During a Senate hearing, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey said Ayatollah’s tweets do not represent a threat of ‘immediate harm’ to Israel or its citizens. Yeah, right.

Twitter CEO dismisses Ayatollah’s threats to Israel as ‘saber-rattling’
by Marc Rod
October 29, 2020

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sparred with Republican lawmakers over his company’s decision to permit tweets from Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for the destruction of Israel and denying the Holocaust at a raucous Senate committee hearing on Wednesday. During the Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee hearing, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) pressed Dorsey on why Twitter had not taken action against tweets from Khamenei threatening Israel. The Twitter founder responded that the company does not see the tweets as an immediate threat to Israel or its citizens’ safety. “We did not find those to violate our terms of service because we considered them saber-rattling…” READ MORE

Jeremy Corbyn suspended: “It is a day of shame for the Labour Party. We have failed Jewish people”

Britain’s Labour Party will struggle to erase its moral stain
by Melanie Phillips
October 30, 2020

The report of an 18-month inquiry into anti-Semitism in Britain’s Labour Party has now been published. Almost instantly, it produced a dramatic and unexpected result. The Equalities and Human Rights Commission, which conducted the inquiry, has thrown the book at Labour over its handling of the anti-Jewish bigotry in its ranks under its previous hard-left leader, Jeremy Corbyn. It has found that the party illegally harassed and discriminated against Jews, breaking equality laws. It identifies a culture within the party “which, at best, did not do enough to prevent anti-Semitism and, at worst, could be seen to accept it.” READ MORE

REUTERS UK Labour suspends ex-leader Corbyn on anti-Semitism ‘day of shame’ Britain’s Labour opposition suspended its former leader Jeremy Corbyn on Thursday after he downplayed a report that detailed serious failings in the party’s handling of persistent anti-Semitism complaints during his 2015-2019 leadership. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) said it had found evidence of failure to adequately train people investigating alleged anti-Semitism, political interference in the processing of complaints, and harassment of individuals.

“Many of the Jews who fled Sudan as second- or third-generation natives often get sentimental about their former home”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
Exiled Jews would ‘love’ to see Sudan again, if given chance via new Israel ties
by Yaakov Schwartz
October 31, 2020

Shortly after receiving her master’s degree in ancient history from King’s College in London, Daisy Abboudi found herself listening to yet another dinner table conversation about her relatives’ early life in Sudan. Sudan’s Jewish community, founded at the turn of the 20th century and numbering roughly 250 families at its zenith, was one of the smallest — and shortest-lived — in the Middle East. And while its members enjoyed warm relations with their Muslim neighbors for decades, Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948 and the subsequent wars unleashed by its Arab neighbors brought a flood of anti-Semitism that eventually forced the community to flee, most of them arriving in Israel or Switzerland as stateless refugees. Biden Touts Endorsement From Leading Anti-Semites
by Adam Kredo
October 28, 2020

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden touted an endorsement from a group of leading Muslim officials who have accused Jews of dual loyalty to America and praised anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. A group of nearly 50 Muslim elected officials across the country expressed support for Biden in a late-July letter sponsored by Emgage, an anti-Israel Muslim-American group funded by liberal billionaire George Soros. Emgage has drawn scrutiny in recent years for defending terrorist groups and collaborating with Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organizations….Biden also said he wished “we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith” during his video message. “The Washington Post is exactly right when it says, ‘Democracy dies in darkness.’ It is ironic, then, that the Post is part of the problem, not the solution”

THE SPECTATOR
The American media is failing you
by Professor Charles Lipson
October 30, 2020

American journalism has lost its bearings, and we are all paying the price. For the past four years, egged on by President Trump, mainstream news swiftly descended past the first circle of hell — subtle partisanship — and reached a far darker, hotter one: blatant favoritism, stories killed for purely partisan reasons and occasional propaganda masquerading as solid news. Journalism’s decline mirrors that of other American institutions, but it has compounded the social damage. A thriving democracy depends on free and open debate and informed debate depends on trustworthy news. For most Americans, that trust has evaporated. READ MORE

“Under the new US policy, individuals will be able to choose whether to have “Jerusalem, Israel,” or just “Jerusalem” on their passports”

US citizens born in Jerusalem to have ‘Israel’ on their passports
by Lahov Harkov
October 28, 2020

The Trump administration plans to reverse a longstanding US policy that passports of citizens born in Jerusalem may not say they were born in Israel. The change in policy is expected to take place in the coming days, less than a week before the US election…The State Department’s current, official policy as listed on its website “recognizes that Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are territories whose final status must be determined by negotiations.” As such, anyone who was born in Jerusalem’s municipal borders after Israel’s establishment is listed as being born in Jerusalem [not Israel]. Gaza’s Islamist rulers Hamas convicted three Palestinian peace activists of “weakening revolutionary spirit” for having held a Zoom call with Israelis peace campaigners, but ordered the release of two of them after six months in jail. Hamas arrested Rami Aman, 39, and seven other activists in April after the conference call, describing it as “treason”. Such grassroots dialogue between Israelis and Gaza Palestinians is rare. While five of the activists were released within days of being arrested, Gaza military prosecutors charged Aman and two others with aiding Israel and ordered them jailed until their trial. READ MORE
