CAMERA: New York Times actually thought Palestinian Authority payments to families of terrorists was a “figment of right wing imagination”

COMMENTARY
The ‘Times’ and Israel: A Review of 2018
by Gilead Ini
February 2019

In 2018, the newspaper demonstrated time and again that it was unwilling to offer frank coverage of news that highlighted the Palestinian role in exacerbating the conflict. In one emblematic example, Times journalist Nellie Bowles described the Palestinian Authority’s payments to families of imprisoned terrorists as a figment of the right-wing imagination. Facebook, she lamented, has been “flooded with far-right conspiracy programming like ‘Palestinians Pay $400 million Pensions for Terrorist Families.’” In fact, the Palestinian government had been perfectly open about its payments. The newspaper, at least in this case, made amends after CAMERA contacted editors. “That is not a conspiracy theory,” a correction noted. READ MORE

Proposed US Senate and Congress bills: “It is in the United States national security interest to ensure that Israel retains control of the Golan Heights”

Resolutions introduced in House, Senate recognizing Israeli sovereignty over Golan
February 27, 2019

U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.) introduced companion resolutions on Tuesday urging the United States to officially recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The bill emphasizes the strategic importance of Israeli control over the area, which the Jewish state captured in the 1967 Six-Day War, in protecting civilians from threats such as from Iran in Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel annexed the region in 1981, a move that has not been recognized by the international community. It also states that “it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of a peace agreement between Israel and Syria will be an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights.” READ MORE

“Anti-Semitism at Duke University is not a recent phenomenon, but it has spiked over the past few months”

DAILY WIRE
Duke University Is Not A Safe Space For Jews
by Sloan Rachmuth
February 28, 2019

It should come as no surprise that Duke University is making headlines this time of year. The highly prestigious private school is a college basketball powerhouse that tends to dominate sports pages as March Madness approaches. But this year, the stories aren’t just related to athletics. Duke has been steeped in anti-Semitism that is being green-lighted by the student newspaper and leftist student groups. The Duke campus has been the target of numerous anti-Semitic incidents in just the past few months, including destruction of Jewish property, genocidal expression, demonizing Jews and delegitimizing the Jewish state’s right to exist, according to the anti-Semitism watchdog group AMCHA Initiative. LEGAL INSURRECTION Cornell President to Students for Justice in Palestine: “I must reject your call for BDS-related divestment Dear Cornell Students for Justice in Palestine…”Given that your letter shares your broader perspective on the BDS movement, I must also take this opportunity to share mine, which is a strong opposition to BDS. BDS unfairly singles out one country in the world for sanction when there are many countries around the world whose governments’ policies may be viewed as controversial. Moreover, it places all of the responsibility for an extraordinarily complex geopolitical situation on just one country and frequently conflates the policies of the Israeli government with the very right of Israel to exist as a nation, which I find particularly troublesome.”

Kamala Harris: “She wears her careerism too transparently and her ideological flexibility will seem calculating and disingenuous rather than wise”

SPECTATOR
If you miss Hillary Clinton, you’re going to love Kamala Harris
by Christopher Buskirk
February 28, 2019

…On the flipside, when questioned about the killing of Kate Steinle by an illegal immigrant in San Francisco, she took the opportunity to praise sanctuary laws. And though a longtime foe of prostitution as a prosecutor, Harris reversed her position in preparation for her presidential run because a large part of the liberal base considers what they call ‘sex work as a dignified, even empowering, career choice for women’. The point is that real liberals realize that Harris is an opportunist. Yet, there are many Democrats who like Harris because they think that with her they get the only thing better than Barack Obama, which is the female version of Barack Obama. READ MORE

Dershowitz: “A decision to indict PM Netanyahu on corruption charges in Case 2,000 would “endanger democracy and freedom of the press” urges Israeli AG to “consider the dangerous implications”

Dershowitz: Indicting PM would open Pandora’s box
by Yehuda Shlezinger and Israel Hayom Staff
February 27, 2019

A decision to indict Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges in Case 2,000 would “endanger democracy and freedom of the press,” Professor Alan Dershowitz wrote in an open letter to Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit on Tuesday. Dershowitz, one of the most prominent Jewish lawyers in the United States and in the world, posted the letter on his Twitter page. “Such charges would open up a Pandora’s box out of which would flow a parade of horribles: Every government official – legislators, judges, prosecutors, police offices, administrators – who sought positive coverage in the media, and then did anything that helped the media, would have to be investigated,” Dershowitz wrote. Argentina’s chief rabbi and wife attacked in home invasion: “They broke nine of his ribs, affecting a lung, and left him disfigured”

BUENOS AIRES TIMES
Argentina’s chief rabbi Gabriel Davidovich injured in attack at home
February 26, 2019

Argentina’s chief rabbi was beaten and seriously injured by assailants who broke into his home, in an attack later condemned by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as part of an anti-Semitic wave of incidents across the world. It comes just days after tombs at a Jewish cemetery were vandalised in San Luis province. Jorge Knoblovits, the president of Delegación de Asociaciones Israelitas Argentinas (DAIA) Jewish grouping, said seven men were involved in the assault  on Gabriel Davidovich, 56, which took place Monday in the Once neighbourhood. Netanyahu said Davidovich and his wife were “viciously assaulted.” READ MORE

“Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the “moderate” face of the Islamic regime who was instrumental in forging the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, resigned unexpectedly Monday night”

Iranian Foreign Minister Tenders Surprise Resignation; Nuke Deal Hangs In Balance
by Charles Bybelezer
February 26, 2019

…No immediate reason was provided for the [resignation]—which needs to be accepted by President Hassan Rouhani—thereby fueling speculation of internal fighting in Tehran possibly over whether to nix the atomic accord and jump-start nuclear-related activities. The move comes on the backdrop of an Israeli intelligence assessment that Iran is “making preparations” for a dash to the bomb and has renewed production of centrifuges on an “industrial” scale while taking steps to accelerate uranium enrichment.  In response to the news, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo referred to Zarif and Rouhani as “front men for a corrupt religious mafia…” READ MORE

BLOOMBERG Eli Lake: Iran’s Charmer-in-Chief Resigns Zarif’s resignation means very little for Iran’s relationship with the West. Indeed, it may provide Europe with a clarifying moment. This is because Zarif’s main job was to persuade his interlocutors that Iran was a normal nation-state and not a predatory rogue.

JERUSALEM POST MI-6 chief in Israel to meet with Mossad about possible Iran nuclear race British intelligence MI6’s chief Alex Younger met recently with Mossad director Yossi Cohen in Israel to coordinate intelligence efforts over concerns that Iran may be gearing up to race toward developing a nuclear weapon…The UK and the EU’s viewing of Iran’s secret nuclear files to make five nuclear weapons – shown to them after the files were obtained by a Mossad operation in January 2018 which Cohen directly presided over – is believed to have set off red flags.

IDF soldiers’ accounts of Hamas war crimes to be submitted to ICC
by Hanan Greenwood, Daniel Siryoti and Nikki Guttman
February 21, 2019

Thirty-three testimonies of IDF combat soldiers were set to be submitted to the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Thursday as proof that Hamas terrorists carry out war crimes and use Palestinian civilians as human shields. For months, members of the My Truth organization have collected testimonies from Israeli combat soldiers that paint a shocking picture of Hamas’ activities in the Gaza Strip spanning from 2014 – the year when the Palestinian Authority became a party to the ICC’s Rome Statute treaty – to 2018, when thousands of Gazans took part in the violent Hamas-organized “marches of return” on the border with Israel. Corbyn aide “Seumas has been supporting groups that deny Israel’s right to exist for many years”

UK Newspaper Investigation Uncovers Links Between Top Corbyn Aide and Anti-Israel Terror Groups
by Benjamin Kerstein
February 24, 2019

A top aide to controversial UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has long-standing ties to anti-Israel terrorist groups and would likely be denied a security clearance as a result, a new report has revealed. Seumas Milne, Labour’s head of strategy and communications, is considered so influential that he has been referred to as “Corbyn’s brain,” and Corbyn, who is considered antisemitic by the vast majority of British Jews, reportedly relies upon him completely. According to a weekend exposé by The Mail on Sunday, Milne’s links with terrorist groups dedicated to destroying the Jewish state are decades old. READ MORE

JERUSALEM POST Outlaw Hezbollah: What took so long? Good news out of England – Parliament is expected to approve a motion to ban Hezbollah as a terrorist group. This refers to the whole of Hezbollah, its so-called “military wing” and also now its so-called “political wing.” What took so long? It is hard to believe that until now, England and the European Union only classified the “military wing” as a terrorist entity,

The Otzma Drama: “Two-State-Solutionists plan to kick Jews out of their homes in the newly minted State of Palestine, as they have done before in the Gaza Strip. Isn’t this a form of ethnic cleansing?”

The Left’s Hypocritical Rage Against ‘Jewish Power’
by Yishai Fleisher
February 21, 2019

Wednesday’s report that, at the urging of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Kahane-legacy Otzma party would be included in his coalition unleashed a furor on the center and the left both in Israel and in the U.S…But the left’s outrage at Otzma being included in the government is mystifying for another reason, too. Otzma’s opponents call out Meir Kahana’s desire to see Israel rid of Arabs. Yet the left itself calls for a Two-State Solution to the conflict, a solution which proposes to put “West Bank” Arabs behind a border wall, never to be seen again in the Jewish State. Don’t they, too, wish to separate Jews and Arabs? READ MORE

ABU YEHUDA Victor Rosenthal: AIPAC criticizes Netanyahu Binyamin Netanyahu incurred the wrath of numerous diaspora Jewish organizations last week, including AIPAC, which almost never criticizes an Israeli PM.

ZOA AIPAC, ADL, AJC Ignore Merger of Left-wing Anti-Israel Israeli-Arab Parties – But Condemn Merger of Right-wing Pro-Israel Parties It is also mystifying that these Jewish-American groups condemned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for encouraging small right-wing Israeli parties to merge, so that Israeli voters on the right are not disenfranchised (meaning votes for those groups would be wasted if they didn’t reach the threshold), while these Jewish-American groups said nothing about Palestinian Authority (PA) dictator Mahmoud Abbas brokering the merger of anti-Jewish, anti-Israel Arab parties running for the Knesset.
