Jared and Ivanka won’t be banned, “but I don’t think most synagogues would give them an aliyah”

New York Times Jew-shames Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump
by Joel B. Pollak
November 18, 2018

The New York Times took aim at Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump on Saturday in a story citing them as symbols of division within the American Jewish community: “Are Jared and Ivanka Good for the Jews?” The article, by Amy Chozick and Hannah Seligson, cites liberal critics of the Trump administration within the Jewish community who argue, effectively, that Kushner and Trump ought to be excommunicated for their roles at the White House…The article also cites left-wing Jews who allege that the president’s daughter — who converted Orthodox — and her Jewish son-in-law are a mere “fig leaf” for the antisemites who support the administration. “Halevi said that while “criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism, criticism of Israel’s existence, denying Israel the right to exist, calling Israel the ‘Zionist entity’ – that is anti-Semitism.””

Israeli author Yossi Klein Halevi, speaking at DePaul Law School in Chicago, responded to a question about the ethics of “humanizing” Zionists. Halevi explained how anti-Semitism throughout history blames Jews for the day’s ills. Today, “the most loathsome qualities are racism, colonialism, apartheid. And lo and behold, the greatest offender in the world today…is the Jewish state.” Those who refuse to “humanize” Zionists, to humanize supporters of Israel’s right to exist, mark a “classical continuity of thousands of years of symbolizing the Jew.” READ MORE

“Hamas didn’t achieve a military victory. But toppling the defense minister is a kind of victory because it shows that Hamas can shake Jerusalem’s politics at the very top”

How Hamas Brought Israel to the Brink of Election Chaos
by Seth Frantzman
November 16, 2018

Israel’s defense minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned on November 14 in the wake of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza. His resignation has now plunged Israeli politics into chaos as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must juggle what’s left of his fragile coalition government and is being pressured to appoint Naftali Bennett, head of the Jewish Home party, as the new defense minister. Hamas, which has been challenging Israel with six months of protests and rocket fire from Gaza, has now achieved what it sees as a victory. READ MORE

Nikki Haley to vote No on Golan resolution: ‘The U.S. will no longer abstain’

BLOOMBERG
U.S. Plans to Change Vote to ‘No’ on UN’s Golan Heights Measure
by David Wainer
November 15, 2018

The U.S. plans for the first time to vote against a United Nations resolution that calls on Israel to end its occupation of the Golan Heights, highlighting a shifting American perspective on the strategic plateau. A draft of an annual resolution expected to be voted on Friday by the UN General Assembly calls attention to the “illegality of the decision” taken by Israel “to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan,” adding that “acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible under international law.” READ MORE

UN WATCH  UN to condemn Israel 9 times, rest of world 0 Days after the Hamas terrorist group assaulted Israeli civilians with a barage of 460 rockets — while the UN’s General Assembly and Human Rights Council  stayed silent — the world body now adds insult to injury by adopting nine lopsided condemnations, whose only purpose is to demonize the Jewish state.” While France, Germany, Sweden and other EU states every year support 15 out of a total of 20 resolutions adopted against Israel, the same European nations have failed to introduce a single UNGA resolution this year on the human rights situation in China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Belarus, Cuba, Turkey, Pakistan, Vietnam, Algeria, or on 175 other countries.

“Turning to her fellow business class passengers, O’Broin screamed, “I’m a human rights lawyer, for the f**** Palestinian people, and the rest of you, and you all sit on your f**** asses”

‘In Vino Veritas:’ Prominent BDS Leader Arrested After Drunken, Racist Rant Against Staff on Air India Flight
by Ben Cohen
November 15, 2018

Amateur video of a prominent BDS leader and human rights lawyer engaging in a prolonged, racist rant against staff in the business class cabin of an Air India flight went viral on Thursday, as anxious fellow passengers relived their experience on social media. The incident involving Simone O’Broin — a 50-year-old lawyer from Northern Ireland — took place last Saturday on a flight from Mumbai to London, and was sparked by the refusal of Air India cabin staff to serve her more alcohol. Already heavily inebriated and slurring her words, O’Broin stumbled to her feet and launched into an expletive-laden rant…READ MORE

“Exploding the myth of #Moroccan tolerance”

GATESTONE
The Jews of the North Africa under Muslim Rule
by Ruthie Blum
November 14, 2018

Exile in the Maghreb, co-authored by the great historian David G. Littman and Paul B. Fenton, is an ambitious tome contradicting the myth of how breezy it was for Jews to live in their homelands in the Middle East and North Africa when they came under Muslim rule. “Ever since the Middle Ages,” the book jarringly illustrates, “anti-Jewish persecution has been endemic to Muslim North Africa.”…The impetus for the book, which was first published in French in 2010 and in English in 2016, was to expose the misrepresentation by certain historians of the relations between the Jews of Morocco and Algeria and their Arab rulers. Minnesota Dem Congresswomen-Elect: I Believe In, Support BDS Movement
by Aryssa Damron
November 12, 2018

Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar told Muslim Girl magazine that she “believes in and supports the BDS movement,” adding that she has fought to ensure others are also able to openly support the movement. Omar, who was elected to Congress in the 2018 midterms, will be the body’s first member to openly support the movement to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Israel. Omar, a Muslim and a Somali-American refugee, was elected to replace Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.) in the state’s 5th Congressional District. Ellison was the first Muslim elected to Congress. NEW YORK POST Here’s the anti-Semitism the media doesn’t want to mention What went curiously unmentioned in all the flattering post-election coverage, however, was that Omar, who replaces Keith Ellison — a former acolyte of anti-Semitic minister Louis Farrakhan — also has some exotic notions about the Jewish people. In a 2012 tweet, for instance, the Democrat explained that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.

Are American Jews disenchanted with Israel? No.

COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS
American Jews and Israel
by Elliott Abrams
November 9, 2018

Everyone knows that American Jews are becoming increasingly distant from and disenchanted with the State of Israel…And everyone knows why: Israel’s right-wing government and its policy of expanding settlements, and Israel’s maltreatment of non-Orthodox strains of Judaism are repeatedly mentioned as the key explanations. But it seems that what everyone knows is simply wrong–and oddly enough we learn this from none other than the left-wing Jewish group called J Street….The survey asked “Compared to 5-10 years ago, do you feel more positive, more negative, or about the same toward Israel?” The result: 55 percent said about the same, 26 percent said more positive, and 19 percent said more negative. Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman ‎announced ‎Wednesday that he was resigning his position as defense minister and exiting the coalition. His resignation will take effect on Friday.  The dramatic announcement followed weeks of what has been described as “prolonged disagreements” with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s policy in the Gaza Strip and how best to handle Hamas’ provocations.‎..The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement Tuesday saying that all cabinet ministers supported the decision to agree to a truce, but Lieberman’s office was quick to issue a denial, saying the defense minister had demanded that Israel take action against Hamas and was overruled by the prime minister. TIMES OF ISRAEL Life in south slowly returns to normal after two days of rockets from Gaza Life in Israeli communities and towns near Gaza slowly returned to normal on Wednesday after a quiet night signaled that a tentative reported ceasefire was holding following two days of intense rocket attacks from the Hamas-ruled Strip. Schools, higher education institutes and businesses were to reopen and farmers could again work their fields, many of them adjacent to Gaza.

JERUSALEM POST Khaled Abu-Toameh: Israel-Hamas ceasefire after Gaza violence pushes Abbas toward irrelevancy As Hamas celebrated its “victory” after Tuesday’s ceasefire with Israel, with Israel, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is increasingly finding himself irrelevant on issues concerning the Gaza Strip. By all accounts, he is the biggest loser from the recent developments in the Strip.
