Holocaust revenge fantasies like “Inglorious Bastards” and “Hunters” are “bad-faith gestures, assuring an audience that we can ditch our collective trauma by lying to ourselves”

Hunters’ Plays Unacceptable Games with the Truth
by Andrew Silow-Carroll

‘Hunters” lost me at the chess scene. If you’ve been watching the Amazon mini-series about a team of Nazi hunters led by Al Pacino, you know what I am talking about. If not, I won’t spoil it for you, except to say that it is a particularly graphic and shocking depiction of Nazi sadism that the series creator, David Weil, admits came from his own imagination I agree with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, which tweeted that the torture scenario invented for the series “is not only dangerous foolishness & caricature. It also welcomes future deniers. We honor the victims by preserving factual accuracy.” READ MORE

“For COVID-19, Iran has relied on foreign antisemitic conspiracies to add weight to misinformation about the origins of the virus”

JERUSALEM POST
Iran’s Regime Pushes Antisemitic Conspiracies about Coronavirus
by Seth Frantzman
March 8, 2020

Iran’s Press TV, which represents the regime’s English-language propaganda, has been pushing antisemitic conspiracies about the coronavirus to distract from the mullah regime’s mishandling of the pandemic…Over the last several days, Iran has pushed several reports claiming that “Zionists” were behind the coronavirus. Press TV also quoted the same website that was at the center of an antisemitic article from 2017 that claimed “America’s Jews are driving America’s wars.” On March 5, Press TV claimed that “Zionist elements developed a deadlier strain of coronavirus against Iran.” READ MORE

ALGEMEINER Hezbollah Chief, Senior Members Reportedly Under Quarantine, May Have Coronavirus The leader of the Lebanese Shi’a terror organization Hezbollah may have been infected with the coronavirus and has been placed under quarantine, along with several other senior members of his group, according to media reports. Israel’s Channel 13, citing a report in Al Arabiya, reported on Wednesday that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah had been quarantined for fear he had contracted the disease, apparently after it was spread to several of his close aides by an Iranian visitor.

BLOOMBERG Coronavirus Ravages Iran All the Way to the Top Four current and former Iranian officials have died so far from coronavirus: a member of the Expediency Council that advises 80-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; an aide and mentor to Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif; a former ambassador to the Vatican; and a newly elected member of parliament. Iraj Harirchi, the deputy health minister in charge of the country’s coronavirus task force, has it himself, as does the head of Iran’s medical services.

“The plight of Christians living under the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in the Gaza Strip is one that is often ignored by the international community and foreign journalists based in the Middle East”

GATESTONE
Who’s Attacking Palestinian Christians?
by Bassam Tawil
March 8, 2020

While Christian leaders are busy condemning Israel and spreading blood libels against it, Christians in Bethlehem are again being targeted by hoodlums and punks. The latest victim of this anti-Christian violence is Dr. Salameh Qumsiyeh, a gynecologist from Bethlehem who was brutally attacked by unidentified thugs as he was driving his car in the center of the city on February 18. Four masked assailants intercepted Qumsiyeh’s car, eyewitnesses said, and beat him with clubs and sharp tools before fleeing the scene. Qumsiyeh was rushed to hospital, where medics said that the wounds he had suffered were serious. READ MORE

“As a conservative Hispanic woman, I am accustomed to being in the minority opinion, especially on a liberal college campus”

THE CHICAGO MAROON
I Am the IOP Whiteboard Girl
by Evita Duffy
March 6, 2020

Last week I was asked by the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics (IOP) to participate in a digital initiative, called “I vote because…,” where students pose with a small white board stating their personal reasons for voting. Some examples included “Medicare for All,” “Universal health care shouldn’t be considered a radical idea,” and “Children shouldn’t be kept in cages.” I wrote, “I vote because the coronavirus won’t destroy America, but socialism will.”… I am a proponent of free speech, and I hoped my white board message might even encourage a lively and robust debate on economics. However, I was naïvely unprepared for the onslaught of online hate and threats of violence I received. READ MORE

March 7, 2020

Yisrael Beytenu chief Avigdor Liberman has told confidants there is “no chance” he will join a government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming the prime minister was behind multiple legal complaints filed against him and his children last year, Channel 12 reported Saturday…Likud denied it had been behind any efforts to hurt Liberman legally. “This is an utter lie,” the party said. Liberman is continuing with his bizarre lies. It never happened.” And journalist Yitzhak called the accusations “sordid, bizarre theories.” READ MORE

“Pope Pius XII, who led the Catholic Church from 1939 to 1958, has long been criticized for his public silence during the Holocaust”

WASHINGTON POST
Pope Pius XII was silent during the Holocaust. Now Vatican records may reveal whether he collaborated with the Nazis.
by Gillian Brockell
March 3, 2020

It was a Saturday — Shabbat — in October 1943. The Nazis had been occupying Rome for a month. An hour before sunrise, they surrounded the Jewish ghetto and began la razzia. The roundup. Within a few hours, more than a thousand Italian Jews, mostly women and children, had been herded together a few blocks from the walls of Vatican City. As one Nazi ambassador later put it, the Jews were loaded into trucks and taken away “under [the pope’s] very windows.” Whether that pope witnessed the deportation or not, he said nothing. Only 16 of those Jews would survive. READ MORE

Hate Crime: Woman Charged For Taking Racist Jibes At Israeli Student On New York Subway
by Shreyashi Chakraborty
March 5, 2020

A black woman from New Jersey accused of subjecting an Israeli college student to an anti-Semitic tirade on a New York City Subway was indicted Wednesday on hate crime by a Manhattan grand jury. Lihi Aharon, the victim, and another Jewish man were targeted while aboard a subway train in December. Aharon asked the woman to shift her belongings in order to make space for her but she refused. Aharon then sat next to the man who was wearing a yarmulke, a skullcap worn by orthodox Jewish men. The woman, identified as Zarinah Ali, 38, reportedly started to foul-mouth both of them thereafter. Ali also allegedly physically attacked Aharon. Police arrested her shortly after and charged her with assault. READ MORE

“The UN’s selective outrage and discrimination is best exemplified in their blacklist of leading international tourism services companies, such as Airbnb, booking.com, and TripAdvisor” all of which offer services in OTHER disputed territories, but not subject to UN condemnation

REAL CLEAR WORLD
The UN’s Selective Outrage on Occupied Territories
by Brenda Shaffer, Svante Cornell and Jonathan Schanzer
March 4, 2020

The best evidence that the UN Human Rights Council does not seek to act against foreign occupation of lands, but against Israel, is the fact that the database collects information on activities only in territories controlled by Israel, and not all territories regarded by the United Nations as under occupation. Indeed, the list does not include companies operating in Russia’s occupations in five regions in neighboring countries. Nor does it include businesses in Northern Cyprus, Western Sahara, Kashmir, Nagorno-Karabakh, to name just a few. The list immediately lacks credibility because it ignores these conflicts. READ MORE
