Knesset member: “Wow. Twitter just admitted that tweets calling genocide against Jews by Iranian leaders DON’T violate its policy! This is a double standard. This is anti-Semitism”

Knesset makes effort to confront anti-Israel, anti-Jewish posts, hate speech online
by Israel Kasnett

…On July 29, the Israeli Knesset held a hearing concerning the growing concern of anti-Semitism found on social media….At the hearing, representatives from Twitter and Facebook were taken to task over the rampant anti-Semitism on their platforms. In the debate with Ylwa Pettersson, head of Twitter Policy for the Nordics and Israel, Cotler-Wunsh called on Twitter to adopt and implement the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, and utilize it to combat the hatred, double standards and violence against Jews taking place on its platform. Young Turks want to leave Turkey, irrespective of their political leanings

Turkey’s Brain Drain: Why Youths See No Future There
by Burak Bekdil
August 1, 2020

Turkey’s Islamist president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, once declared his political mission as “raising devout (Muslim) generations.” Research in recent years has shown that Turkish youths have defied Erdoğan’s most ambitious social engineering project. Konda, a pollster, found in 2019 that Turkish youths were less likely than the wider population to identify themselves as “religious conservative.” They were less likely to fast, pray regularly or (for females) cover their hair. Ipsos, an international pollster, found that only 12% of Turks trust Islamic clerics. SODEV, another pollster, found that 60.5% of youths that support Erdoğan said they would prefer to live in Christian Switzerland with half the salary they would earn in Muslim Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian community “waged a six-year legal battle with the property owner to search the cellars for Jewish victims”

Remains of 286 Jewish Holocaust victims uncovered in 2 basements in Ukraine
by Marcy Oster
July 27, 2020

The remains of 286 Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust were found in two basements in a town in southwest Ukraine. The remains, mostly women and children, will be buried in a mass grave in the ancient Jewish cemetery in Sataniv, Ynet reported. The town had an organized Jewish community for about 500 years before the Nazis captured it in 1941 and began systematically killing its Jews, according to the Yad Vashem website. On May 15, 1942, Nazi troops and Ukrainian military police locked the 286 Jews in the cellars and suffocated them. READ MORE

#SethRogen’s opinions about Israel “are increasingly popular among young progressives who have replaced traditional Jewish religious and moral values with a menu of cultural Marxist ideas regrading race, victimhood, and power”

NATIONAL REVIEW
Why Seth Rogen’s Anti-Israel Rant Matters
by David Harsanyi
July 29, 2020

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that Seth Rogen has, at best, a facile understanding of basic history, faith, or politics. We shouldn’t expect anything else. His job is to act. The problem, though, is that Rogen increasingly feels the need to share his illiterate opinions about serious issues with millions of people. This week, in an appearance on Marc Maron’s popular (and excellent) podcast, Rogen claimed he was “fed a huge amount of lies about Israel” growing up, and he now questions the legitimacy of the Jewish state’s existence. “Just as Pelosi and colleagues demonize law enforcement officers trying to restore order and safety in places like Portland, Seattle, and Chicago, the media and Netanyahu’s opponents in Knesset condemn the police for any effort to arrest demonstrators”

Riots and Protests from Portland to Jerusalem
by Caroline Glick
July 31, 2020

Over the past several years, public discourse in the United States has seen a lot of new lows. It saw another one this month when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi referred to federal officers in Portland, Oregon as “stormtroopers,” that is, Nazi Brownshirts. In a tweet on July 18 and in subsequent remarks, Pelosi accused the federal forces deployed to Portland of “kidnapping protesters and causing severe injuries in response to graffiti.” Pelosi’s allegations would cause a political earthquake – if they were true. But they aren’t true. And the fact that she slandered federal officers as Nazis is a deeply disturbing testament to where the Democratic Party – of which she is the senior elected official – stands today and what its intentions are. DNC platform will not condition US aid to Israel on sovereignty, but will seek return to Iran deal
by Jackson Richman
July 28, 2020

In a move that bodes well for Israel, the Democratic National Committee’s platform committee voted on Monday to reject additional language that would make the party’s stance on the Jewish state more critical. The committee voted 117-34 to reject adding the word “occupation” and a condition of U.S. assistance to Israel on the Jewish state not going ahead with its plans to apply sovereignty to parts of the West Bank, also known as Judea and Samaria…RJC spokesperson Neil Strauss told JNS, “Democrats can put whatever they want in their platform; we know, by their actions, what their party stands for. Joe Biden has invited Bernie Sanders’ viciously anti-Israel foreign-policy team onto his team. Nancy Pelosi endorsed the most anti-Semitic member of her caucus, [Minnesota Rep.] Ilhan Omar. “Jordan understands that it was defeated in 1948 and 1967 and that the Jewish State is here to stay”

ARUTZ AHEVA
How victory works
by Nave Dromi
July 21, 2020

…Seventy two years ago, in 1948, Jordan, then known as Transjordan, with arguably the strongest army in the region, British trained, invaded what would become the territory of the United Nations-mandated Jewish State, conquering wide swathes of territory and massacring inhabitants of Jewish towns and villages, like in Gush Etzion. It seized Judea and Samaria and large parts of Jerusalem, expelling and ethnically cleansing these territories of their Jewish populations. Even after it signed a ceasefire agreement with the newly established State of Israel, it continued to allow deadly Fedayeen attacks from its territory in a war of attrition to try and achieve what the traditional military method could not. Rectangular in shape, and with tank treads, its top features sensors, cameras and space for armaments. However, the Carmel’s most unique feature can be found upon entry through the back hatch, which brings you into a space filled with equipment often found in the bedroom of an average teenager. “Study of 10,000 seeds from Negev viticulture settlements illustrates how plague, climate change and socioeconomic depression in booming empire’s periphery point to its decline”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
Seeds from 1,500-year-old Negev trash pits show a world on the brink of collapse
by Amanda Borschel-Dan
July 27, 2020

Pandemic, climate change, and international socioeconomic depression are all leading factors in the crash and burn of Negev viticulture — a millennium and a half ago. A new archaeological study of Byzantine-era trash dumps in the Negev Highlands offers an eerily relevant analysis of how the strong Byzantine empire of the mid-6th century began to crumble while international markets were tanked by a butterfly-effect list of causes. Contributing factors to the doomsday atmosphere included the Late Antique Little Ice Age (LALIA), a bizarre widespread climate anomaly that began with a series of massive volcanic eruptions in the 530s and 540s CE, and the Justinian Plague of 541-549 CE.
