Israel blasted Thursday a report by the United Nations’ ongoing Commission of Inquiry into last year’s 11-day fighting with Hamas that alleged IDF rights abuses. The 28-page document, which is the second one published by the probe, mentions Israel 277 times but fails to mention Hamas. Israel slammed it as biased and dismissive of the terror group’s wrongdoings, as during the conflict, Hamas launched over 4,000 rockets into Israel, sending tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of Israelis to shelters. The report also calls on the Security Council to end Israel’s supposed occupation of the West Bank and on individual UN member states to prosecute Israeli officials. READ MORE

In recent days, my colleagues and I have been closely monitoring the fallout from two major events: 1)Israel’s surrender to demands made by Hezbollah, Lebanon and, ultimately, Iran regarding the Israel-Lebanon maritime border and the right to extract natural gas from the Karish gas field. 2)Israel’s weak and fearful response to the many terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and Samaria (a.k.a. the northern part of the “West Bank”). In the Middle East, when one party to a dispute caves to the other’s demands, the winner ups the ante. No one respects those who meekly submit to their opponents. No sooner had the announcement of the maritime deal with Lebanon than the politicians started squabbling over it, with both vile criticism and heavy praise exchanged over the ether. But the truth is that both sides are just divorced from reality. They are all true to one thing: There are elections coming up in two weeks’ time. Those who have called the deal historic because it could pave the way to normalizing relations are wrong; and those who say that it is a humiliating instrument of surrender to Hezbollah that would deny Israel billions of dollars in gas revenue that will now go to terrorism, are also very wrong. He had goals he sought to achieve in life, he found a good job and it seemed like it was all going to work out for him.” Last Wednesday, he was found beheaded in Hebron.
