Foreign Hypocrisy and Israel’s Borders

…Israel has also insisted that the potentially new Arab entity must be demilitarized without a standing army. Several dozen countries, including affluent Iceland, lack a standing military but are nevertheless defined as countries…Numerous countries, including America, Britain, France and Turkey, maintain overall overseas military bases as part of their national security. These bases are often located thousands of miles from their capitals. It would be hypocritical to deny the Jewish state the right to maintain proper security arrangements on its doorstep. READ MORE

Detroit Jewish community has pre-ordered Israeli technology to address mass-shootings

JERUSALEM POST
The Israeli start-up aiming to prevent the next Pittsburgh massacre
by Eytan Halon
November 8, 2018

Founded in 2016, Tel Aviv-based start-up Gabriel aims to provide a smart, affordable and easy-to-use solution for mass shootings aimed at so-called soft targets and communal spaces, including in schools, community centers, synagogues and churches. Gabriel CEO Yoni Sherizen spent 15 years working in the Jewish community before shifting his focus to business. Motivated by the June 2016 mass shooting at Tel Aviv’s Sarona Market and, the murder of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida days later, Sherizen sought to develop a technological platform to change the outcome of similar events. “Hamas and Fatah have strongly condemned Arab countries for “rushing” to normalize relations with Israel”

GATESTONE
Palestinian Threats to Arab Normalization with Israel
by Khaled Abu Toameh
November 7, 2018

…In other words, Hamas is implying that any Arab leader who establishes relations with Israel will be seen as a traitor to the Palestinians and their cause. [Hamas leader Ismail] Haniyeh is brutally honest as to why he and Hamas oppose any form of normalization with Israel; it is because they believe there’s “no room” for Israel on the map. In their eyes, Israel has no right to exist and should be replaced with an Islamic state, where Jews would be welcome to live as a minority. Hamas’s rivals in Fatah have taken a similar stance towards the warming of relations between Israel and some Arab countries. Recent violent antisemitic acts in the US and Europe are a rude wake-up call from Jewish community’s “state of hibernation”

JERUSALEM CENTER FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS
After the Pittsburgh Synagogue Massacre, It’s Time to Adopt an International Convention on the Crime of Anti-Semitism
by Amb. Alan Baker
November 6, 2018

Who can blame the international community at large for sidelining the phenomenon of anti-Semitism, when the Jewish world, whether out of a naïve sense of political correctness or merely resignation, seems to have accepted it as a permanent and indelible phenomenon, to be tolerated and suffered rather than to be dealt with and combatted? The recent vile events that occurred at the end of October, 2018 are nothing new. Anti-Semitism has existed for thousands of years, reappearing in many and varied forms, adapting itself to whatever circumstances exist at any given time and utilizing the available cultural, social, and technological means to propagate itself among the public. “Progressives believe that progress is inevitable and that history has a direction and purpose…but such theories have no basis in history or reality”

WASHINGTON TIMES
The advance of illiberal world disorder
by Clifford D. May
November 6, 2018

You don’t know much about history if you don’t know this: “Until 1945 the story of humankind going back thousands of years was a long tale of war, tyranny, and poverty. Moments of peace were fleeting, democracy so rare as to seem almost accidental, and prosperity the luxury of the powerful few.” That quote is from the opening chapter of Robert Kagan’s new book: “The Jungle Grows Back: America and Our Imperiled World.” A few words about Mr. Kagan: He is a senior fellow at the liberal Brookings Institution, he writes a column for the liberal Washington Post, and the liberal New York Times recently called him a “conservative American thinker.” READ MORE

US Jewish Political Groups, Both Democratic and Republican, Cheer Midterm Elections Results
by Barney Breen-Portnoy
November 7, 2018

Two American Jewish political groups on opposing sides of the spectrum have both spun the results of Tuesday’s midterm elections — in which the Democrats won control of the House of Representatives for the first time in eight years and the Republicans maintained the Senate majority they have held since 2014 — in a favorable light…“Now it is time for Republicans and Democrats to come together to continue to move our country forward and pursue thoughtful legislation to grow our economy, reform health care, secure our borders, and strengthen the US-Israel alliance,” [RJC Chairman Norm] Coleman went on to say. Democrat Rashida Tlaib Dances with Palestinian Flag at Victory Party
by Joel B. Pollak
November 7, 2018

Democrat Rashida Tlaib danced wearing the Palestinian flag at a victory party in Tuesday evening, after she won a largely uncontested race for the open seat in Michigan’s heavily Democratic 13th congressional district. Tlaib is one of two Muslim women elected to Congress on Tuesday, along with Ilhan Omar, who replaced outgoing Rep. Keith Ellison in Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. Ellison was the first Muslim elected to Congress. Both Tlaib and Omar have extreme anti-Israel views. Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress. READ MORE

JEWISH JOURNAL
L.A. City Council Approves Resolution Calling on UCLA to Cancel SJP Event
by Aaron Bandler
November 6, 2018

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 6 in favor of a resolution calling on UCLA to cancel the upcoming National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) conference. According to a source, city councilman Paul Koretz introduced the resolution, which stated the concern that the conference “will promote anti-Semitism.” “SJP members have posted violent anti-Semitic rhetoric on social media, ranging from calling for the annihilation of the Jewish people, to the admiration of Adolf Hitler and hateful calls to ‘kill Jews’ ‘kill all Zionists’ and ‘let’s stuff some Jews in the oven,’” the resolution states. The proposed Hamas-Israel truce: “As for Egypt, Qatar, and the UN, they are acting strictly out of concern for their own and Hamas’s interests”

GATESTONE INSTITUTE
The Middle East “Truce”: Why Hamas Cannot Be Trusted
by Bassam Tawil
November 5, 2018

Egypt wants a truce between Hamas and Israel because it wants quiet along its shared border with the Gaza Strip. Qatar wants the truce because this wealthy Arab emirate wants to bolster the standing of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in the Arab and Islamic world. The UN, for its part, wants to prove to the world that it still relevant, influential and capable of contributing to stability, security and peace. Not one of the three parties is trying to achieve a truce in the Gaza Strip out of love for Israel or a genuine concern for anyone’s security. READ MORE

Antisemites and AntiIsrael activists, you’ll be right at home at the 2019 WomensMarch

NEW YORK POST
Don’t join this year’s Women’s March unless you’re good with anti-Semitism
by Karol Markowicz
November 4, 2018

With the Pittsburgh shooting so fresh and anti-Semitism (alas) so necessary a topic, it’s time for a reckoning with the Women’s March. This January, women who say they stand with Jews need to boycott the Women’s March…Linda Sarsour is one of the leaders….But in September, Sarsour said American Muslims shouldn’t “humanize” Israelis. There was no overwhelming response from the left to remind her that Israelis are, actually, human.  American Jews who ignore this hatred are fooling themselves. Anti-Semitism is specifically about dehumanizing Jews until their murder makes sense. READ MORE
