“The New Israel Fund is seeking to create an alternative to Federations by allowing donors to give money to exactly the kind of groups that mainstream philanthropies want no part of”

New Israel Fund’s war on Jewish life
by Jonathan S. Tobin

According to the Forward, the rationale for the New Israel Fund’s push to create an alternative philanthropic system can be explained by what a Philadelphia psychologist named Roy Idelson considered to be a reasonable request. He wanted his local umbrella Jewish philanthropy—the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia—to allow him to use its foundation to donate money to an entity of his choice, IfNotNow [a request ultimately denied by Federation]. A number of federations and many others operate foundations that allow their supporters to create so-called “donor-advised” philanthropic funds to funnel money to nonprofit groups of the individual’s choice. READ MORE

Omar rails against the West that had zero to do with her own people’s barbarism. By the way, it was the “Western Imperialists” that rescued her family and gave them asylum

POWERLINE
Omar Rails Against “Western Imperialism”
by John Hinderaker
November 4, 2019

Yesterday Bernie Sanders held a rally on the campus of the University of Minnesota, at which he was introduced by Ilhan Omar. Attorney General Keith Ellison also appeared in support of Sanders’ presidential campaign. The rally was successful, with thousand of adoring far-leftists attending. Omar sounded like an unreconstructed Marxist, calling for “a mass movement of the working class” and assuring her listeners that Sanders will “fight against Western imperialism.” It’s 1969 all over again! ISRAEL HAYOM Clifford May: Selective anti-imperialism Right now, people in Hong Kong, Iraq and Lebanon are putting their lives on the line in struggles against oppressive empire builders. Ms. Omar, Mr. Sanders and others who fancy themselves anti-imperialists show not the slightest concern for them.

“Some in the Trump administration believe that the Lebanese Army is as likely to collaborate with Hezbollah as resist it”

JEWISH PRESS
In Slap to Hezbollah, Trump Halts Aid to Lebanese Army, Ignoring Congress, State Dept., Pentagon
by David Israel
November 3, 2019

The Trump White House on Thursday froze a $105 million in security aid for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), at a time when the country is in the midst of a political and economic crisis, with its prime minister having just resigned following several weeks of riots. Despite the similarity between this arms freeze and the “quid pro quo” of which President Trump is being accused in halting military aid to Ukraine, the freeze of aid to the LAF appears to be based on a sound evaluation of its real value in resisting the greatest threat to Lebanon’s democracy: the terrorist group Hezbollah. It has been going on for years; the UN says it is fighting modern slavery, and international civil servants are either corrupt or incompetent, because nothing changes. The BBC has discovered Islamic slave markets on Instagram and other applications. A secret investigation by BBC News Arabic revealed that domestic workers are being bought and sold illegally online and that the market is booming, thanks to new technologies. READ MORE

Biden’s “denunciation of threats to cut Israel aid was great, but it’s far from clear that the fading establishment champion can best his party’s increasingly dominant left wing”

Can Joe Biden save the day for pro-Israel Democrats?
by Jonathan S. Tobin
November 1, 2019

After a week in which attacks on Israel by Democratic presidential candidates dominated discussion at the J Street conference, Joe Biden finally gave what’s left of the pro-Israel wing of the party a reason not to despair. After Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg had all endorsed cutting military aid to Israel, Biden finally weighed in on the subject. Speaking to a reporter from The Wall Street Journal, the former vice president said the notion of conditioning continued assistance to Israel was “absolutely outrageous,” and that such a policy would be a “gigantic mistake.” READ MORE

“Inconveniently, Michael Doran has proven to be right on very big questions on which nearly everyone else in Washington turned out to be wrong”

If Michael Doran were on Wall Street, he’d be a billionaire
by Liel Leibovitz
October 30, 2019

While Americans fondly speak of “the Kurds,” Doran insisted, there was in fact no such unified entity: The Kurds in Iraq are different from the Kurds in Syria, who are aligned with the PKK, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization that Doran described as “a Stalinist cult.” President Obama, he continued, aligned America with this sworn enemy of the Turks, who were a necessary if admittedly imperfect cornerstone of the NATO alliance. Netanyahu told ministers Trump can’t be counted on to act against Iran — report
by Staff
1 November 2019

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a group of ministers recently that they should not expect the US to take serious action against Iran for at least the next year, according to a report Thursday. Netanyahu on Thursday hinted publicly for the first time at unease with Washington’s hesitancy to take action, echoing statements in recent weeks from officials speaking off the record about Iran’s growing boldness...Netanyahu told the ministers that in the interim Israel would have to deal with Iran on its own. READ MORE

REUTERS U.S. to renew waivers allowing non-proliferation work with Iran The United States plans to allow Russian, Chinese and European companies to continue work at Iranian nuclear facilities to make it harder for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, two sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. The Trump administration, which last year pulled out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, will let the work go forward by issuing waivers to sanctions that bar non-U.S. firms from dealing with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said the sources on condition of anonymity.
