi Julie Roth barred Israel Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely from addressing Princeton Hillel.  To anyone who is conscious of Deputy Minister Hotovely representing the first Jewish  government in 2000 years this is hard to  believe – and to anyone who values the free exchange of ideas, it is shockingly illiberal. But it is in keeping with Roth’s allergy to pro-Israel speakers. Eight years ago, in my capacity as the Middle East Correspondent of the Philadelphia Bulletin, I was assigned to cover the appearance at that very same Princeton Hillel auditorium of a pro-Israel Arab activist, Nonie Darwish. Her appearance, however, was cancelled by – you guessed it –  that very same Conservative Rabbi Julie Roth. World’s largest aerial exercise this year takes to Israel’s skies

Close to 100 aircraft, including fighter jets from Germany, and hundreds of support crew from eight nations are taking part in the largest air force exercise ever held in Israel and the biggest in the world to be held this year. “This exercise is an expression of the ever growing international cooperation we share with our foreign partners,” Israel Air Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Amikam Norkin said. Crews from the US, Greece, Poland, France, Germany, India and Italy are taking part in the two-week Blue Flag drill, honing their skills in planning, targeting and coordinated command and control. “France is experiencing “a process of national and civilizational decomposition that the authorities have decided to accompany and moderate, without claiming to fight and overthrow it, as if it were unavoidable””

France: A Decomposing Civilization
by Giulio Meotti
November 9, 2017

…The previous French president, François Hollande, did not even try to get re-elected; his successor, Emmanuel Macron, refuses to talk about Islam and appears to accept the permanent capitulation to the state of fear and emergency. The French army failed to liberate Raqqa, Syria as it promised after the attacks. “France will destroy ISIS“, Hollande said after the carnage in Paris; but it was US and Kurdish forces that liberated the Islamic State’s de facto capital. 15,000 French Islamists are now being monitored by the French intelligence services. Meanwhile, in the last ten years, 40,000 Jews have fled France. READ MORE

“The fact that Israel has repeatedly taken action to protect the Syrian Druze says a lot about the true state of anti-Arab “racism” in the country”

COMMENTARY
Why Israel Threatened Military Action to Save an Enemy
by Evelyn Gordon
November 7, 2017

Many people nowadays accuse Israel of being a racist state that considers its Arab minority second-class citizens. I wonder, then, how they explain what happened last Friday? For the third time in the last two years, Israel threatened military action to stop an attack by extremist Syrian rebels on the Syrian Druze village of Khader. It did so despite the fact that Syrian Druze have sided with the Assad regime in that war, meaning they’re aligned with Israel’s arch-enemies, Iran and Hezbollah; despite the fact that Khader itself has been the source of several anti-Israel terror attacks; and despite the fact that such intervention risks entangling Israel in Syria’s civil war, something it has hitherto tried hard to avoid–and all just because it was asked to do so by its own Druze minority, which was worried about its coreligionists across the border. “The Clinton campaign wasted millions of dollars on the old public sphere, and wholly failed to grasp what the populist right was doing in the new one”

SUNDAY TIMES
It was the net (and Jesus) wot wonit for Trump
by Niall Ferguson
November 5, 2017

…“These social platforms were all invented by very liberal people on the West and East Coasts,” mused Brad Parscale, Trump’s digital media director. “And we figured out how to use it to push conservative values. I don’t think they thought that would ever happen.” That, surely, is the most compelling epitaph for the Clinton campaign — which, in a rich irony, nearly all Facebook and Google employees supported. To get it right last November, all you really needed to know was that Trump dominated Clinton on both Facebook and Twitter. The fact she outspent him, overall, by about two to one was irrelevant. Princeton Hillel director cancels Deputy Foreign Minister’s talk on campus
by Lahav Harkov
November 6, 2017

Princeton University’s Hillel House on Monday canceled a planned address by Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, following a petition by a progressive Jewish group on campus. In a letter to the Israeli Consulate in New York, Rabbi Julie Roth, executive director of the Center for Jewish Life on Princeton’s campus, stated “The Center for Jewish Life at Princeton decided to postpone the program with Member of Knesset Tzipi Hotovely until we can properly vet the program through our Israel Advisory Committee. We are fortunate that our colleagues at Chabad agreed to host the program today as originally scheduled and we are encouraging our students who are interested to attend. We regret the last-minute change and apologize to Ms. Hotovely for the inconvenience. READ MORE

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada has become a more dangerous place for Jews”

JERUSALEM POST
Excusing Jew-hatred in Canada
by Bradley Martin
November 7, 2017

The Toronto Star, Canada’s largest daily newspaper, recently published a disgraceful article defending a Toronto imam who called for the genocide of Jews. Ayman Elkasrawy is a former teaching assistant at Ryerson University and junior employee at his mosque, Masjid Toronto. “O Allah! Count their number; slay them one by one and spare not one of them. O Allah! Purify the Al-Aqsa mosque from the filth of the Jews!” invoked Elkasrawy in a sermon in 2016. After video of his prayer surfaced, Elkasrawy backtracked, claiming that he misspoke…It’s bad enough that anti-Jewish bigotry is rising in Canada, but now it seems that elements of the mainstream Canadian media are intent on making excuses for it. This blatant obfuscation by The Toronto Star is indicative of a much larger problem plaguing the Trudeau government and Canadian media .READ MORE

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman “just executed a sweeping—and risky—purge of his potential political adversaries”

POLITICO
What the Hell Just Happened in Saudi Arabia?
by Kristian Coates Ulrichsen
November 6, 2017

Even by the torrid pace of change Saudis have become used to under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, developments over the past two days have been as frenetic as they are momentous. The removal of Prince Miteb bin Abdullah as commander of the Saudi Arabian National Guard and one of the few remaining autonomous sources of authority in the kingdom, was followed swiftly by the detention of at least 11 members of the ruling family and dozens of others, including government ministers and ex-ministers and key figures in the business community. The detentions, framed as part of a sweeping crackdown on corruption following a royal decree that mandated a Supreme Committee headed by Mohammed bin Salman to address the issue, represent the latest in a series of bold moves by a youthful crown prince who has centralized authority to a degree unprecedented in recent Saudi history…READ MORE
