“How Europe’s Jew-hate problem was reborn on American campuses”

Anti-Semitism in Hitler’s birthplace and the college campus
by Daniel Greenfield
July 31, 2018

The campus is the canary in the coal mine. It’s where American Jews are beginning to experience a European style of anti-Semitism where the complicity of the authorities in the harassment perpetrated by a growing Muslim population and its left-wing allies leaves Jewish students uniquely vulnerable. American anti-Semitism is taking off on campus, but it won’t stay there. School and college campuses are the places where a new generation learns what it means to be an adult member of society. The tolerance for campus anti-Semitism won’t remain an aberration. READ MORE

Geraldo Rivera “smears Israel by suggesting that Israel’s defensive actions make Israel like the terrorists”

BREITBART
I Read Geraldo‘s Anti-Israel Book So You Don‘t Have To
by Morton A. Klein
July 30, 2018

Worse yet, Geraldo reiterates the Al Dura “Pallywood” hoax as if It were real. He treats the fake, staged video, taken by a Palestinian-Arab propagandist, of 12-year-old Mohammed Al-Dura huddling next to his father and purportedly being killed, as demonstrating the “real suffering” of the Palestinian people. Geraldo omits the actual facts. Detailed investigation showed that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fire did not kill Muhammad al-Dura.  There was no evidence that the boy was even injured. Video footage showed al-Dura moving his arm and leg after the alleged killing, with no visible bloodstains. Iran currency extends record fall as U.S. sanctions loom
by Staff
July 29, 2018

Iran’s currency hit a new record low on Sunday, dropping past 100,000 rials to the U.S. dollar as Iranians brace for Aug. 7 when Washington is due to reimpose a first lot of economic sanctions. In May, the United States pulled out of a 2015 deal between world powers and Tehran under which international sanctions were lifted in return for curbs on its nuclear programme. Washington decided to reimpose sanctions upon its withdrawal, accusing it of posing a security threat. It has told countries they must halt imports of Iranian oil from Nov. 4 or face U.S. financial measures. READ MORE

Saudi Arabia and other key Arab countries have told the Trump administration they won’t be able to support its plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace if it doesn’t include a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem. Martin Kramer says the NYT just made a claim about David Ben Gurion that he debunked last month

MEDIUM
Debunked, but still fit to print on page one
by Martin Kramer
July 27, 2018

…In Monday’s [New York Times] edition, on page A1, an article by Max Fisher appeared under the headline “Israel, Riding Nationalist Tide, Puts Identity First. It Isn’t Alone.”…containing this [supposed] quote: “But Ben-Gurion insisted that Israel give up the territories it had conquered. If it did not, he said, occupation would distort the young state, which had been founded to protect not just the Jewish people but their ideals of democracy and pluralism”….I thoroughly debunked it at Mosaic Magazine…I went to the trouble of asking the Ben-Gurion Archives in Sde Boker to help locate the transcript of the talk that Hertzberg attended. They did, and there’s no evidence whatsoever that Ben-Gurion said what Hertzberg claimed he heard. READ MORE

Hamas TV network urging kids to “Shoot the Jews” may not be so helpful for peace efforts

IDF Cuts off Hamas-Related TV Station
by Ralph Hedderman
July 31, 2018

IDF forces in the Binyamin area early Monday morning made sure one television station couldn’t carry Hamas propaganda over the airwaves anymore as the Israeli forces arrested four Palestinians who operated the Hamas-affiliated al-Quds TV station. According to the Palestinian official WAFA news agency, the four apprehended men were station head Ala Rimawi, Sami Ulwan, Husni Injass and Qutaibah Hamdan, all of whom are freelance journalists, World News Israel reports. The television channel, Al-Quds TV, was shut down by the IDF because Israel earlier in the month labeled the channel a terror organization. READ MORE

Birthright “As a trickle of activists leave the free rite of passage to protest a ‘one-sided’ narrative, others say their trips were marked by a 360-degree look at contentious issues”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
Sometimes Birthright trips do address the ‘occupation.’ But is sometimes enough?
by Cathryn J. Prince
July 24, 2018

…”They talk about the conflict but they also want you to fall in love with Israel, maybe to move there. We had meetings with people from both sides. The whole trip in general is to get you connected, and to have a good time,” said Michael Zola, a junior at UMass-Amherst who went on Birthright last month with Cornell University. Zola said there was never a sense of tension among those on his bus with tour guides or a feeling that Birthright was hiding things from them.READ MORE

What do Arabs and leftwing US Jewish leadership have in common? Neither wants Israel to be a Jewish state

JERUSALEM POST
The Holographic Nation-State Law
by Caroline Glick
July 26, 2018

…For Israel’s first 60 years, the Federations, like the other major Jewish groups weren’t quick to air their disagreements with Israel’s elected officials. Their gut response was to support Israel and let others attack it. Now the longstanding instinct has been turned on its head. Underlying the Federation’s reactions to the law is a profound discomfort with the fact that Israel is the Jewish state and intends to remain the Jewish state. This pronounced discomfort speaks to a profound shift in Federation values from Zionism to post-Zionism. READ MORE

ISRAEL HAYOM Reversing support, Bennett says nation-state law must be ‘remedied’ After Druze leaders decry nation-state law as ‎an “extreme act of discrimination” against Israel’s minorities, Education Minister Naftali ‎Bennett acknowledges legislation process was “damaging” • Finance minister: Nation-state law was enacted hastily.

JNS Melanie Phillips: Israel gets it right on the nation-state, while the West fumbles with identity Jews are a nation, and Israel is their nation-state. Its new Nationality Law does what many other nations have done: affirms the national identity of the state. Thus it ratifies Hebrew as its official language, identifies the Jewish calendar as the country’s official calendar, and establishes Independence Day, Memorial Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day as national holidays.

by Inbar Tvizer

Hundreds of family members and friends attended the funeral on Friday afternoon of 31-year-old Yotam Ovadia, who was stabbed to death on Thursday evening by a Palestinian terrorist in the settlement of Adam. Ovadia was killed by 17-year-old Mohammad Tareq Yousef from Kobar in a stabbing attack on Thursday night while he was on his way to his parents’ house to collect items he bought for a romantic dinner he had prepared to surprise his wife to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Av—similar to Valentine’s Day. ‘New York Times’ shills for ‘largely peaceful’ Gazan rioters and arsonists
by Andrea Levin
July 26, 2018

A shill is the surreptitious partner of a huckster salesman, revving up an audience to believe a sales pitch and buy a product. Looking back at months of rioting and arson along the Gaza border with Israel—and the distorted rendition of reality by The New York Times of those events—it’s undeniable that the publication has promoted Hamas propaganda, relaying to its millions of readers what the terrorist group wanted them to believe and omitting what Hamas preferred concealed. The product sold? Israel as aggressor, Palestinians as victims. READ MORE

JERUSALEM POST Peggy Shapiro: Aggressive-Passive Reporting on Israel …When a journalist presents all violence committed by Hamas in the passive voice – “Israel hit by rockets” – it leaves the impression that there was no perpetrator. When the same journalist uses the active voice – “Israel carries out strikes” – to describe Israel’s response, it attributes blame to Israel and portrays Israel as the aggressor. Headlining “Soldier dies from gunshot” omits the shooter and implies that no one pulled the trigger. Too many headlines and articles lack explicit reference to an actor unless the actor is Jewish/Israeli.
