Transcript: Russia Blocked Second Obama UN Resolution on Israel
by Charles Bybelezer
June 18, 2020

According to a recently declassified transcript of a phone conversation between former White House adviser Michael Flynn and then-Russian ambassador to Washington Sergey Kislyak, Moscow blocked a 2016 United Nations initiative that would have imposed on Israel final parameters for a peace deal with the Palestinians. In December of that year, the US abstained on – and thus allowed passage of – Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemned Israeli settlement activity. However, the newly declassified transcript suggests that then-president Barack Obama had floated a second resolution calling for the creation of a Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders within a specified timeframe. “One chief of police, for instance, credited what he learned in Israel with assisting him in deescalating and resolving an armed hostage-taking incident”

I am the architect of the U.S.-Israel police exchange. Don’t believe the lies.
by Steven L. Pomerantz
June 19, 2020

The nationwide demonstrations following the horrific killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by a white police officer in Minneapolis have launched a pressing conversation about race and law enforcement in America. Unfortunately, some are cynically trying to drag Israel into the debate, claiming the Jewish state is responsible for incidents of police brutality in the United States owing to law enforcement exchange programs between our two countries. As the architect of one of those programs, I can say this claim is not only false, but dangerous. READ MORE

“Facing discrimination, poverty, and misery, Palestinians residing in Iraq have finally broken their silence in an attempt to draw the world’s attention to their predicament”

GATESTONE
The Palestinians No One Tells You About
by Khaled Abu Toameh
June 19, 2020

…The Palestinians are accusing the Iraqis and the United Nations of taking a series of measures that have further aggravated the conditions of hundreds of Palestinian families in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. In a letter to the Iraqi newspaper Al-Youm, Palestinians complained that “the animals that live in European countries have a better life than us.”…The Arab states unremittingly subject Palestinians to apartheid and discriminatory measures. Yet the heads of the UN and its member states seem too busy with their obsession with Israel to attend to the pleas of these Palestinians, who are being deprived of basic rights in Iraq and throughout the Arab world. READ MORE

EU okays landmark Israel ‘Open Skies’ aviation deal, despite annexation tensions
by Raphael Ahren
June 18, 2020

The European Parliament on Wednesday evening ratified a major aviation agreement with Israel. The Open Skies agreement is seen as a major boost for the Israeli economy, since it reduces airfares and promotes the creation of additional routes. Jerusalem hailed the vote on the deal, which concluded a seven-year process, as a major diplomatic achievement. At the same time, the European Union on Thursday indicated that the vote should not be seen as prejudging its response to a possible Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank. READ MORE

#BLM An Orthodox–and conservative–Jewish professor explains why he’s not attending his employer’s reeducation programming

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOLARS
See Clearly, Decide Wisely, Act Justly
by Jeffrey J. Poelvoorde
June 15, 2020

Editor’s Note: This open letter was written by Jeffrey J. Poelvoorde, an associate professor of history and politics at Converse College. It is written in response to the administration’s decision to make all those employed by the college watch a series of videos on systemic racism acquired by the college’s department of “diversity and inclusion.”...As an aside, I must admit that I am already quite familiar with the videos in question and the other materials produced by the company employed by our “Office of Diversity and Inclusion.” They are at worst inoffensive and at best anodyne. But the administration must be either naive or disingenuous to deny that there is an ideological content and substructure to this material. READ MORE

FRONT PAGE MAG Professor Jason Hill: The Advancing Nihilism and the Rot of Post-Modernism in the West I myself was shocked when I received an email from my home institution [Chicago’s DePaul University] apprising me of a workshop that had as one of many programs on its agenda the business of “decolonize that syllabus.” The reasoning is predicated on misguided social engineering. This is not a matter of diversifying the syllabus. It means literally divesting it of all white canonical figures who are presumed to be racist because they are white and who wrote during particular historical epochs that did not celebrate black agency…Our universities have ceased to be bastions of learning and have become national security threats, purveyors themselves not just of inverse racism, but educational tropes of cultural Marxism…

Israel’s Jewish Defamers: Welcome to an odious, virtue-signaling screed

FRONT PAGE MAG
Jewish Studies Professors for Palestine
by Richard L. Cravatts
June 18, 2020

Seeming to give credence to what wry Professor Edward Alexander referred to as the “explosive power of boredom” among some members of the professoriate, around 400 “professors of Jewish Studies in North and South America, Europe, and Israel” recently published and signed “A Letter on Annexation and Apartheid in Israel.”… What is their theory here? That Israel’s re-annexation of lands over which it has sovereignty and legal rights will cause an uptick in Jew-hatred from the Arab world? That the Arabs who have been murdering Jews since the 1920s, even before the birth of Israel, and have continued that jihad with suicide bombings, rocket and mortar fire from Gaza, stabbings, ramming with vehicles, incendiary kites, and lethal stone throwing are suddenly going to hate Jews more and wish to murder them more frequently if annexation occurs? “Netanyahu tells the story of a major drama that unfolded behind the scenes at the UN Security Council shortly before former US President Barack Obama left office” and it involved Putin

ISRAEL HAYOM (by agreement with JNS)
How Russia saved Israel from a Palestinian state based on the ’48 borders
by Ariel Kahana
June 15, 2020

New details about some drama involving Israel, Russia, and the US that played out behind the scenes at the United Nations Security Council some four years ago are coming to light. It appears that Russia demonstrated a rare willingness to use its UNSC veto on Israel’s behalf to block a resolution led by then-US President Barack Obama, which would have compelled Israel to set up a Palestinian state based on the 1948 borders. Approximately six months ago, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at an election rally in Maaleh Adumim that he had asked a “friend,” whom he referred to as “the leader of one of the superpowers who holds veto power in the UN Security Council,” to vote against the resolution. JERUSALEM POST Lahav Harkov: Did Putin save Israel from Obama at UN, and why are we hearing this now? Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon at the time: “To be in a room and see all the other member states voting against Israel, and the US allowing it to happen, was a moment I will never forget,” Danon said…We did work with the US mission very closely and we achieved a lot of things together, but that shameful vote will be what people remember of president Obama’s presidency.

“With the stars aligned, Israel needs to seize the moment, and its key lobby group in Washington, AIPAC, should encourage American lawmakers to do the same”

Why AIPAC should endorse Trump’s plan and support Netanyahu’s sovereignty move
by Ret. General Amir Avivi
June 16, 2020

…As a retired general in the Israel Defense Forces–and the founder and CEO of “Habithonistim,” the “Protectors of Israel” organization—which has gained traction among more than 1,000 high-ranking IDF soldiers, officers and commanders in the four months since its establishment—I feel the need to clarify the rampant misconceptions, by AIPAC and others, surrounding the sovereignty issue…It might come as a surprise to its naysayers, but Trump’s plan is almost identical to the Oslo Accords, signed by the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1993 and 1995. When describing the principles of the Oslo agreement that he himself initiated, Rabin declared that Jerusalem would remain forever the undivided capital of the state Israel; that the Jordan Valley would remain Israel’s eastern border; and that the Palestinians would have political autonomy in Judea and Samaria, where Israel would maintain security control. READ MORE

Al-Tamimi extradition “likely to be raised this week when Jordan’s King Abdullah II speaks to several congressional committees to voice his opposition to Israel’s plans to annex portions of the West Bank”

US considers withholding aid to Jordan to force extradition
by Matthew Lee and Josef Federman
June 16, 2020

The Trump administration is considering withholding aid to one of its closest Arab partners, Jordan, in a bid to secure the extradition of a woman convicted in Israel of a 2001 bombing that killed 15 people, including two American citizens. The administration says it’s weighing “all options” to press Jordan to extradite Ahlam Aref Ahmad Al-Tamimi, who is wanted by the U.S. on a charge of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction against American nationals. The charge was filed under seal in 2013 and announced by the Justice Department four years later. READ MORE
