‘It’s a very bad day for America’

NEW YORK POST
Alleged gunman’s anti-Semitic views revealed in social media posts
by Eileen AJ Connelly
October 27, 2018

The man authorities believe killed 11 people inside a Pittsburgh synagogue had a history of posting racist, anti-immigrant, and anti-Semitic rants — and broadcast his violent intentions Saturday shortly before entering the house of worship with guns blazing. In a post on the Twitter-like social media platform called Gab, Robert Bowers ranted about the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, a non-profit that helps resettle immigrants and refugees…He was equally critical of President Donald Trump, who he said was “a globalist, not a nationalist,” and was controlled by Jews…“For the record I did not vote for him, nor have I owned, worn or even touched a MAGA hat.” READ MORE

CHICAGO TRIBUNE Chicago Jewish community reacts to Saturday’s fatal shooting at Pittsburgh synagogue: ‘It’s a very bad day for America’ Though they live more than 450 miles away from the Pittsburgh synagogue where 11 were fatally shot and six others wounded Saturday, some members of Chicago’s Jewish community, galvanized by the tragedy, said they will be working with law enforcement to further fortify area synagogues. “It’s not a good day,” said Steven Nasatir, president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. “It’s a very bad day for America.”

HEAVY Robert Bowers: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know Robert Bowers yelled “all Jews must die” as he entered the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Pittsburgh, where he fatally shot multiple people in an anti-Semitic massacre Saturday morning, witnesses say. The horror unfolded in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of the city. There were close to 100 people inside of the synagogue at the time of the attack. Bowers, a 46-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, was arrested at the scene.

StandWithUs Horrified at the Worst Attack Against Jews in U.S. History The anti-Semitism that struck Pittsburgh today isn’t a Jewish problem. Anti-Semitism is everyone’s problem. The war that starts against the Jews doesn’t end with the Jews.  Anti-Semitic incidents have increased almost 100% in 2017 and have spiked even higher the past few weeks.  Anti-Semitic acts that take place on campuses or on the internet should be stopped in their tracks and should be everyone’s concern.

by Reuters and Algemeiner Staff
October 27, 2018

Palestinian terrorist group Islamic Jihad said on Saturday that it would halt attacks into Israel from the Gaza Strip after firing the heaviest rocket salvos across the border since August. One of the largest armed groups operating in Gaza, Islamic Jihad said it fired the rockets in retaliation for Israel’s killing of four Palestinian rioters on Friday. Israel in response struck dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday. A spokesman for the militants said an Egyptian-mediated truce had been reached. READ MORE

European Court of Human Rights, the de facto highest court in the EU : Criticism of Islam will not be tolerated.

European Court: Woman’s Defamation of Muhammad Doesn’t Count as Free Expression
by Joe Setyon
October 25, 2018

An Austrian woman accused of defaming the Prophet Muhammad is not protected by the right to freedom of expression, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled today. Her statements represent “an abusive attack on the Prophet of Islam which could stir up prejudice and threaten religious peace,” the court declared. The woman, identified only as E.S., led what she billed as informational seminars on Islam back in 2009. At one of those seminars, she called Muhammad a pedophile because of his marriage to a girl named Aisha, who was just 6 years old at the time. READ MORE

WASHINGTON POST European court rejects Austrian’s case over prophet slur The European Court of Human Rights says an Austrian woman’s conviction for calling the prophet of Islam a pedophile didn’t breach her freedom of speech.

AMERICAN THINKER In Europe, feelings of Muslims now officially trump freedom of speech According to the European Court of Human Rights, the feelings of Muslims are more important than liberty.  A critique of the Religion of Peace can be deemed a threat to “religious peace.”

Aayan Hirsi Ali Tweet This is the most corrupt, disgusting and barbaric ruling of our time! It sets back all the great work Muslims and non-Muslim minorities have done to advance Free Speech. No wonder citizens in Europe have lost faith in institutions like this one!

CNN: “In an audio recording of Marc Lamont Hill’s remarks there, he can be heard using his anti-Israel propaganda to advocate for violence”

CAMERA BLOG
Marc Lamont Hill Moves from Justifying Terrorism to Promoting it
by Ricki Hollander
October 22, 2018

Several months ago, CAMERA wrote about the self-promoting CNN commentator and Temple University professor Marc Lamont Hill, pointing out his bigoted anti-Israel disinformation campaign and defense of Palestinian terrorists. The Investigative Project on Terrorism provides new evidence that Lamont Hill has progressed from being a radical, anti-Israel propagandist and justifier of terrorism to one who directly promotes Palestinian violence and terrorism against Israelis. Lamont Hill was one of the advertised speakers at a conference by a leading BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) group that was held on September 28-30, 2018. . READ MORE

“Iran was closer to developing nuclear weapons than previously thought, according to a think tank report issued late Tuesday”

JERUSALEM POST
Think Tank: Iran was closer to nukes than we thought
by Yonah Jeremy Bob
October 24, 2018

A report by the Institute for Science and International Security said that combining new information produced by the Mossad during its January raid on a Tehran warehouse along with satellite imagery “conclusively shows that the Parchin site did house high explosive chambers capable for use in nuclear weapons research and development.” While the focus of the report is Iran’s activities up until 2003, the premise of the report and of the documents which the Mossad appropriated from a site in Tehran (which had not been disclosed to the IAEA) is that the tests performed mean Iran could be capable of building a weapon faster than previously thought. Does Iran lurk behind Netanyahu’s historic visit to Oman?
by Staff
October 26, 2018

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a surprise visit to Oman on Friday, boosting his claim to be leading Israel into a new era in ties with Arab nations and prompting speculation about what lay behind the rare public interaction between Israel and a Gulf state with which it no longer has diplomatic relations. There were few concrete details on his talks with Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said beyond a joint statement saying the two sides “discussed ways to advance the Middle East peace process and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.” READ MORE

REUTERS Oman says time to accept Israel in region, offers help for peace Oman described Israel as an accepted Middle East state on Saturday, a day after hosting a surprise visit by its prime minister that Washington said could help regional peace efforts. Oman is offering ideas to help Israel and the Palestinians to come together but is not acting as mediator, Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the sultanate’s minister responsible for foreign affairs, told a security summit in Bahrain. “Israel is a state present in the region, and we all understand this,” bin Alawi said.

THE GLOBALIST
The Khashoggi Murder and Erdogan’s Naked Truth
by Aykan Erdemir
October 25, 2018

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s much-anticipated speech before his party group on October 23 was the weeks-long culmination of “must-see TV.” After Turkish officials had drip-fed both real and fabricated leaks to the media and deliberately created a confused and emotionally charged atmosphere, Erdogan had promised to reveal to the world the “naked truth” behind the grisly murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Erdogan’s failure to deliver the promised details prompted The Washington Post to argue that Erdogan appeared “less interested in revealing what really happened to the Saudi journalist than in leveraging the murder for political gain.” READ MORE

WASHINGTON TIMES Clifford May: Killing Khashoggi Eighteen Saudis have now been arrested and five top officials fired in connection with the killing. Bookies will give odds that they are being set up to fall on their swords for MbS. But it’s also possible to imagine that they were involved in an abduction that went sideways, and was followed by a clumsy cover-up that has led to a diplomatic crisis.

‘Creepy Line’ Film Examines Facebook, Google’s Influence; Director Talks ‘Scary’ Way They Use Censorship
by Michael Gryboski
October 3, 2018

A new documentary examines the way in which sites like Google and Facebook can influence people’s thoughts through their control of private information. Titled “The Creepy Line,” the film takes its name from a remark former Google CEO Eric Schmidt made years ago about concerns some had regarding his company’s handling of private information. “There’s what I call the ‘creepy line,’ and the Google policy about a lot of these things is to get right up to the creepy line but not cross it,” Schmidt said at the time. The real rift: how the left is driving liberal Jews away from Israel
by Bruce Portnoy
October 20, 2018

…Let’s be clear: There is a rift, but it isn’t between Israel and American Jewry. Fights over religious coercion and pluralism have been going on for decades, making these latest eruptions nothing new in Israel. What has changed is the position of Zionism on the political left in America. Suddenly being a liberal and a Zionist or a progressive and a Zionist in America isn’t so comfortable. What has emerged, then, is the real rift — between liberal Jews and the American left. And the greatest danger to Israel and to American Jewry is the almost total silence to reverse it. READ MORE
