“Last week, Israeli media reported of rioting Haredim onboard an El Al plane. The true story turned out to be very different, and deeply revealing”

The Flight 002 Election
by Liel Leibovitz
November 21, 2018

Last Thursday, as New York was struggling with the obstacles presented by 5 mighty inches of snow, El Al Flight 002 to Tel Aviv, scheduled to depart at 6:30 p.m., was delayed. It finally took off at 11:45 p.m., which, ordinarily, is hardly the stuff of front page news…The first accounts of Flight 002, appearing in the Israeli press on Saturday, were grim. The snowstorm, in this version of events, caused an inevitable delay, and when the Haredi passengers on board learned that the flight would arrive in Israel only an hour or so before Shabbat, they began to riot. READ MORE

“Saudi Arabia is both a longstanding U.S. partner and a longstanding human rights violator, but for some reason this particular Saudi atrocity is being judged as far more egregious than, say, dozens of public beheadings this year”

The Laughable Hypocrisy of the Echo Chamber

Trump’s critics on Khashoggi—mainly Obama alums and the media class (but I repeat myself)—profess to be scandalized the administration is letting Saudi Arabia off with a wrist slap for the gruesome murder of a regime critic in Turkey…These same people just finished eight years promoting the following policies regarding the world’s leading dictatorships and sponsors of terrorism…giving Iran a green light to slaughter democracy protesters; refusing to intervene in Syria while half a million people were killed by Hezbollah, Iran, and Russia…egging on the Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt; coddling a Palestinian Authority that pays salaries to terrorists; and promoting the Iran nuclear deal. “Columbia University center’s experts are rivaled only by the faculty of Birzeit University for their anti-Israel advocacy”

THE TOWER
Columbia University’s Center for Palestine Studies: Ramallah on the Hudson
by A. J. Caschetta
November 19, 2018

The Trump administration may have closed the PLO’s Mission in Washington, D.C., but its Morningside Heights Mission is open for business. I refer to Columbia University’s Center for Palestine Studies (CPS), an Ivy League clearinghouse for PLO propaganda and the demonization of Israel. Call it the PLO’s American academic wing. When the CPS opened more than eight years ago, founding co-director Rashid Khalidi promised that it would avoid doing “anything that’s directly related to any political activism.” This is laughable. What Khalidi meant is that the CSP would not participate in anti-Israel activism, but this is a lie. READ MORE

“Those wily Zionists, traveling 2,500 years back in time to plant these little stone weights with Hebrew inscriptions at the base of some temple in Jerusalem”

JERUSALEM POST
‘Half-shekel’ from First Temple era unearthed near City of David
by Sara Rubenstein
November 21, 2018

A rare and unusual find was unearthed north of the City of David in Jerusalem – a tiny stone “half-shekel” weight that dates back to the First Temple period. According to the City of David Foundation, the weight was found during the sifting of soil in the Emek Tzurim National Park under the auspices of the foundation and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. It was found in soil originating from the foot of Robinson’s Arch at the Western Wall, just north of the City of David. The weight, which has the word “beka” written on it in ancient Hebrew script, has been known to be used as a half-shekel donation that each person from the age of 20 years was required to bring as a census and for the maintenance of the Holy Temple. READ MORE

“As an American newly arrived in Israel, I am appalled that the international and American press willingness to ignore this large-scale terror attack against the Jewish state”

DAILY CALLER
‪Mainstream Media Continues To Ignore Violence Against Jews‬
by Bradley Martin
November 21, 2018

American and European media outlets in recent days can’t produce enough stories about the Netanyahu government possibly falling apart after agreeing to a ceasefire with the terrorist organization Hamas. What the mainstream media has conveniently forgotten to mention is what led the administration to this dilemma. After an intelligence-gathering mission by the Israel Defense Forces went awry, resulting in the killing of an Israeli special-forces soldier, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israeli civilians, firing nearly five hundred rockets on communities in southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. Israel’s patience in Gaza will pay off ‎
by Dr Reuven Berko

Israeli politics, however, would confuse anyone. If Israel strikes ‎Gaza, the various “peace-lovers” among us complain that the ‎government is all too eager to “sacrifice our soldiers” in another ‎‎”reckless round of futile bloodshed,” and they decry the lack of ‎‎”proportionality” and the “foolish” refusal to negotiate with the ‎‎”moderates” on the Palestinian side. ‎ If Israel avoids mounting a strike in Gaza over security ‎considerations that the military and other security services deem ‎valid, the critics lambaste the government’s weakness, hesitation ‎and “cowardly policy.”…Israel’s anxiety about its international image allows Hamas to make ‎brazen statements and extortionist demands.  ‎READ MORE

“Bringing together two diverse communities and highlighting strong Israel-India relations, over 400 people gather in Chicago to simultaneously honor Diwali and Hanukkah”

Two holidays, one theme: Hindus, Jews celebrate joint festival of lights
by Ronit Bezalel
November 20, 2018

A joint Hindu-Jewish Festival of Lights drew over 400 people to a suburban Chicago synagogue on Sunday, as together they honored the similarly-themed holidays of Hanukkah and Diwali. The evening, which featured speakers, candle lighting, food from both cultures, dance lessons, and the world’s only Indian-Jewish standup comedian, was hosted by Temple Beth-El in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Illinois. The Chicago event has inspired similar gatherings nationwide — from a December 8 celebration in San Francisco, to events being planned in New York, Atlanta and Florida. “Accusing Jews of dual loyalty is one of the oldest and most pernicious #antisemitic tropes,” the #AJC wrote. “No surprise to see it coming from #LindaSarsour”

Linda Sarsour under fire for suggesting Jewish progressives have divided loyalties
November 18, 2018

Women’s March leader Linda Sarsour appeared to criticize American Jewish liberals of putting their support for Israel ahead of their commitment to democracy. Her comments, which some felt echoed charges that Jews have divided loyalties, appeared in a Facebook post calling for support for Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar, who said this week that she supports boycotting Israel. Sarsour, a Palestinian-American activist for civil rights, wrote in the post Thursday that Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, is “being attacked for saying that she supports BDS (Boycott Divestment Sanctions) and the right for people to engage in constitutionally protected freedoms. “How the Pittsburgh massacre brought out the worst in some liberal Jews”

COMMENTARY
The Know-Nothing Excommunicators
by Seth Mandel
November 2018

Perhaps we should call it “Spinoza’s Revenge.” In 1656, Amsterdam’s Jewish leaders pronounced a cherem—excommunication—on Baruch Spinoza, the Jewish philosopher who contested the Torah’s divine provenance. Spinoza became the founding father of secular Jewry on the eve of the Enlightenment. In a twist, the drive to excommunicate dissenters is now led by many who would consider themselves Spinoza’s heirs. From the pens and pulpits of the American Jewish left come the writs of cherem for those with unacceptable political opinions. This wave of McCarthyism didn’t start with the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre, but that is where we shall begin. READ MORE

Michael Oren: “Airbnb’s policy is the very definition of antiSemitism. No one should use its services”

JEWISH PRESS
Deputy Minister Michael Oren Calls for Boycott Against Airbnb
by Hana Levi Julian
November 19, 2018

Kulanu Knesset member and Deputy Minister Michael Oren has called for a general boycott of the global Airbnb vacation rental listing service, based in San Francisco. Oren said on Monday that no one should use the low-cost service, because its policy is “the very definition of anti-Semitism.” The call came in response to a blacklist issued by the business, which has removed all Jewish apartments in Judea and Samaria from its listings — “not Palestinian apartments, not apartments in Turkish occupied Cyprus, in Morrocan occupied Sahara, not in Tibet or the Crimea,” Oren pointed out…READ MORE

JNS Airbnb to remove its rental listings in Judea and Samaria The online marketplace  and hospitality service Airbnb announced on Monday that it will no longer permit listings in Judea and Samaria due to what it alleges as “Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank that are at the core of the dispute between Israelis and Palestinians,” according to a company statement.

DAILY WIRE Ben Shapiro:AirBNB Goes Anti-Semitic, Targets Jewish Businesses In Judea, Samaria This is the sheerest form of corporate anti-Semitism in recent memory. Not only did AirBNB specifically target “Israeli settlements,” according to Professor Eugene Kontorovich of George Mason Law, they’ve announced that they will only disallow listings in Israeli settlements when those listings are owned by Jews. In other words, if a Jew owns an apartment in East Jerusalem, that won’t be allowed for listing; if an Arab owns an apartment in the same neighborhood, it’s fine for listing.
