New Yorker article “full of mistakes, lies, and obfuscations — but mostly, an effort to delegitimize the Jewish presence in Hebron by casting it in a dark light”

DAILY WIRE
The New Yorker Promotes Far-Left, Radical Islamist Team-Up Against Israel
by Yishai Fleisher
January 28, 2019

Recently, The New Yorker printed a hit-piece against the Jews living in the heart of Judea entitled, “A Guided Tour of Hebron, from Two Sides of the Occupation.”…Not surprisingly, the Jewish story of Hebron is also missing in The New Yorker’s narrative. Jews have been living in Hebron for 3,200 years, almost without interruption, sometimes as an ethnic majority, and other times as an ethnic minority. That ended in a horrific act of ethnic cleansing, when an Islamist riot ripped through Hebron in 1929 murdering 67 Jewish men, women, and children, and which led to the British ousting of Hebron’s Jews. In the 1967 Six Day War, Israel took control of Hebron, and Jews began to repatriate the city. READ MORE

IM TIRZU Victory! EAPPI Flees Hebron After months during which Im Tirtzu has been continuously filming in Hebron to expose and disrupt the anti-Israel activities of EAPPI – the “Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel” run by the World Council of Churches – they announced this morning that they are leaving Hebron! Prior to our efforts of ‘filming the filmers’ and ‘shaming the shamers’ who work against Israel, EAPPI members roamed Hebron and harassed the Jewish residents and IDF soldiers with impunity.

by Ariel Kahana
January 27, 2019

U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty in the Golan Heights got a significant boost over the weekend after a senior Democrat joined prominent Republicans in this effort. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 Democrat in the chamber, told Jewish Insider over the weekend that “Israel should maintain control of the Golan Heights.”…In December a draft resolution calling on the U.S. government to recognize Israeli sovereignty on the Golan Heights was unveiled in the Senate. The draft resolution was introduced by pro-Israel Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton…Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) has also expressed support for recognition. READ MORE

“We were officially kicked off of Birthright”

ELDER OF ZIYON
How immoral do you have to be to lie about Birthright?
January 29, 2019

In the Jewish Journal/Sun Sentinel of Florida, Rabbi Bruce Warshal writes a quite false op-ed about Birthright…”Two hours later, I stood on a street corner in Tel Aviv with two other participants, watching our trip’s bus drive away without us; we were officially kicked off of Birthright.”…This is an outrageous mischaracterization of what happened, of course.  Emily Bloch and her friends had pre-planned to hijack the conversation. They are members of IfNotNow, an organization that is explicitly against Birthright’s very existence as a program to instill pride in Jewish youth. In reality, Birthright guides deal honestly and forthrightly with questions about Arabs, although from an Israeli perspective. READ MORE

“When he asked whether any of the Jews fought back, the Nazi’s wife, Stella — an accomplice — jumped in: “They were like lambs”

P.I.-turned Nazi hunter blames passive Jewish leaders for the 99.9% who got away
by Dave Gordon
January 27, 2019

…Presenting himself as a young, clean-cut, strapping man in suit and tie, [Steven] Rambam gathered these stories throughout the 1990s, clipboard and tape recorder in hand. Told at length to the ostensible foreign university scholar, they came from Nazi war criminals who had been living comfortable lives on foreign soil for several decades, unashamed to use their real names, unashamed to speak openly about what they did. The first person Rambam interviewed and recorded was a police chief from Lithuania, Antanas Kenstavicius, who, with other men, murdered 5,000 Jews in six days, including children, in the town of Ignalina. JTA Book commissioned by Hitler with data for Jews in US and Canada on display A book commissioned by Adolf Hitler and which he would have used to continue the Final Solution in the United States and Canada is on display in Ottawa by its new Canadian owners as part of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Titled: “Statistics., Media, and Organizations of Jewry in the United States and Canada,” the 137-page German-language volume compiled in 1944 was part of Hitler’s personal library, and contained city-by-city statistical details about Jewish communities in the U.S. and Canada. The book presents a harrowing view of what might have happened if the Nazis had won.

TIMES OF ISRAEL Remembering the Holocaust, Poland blots out any mention of its complicity The Polish government marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday, but completely ignored the complicity of Poles who actively participated in crimes against Jews during World War II. Rather, Warsaw seemed to stress Polish suffering and Polish efforts to rescue Jews, leading an Israeli Holocaust historian [Havi Dreifuss] to charge that Poland is trying to make the Nazi genocide look like a “Polish rescue project.”

“Muslim Awareness event at the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom will include a vegetarian dinner made up of dishes from Arab and Jewish communities”

MONTREAL GAZETTE
Breaking bread: Synagogue to host Shabbat dinner with Muslim neighbours
by Susan Schwartz
January 22, 2019

As Muslim Awareness Week gets under way Jan. 25 and the second anniversary of the mosque shooting in Quebec City that killed six worshippers and injured 19 is marked Jan. 29, the Westmount synagogue is holding a Muslim Awareness Shabbat. It will begin with a vegetarian dinner made up of dishes from Arab and Jewish communities, to be prepared by members of both communities and served family style. The Shabbat service following dinner will feature two speakers from Montreal’s Muslim community. “The whole idea of Muslim Awareness Week is to go out and build bridges,” said Ehab Lotayef, chairman of the week’s coordinating committee. “Diversity” should include Muslimas who rebel against the hijab

Ten Truths About Hijab
by Danusha Goska
January 25, 2019

….In January, 2019, after Ilhan Omar was sworn in as a new congresswoman, my liberal Facebook friends celebrated her and Rashida Tlaib. They made three false claims: “First refugee elected to Congress! First Palestinian! We celebrate diversity!” No, Omar was not the first refugee elected to Congress. Jewish refugees, and refugees from Communism preceded her. No, Tlaib was not the first Palestinian. Justin Amash, a male, Christian Republican, was. Newly sworn-in Donna Shalala, like Tlaib, is an Arab. She is a Catholic who supports Israel. None of the memes celebrating Tlaib celebrated Shalala or Amash. READ MORE

So where are the articles bemoaning “The incredible, thuggish stupidity of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez”?

WASHINGTON POST
If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were a conservative
by Marc A. Thiessen
January 24, 2019

If Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) were a conservative, all anyone would be talking about is how uninformed she is. She would be facing trick questions from reporters designed to expose her lack of knowledge, and brutal sketches on “Saturday Night Live” mocking her intelligence and fitness for office. Instead, SNL fawns over her, while CBS’s “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert — far from making jokes at her expense – eats ice cream with her and asks how many “f—s” she gives about her critics. Venezuela’s Jews describe chaos, uncertain future
by Shimon Yaish
January 25, 2019

Juan Guaidó has been sworn in as temporary president of Venezuela—two weeks after Nicolás Maduro, the president elected in a disputed vote last year took the oath of office—and Venezuela is in chaos. Venezuela is home to some 5,000 Jews. About 20,000 Jewish Venezuelans have left the country in the past decade because of economic conditions and in particular because of how the Jewish community has been treated since 2009…The prejudice peaked when then-President Hugo Chávez—known for his pro-Palestinian stance—demanded that the Israeli ambassador leave over the “Holocaust that Israel was perpetrating in Gaza,” as Chávez put it. “Clinton, Bush, and Obama were all “Zoomed in” on Israel and the Palestinians, while not understanding the broader context. Although we haven’t heard Trump’s proposal yet, it will likely have the same defect”

ELDER OF ZIYON
Matti Friedman’s Lens and Sisyphean Mud
by Vic Rosenthal
January 24, 2019

…To really understand the conflicts surrounding Israel since its coming into being, one needs to zoom out even further than [Matti] Friedman does. One needs to take into account that not only Arabs and Muslims are viscerally opposed to the concept of Jewish sovereignty, many Europeans and even some circles in America are too. Although they might not go as far as to compare Israel to a malignant tumor, they are quite comfortable saying that the creation of Israel was a mistake. Friedman’s lens must be widened to include not just the greater Middle East, but much of the Western world. READ MORE

NEW YORK TIMES There Is No ‘Israeli-Palestinian Conflict’ There isn’t an Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the way that many outsiders seem to think, and this perception gap is worth spelling out. It has nothing to do with being right-wing or left-wing in the American sense. To borrow a term from the world of photography, the problem is one of zoom. Simply put, outsiders are zoomed in, and people here in Israel are zoomed out. Understanding this will make events here easier to grasp.

“Ali Akbar Salehi says Iran’s supreme leader was convinced West would renege on 2015 pact, so replacement tubes for nuclear reactor were secretly purchased”

TIMES OF ISRAEL
Iran’s nuclear chief: We bought spares for nuke equipment we agreed to destroy
by Stuart Winer
January 24, 2019

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, has detailed how Iran quietly purchased replacement parts for its Arak nuclear reactor while it was conducting negotiations for an international agreement under which it knew it would be required to destroy the original components. In an interview broadcast on Iran’s Channel 4 TV on January 22, Salehi recalled that during talks for the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the 2015 deal that lifted sanctions on Iran in return for it dismantling the weapons-capable parts of its nuclear program, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned his country’s negotiators that he expected Western parties to renege on the agreement.
